China Glaze Jungle Queen Nail Lacquer
All Hail the Jungle Queen
China Glaze Jungle Queen Nail Lacquer ($3.00 to $7.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “smoky violet.” It’s a dusty, subdued plum-brown with soft violet shimmer. Dior Shadow is redder and has brighter, red-copper shimmer. MAC Festive Finery is lighter and has a cream finish. Cult Nails Enigmatic is similar but a smidgen browner with silver/white shimmer. China Glaze Below Deck is much lighter. This is very similar to Chanel Paradoxal, except Chanel seems a little grayer.
I have to admit: after reviewing several of China Glaze’s summer hues, I was worried about the formula, which was more problematic. I hoped it was a problem with neons in general, rather than the brand, and I’m so happy that it seems to be so! The fall collection is much, much better and more like what I expect from one of my favorite polish brands. Jungle Queen is opaque in two coats, and it’s not too thick or too thin–just enough thickness to be pigmented and flowing, but not so thick that it pools. I normally find that China Glaze polishes do not chip on me and wear well for a week (with minor tip wear). Their polish retails for $7, but you can easily find bottles for $3-4 at various e-tailers.

I initially passed this up but thanks to your lovely post, I am convinced yet again that I need this in my life!
Haha!
I m in love with smoky purples these days
I love smoky colors in general – I think they have more dimension! 🙂
Lovely shade, thanks for swatching. How does this compare to Chanel, Paradoxal?
This is very similar to Chanel Paradoxal, except Chanel seems a little grayer.
I was going to say that I’d love to get this as an alternative for black, but then I saw the purple coming through in the last picture. Not that that’s a bad thing, but I didn’t expect it to look like that in the light.
I could understand – it’s the shimmer, I’d say, that gives it a lighter look.
I didn’t pick this one up.. I’m relieved! It’s just not hitting me on the must have bone.
Never a bad thing, haha.
Beautiful colour. Reminds me of Essie’s Smokin’ Hot. Are they close in tone?
Smokin’ Hot is a bit grayer and has no shimmer – http://www.temptalia.com/essie-winter-2010-collection-review-photos-swatches
Hmmmm. I was like MEH, I’ll wait for Sally’s to put it on sale. Lordy! That last pic makes the polish really pop with the glitter. The glitter may be too faint in the bottle? Maybe it’s my eyes? I’ll have to really think about this one!
The shimmer is subtle, but noticeable – it’s almost more of a sheen? in a way.
Oh this is right up my alley!
Yay!
it’s so lovely!!!and it reminded me Chanel Paradoxal but i might be wrong ’cause i didn’t see this one
This is very similar to Chanel Paradoxal, except Chanel seems a little grayer.
I don’t know. Chanel came out with this color two years ago and not too long after that Revlon came out with their dupe. Seems kinda stale and lacking in ideas to come out with a dupe so long after the fact.
Has it really been that long? Time flies!
I skipped Paradoxal because of the heavy price tag, so I might fall for this one!
Wearing it right now! I just wish the shimmer was a little more obvious.
I LOVE this color–I’m really into complex purples and this is the kind of lovely, dusty purple that I am obsessed with!
I have this CG color. It is so beautiful, and I have had a few compliments on the color. I am loving the Safari Collection very much!! Thanks for all your reviews!! I love to see and read them very much!1
looks like MAC Anti-Fashion… maybe a little darker
Christine,
I know you don’t have it in your swatch gallery, but do you know how this compares to RBL Bruised or Drifter? — I would think those two would be a bit red-er, I guess I’m just trying to convince myself that I don’t need this beauty!
Both are definitely redder – closer to Drifter than Bruised, but I wouldn’t say they’re dupes!
I just picked this tonight @ Ulta, so I figured I would check your blog for swatches before I opened it. This color looks amazing, can’t wait to do a mani tommorow. This is the closest I can get to wearing all the beautiful fall colors, since I live in Florida and I would just die wearing anything more than t-shirts & capris. So the colors on my fingers & toes will do just fine 🙂
Got this colour in my top box this month. LOVE IT!
