Bobbi Brown Holiday: Crystal Eye Palette

Bobbi Brown Crystal Eye Palette ($45.00 for 0.20 oz.) is a newly released, limited edition holiday palette featuring four shades of eyeshadow:  Amethyst (deep violet), Diamond (light purple silver), Star (white silver), and Peacock (aqua green).

  • Amethyst is a deep reddened violet with soft sheen. It has a metallic finish. It had an incredibly soft, smooth texture, and it applied very opaquely.
  • Diamond is a purple-tinged silvery white with a frosted shimmer sheen. It has a shimmer wash finish. Like Amethyst, it was very smooth and packed a good amount of pigment.
  • Star is a semi-sheer silvery white–it is more white than silver. It has a sparkle finish. Though it has a glittery finish, it is still quite smooth, and I didn’t experience any fall out.
  • Peacock is a pop of aqua-green teal with flashes of green-gold shimmer-sheen. It has a metallic finish. It was pretty smooth, but a touch powdery. The pigmentation level was good but not as nice as Amethyst.

When it comes to value, it’s a wash–you get almost what you would expect based on a price/ounce comparison against full-sized, individual shades, but you do get to have four different shades for the price of about two individual shades. Bobbi Brown’s Metallic Eyeshadows go for $20.00 for 0.10 oz., Sparkle Eyeshadows for $24.00 for 0.13 oz., and Shimmer Wash Eyeshadows for $20.00 for 0.08 oz. This palette contains 0.20 oz. in total, but it’s not broken down per shade, so we’ll just assume it’s 0.05 oz. each. You’re getting $20.00 worth of Metallic Eyeshadows, $9.23 worth of Sparkle Eyeshadow, and $12.50 worth of Shimmer Wash Eyeshadow, for a total of $41.73–plus a miniaturized bristle-based brush.

I’m much more impressed by this palette than I was the Beauty Rules Palette.  The consistency of these eyeshadows is soft, smooth, and almost buttery with good pigmentation in nearly all four.  I also think these work together to create wintry cool-toned looks.  I would also like to give props to Bobbi Brown for including a real eyeshadow brush that’s usable!

RECOMMENDATION: I think it’s definitely a worthy item for your holiday wish list — especially if you like the texture and quality of Bobbi Brown’s eyeshadows but have always wanted a little more zip in the color department.

Product & Review FAQ

Where can I purchase this palette? How much is it?

Is it limited edition?

Yes.

Any dupes?

Amethyst: nothing permanent comes to mind, but I know MAC has put out variations of it -- Top Hat, Fertile, Mystical Mist; Diamond: MAC Digit; Star: MAC Forgery; Peacock: NARS Misfit (but it's a lot greener) or MAC Aquadisiac (a bit bluer, not as pigmented).

This reminds me of that Tarina Tarentino lady's space palette. I am sure I messed up her name

I love this and must have it.

This is definitely something I feel like I would get at a CCO later down the road, when I can get it for cheaper. :)

thanks christine! :) you make life so much easier

hey christine! which one would be the best MAC dupe for smashbox paradise blush for an NC 32? springsheen, peachykeen, peachtwist-or sth else altogether?

Springsheen would be the closest.

It is a very pretty palette and I do like the quality of most of the products I have by Bobbi Brown but this doesn't excite me. I have eyeshadows similar to all of these shades.

Wow this is very pretty! I think I might need to have it. :3

I LOVE Bobbi Brown palettes and this one is certainly no exception. I can't wait to see it in person - I am sure it will be (another) one that I just have to have.

I wish this was so much better! I'm actually surprised you gave it a B+ because I am NOT a fan! It's so pretty in the pan and when I swatched it, but when the makeup rep did a look on me, the teal color totally lacked the pretty golden shimmer and just looked really dull, and the other colors were less than exciting. What a bummer!

Nice palatte colors, but honestly, it really reminds me ot the Tarina Tarantino palatte that I got not too long ago at Sephora. The Starchild Odyssey palette is pretty similar overall, but has an additional purple shade, that's more mid-range in terms of saturation. And Tarina's is $39 to Bobbi's $45. I don't know about other people, but I've been pretty happy with pigementation in the TT line, so far. Yes, the packaging is pretty super cute, but this palette IMHO has the goods to back it up. I think it's pretty obvious which I'd opt for, even if I hadn't already bought Tarina's.

I only like the amethyst and the peacock shade.

I think three of the shades look a lot like the MAC pigments from Alice & Olivia in pressed form. For reference http://www.temptalia.com/mac-alice-olivia-collection-pigments-review-photos-swatches Perhaps you could do a comparison swatch? That would be amazing. =)

Peacock is gorgeous! ...Now that I think about it, Peacock seems to look a bit like the shade Peggy from Kat Von D's Memento Mori Eyeshadow Palette.

It looks very much the same to me as well. I was about to comment to this effect.

I agree, they're v. close but Peggy seems to have a slightly green hint to it that doesn't appear in Peacock imo. Peacock seems to be a bluer, if that makes any sense. Of course, I'm swatching Peggy on my hand & not using the same lighting as Christine. Also, I'm an NC 37 so it could also be the way it's interacting with my skin color. What I will definitely say is that having Peggy is close enough to having Peacock, for me, and so that satisfies my lemming as Peacock is the only color in this palette that jumps, for me. (Although reviewing the swatches, Amythest is starting to look killer...)

Doesn't really do anything for me personally. Bobbi Brown had a Holiday palette out last year that I liked, but missed out on. Oh well, life goes on.

I really, really like it! Unfortunately, it will probably cost $150+ here and I can't justify that for only 4 eyeshadows, however beautiful I think they are...

Hi Christine, I'm really interested in the Bobbi Brown holiday day to night palette in warm, any chance you might be reviewing that one? You're the only blogger I trust! Thanx, Rosa p.s. do you know how many oz of eyeshadow you get in that palette?

I think I will be reviewing it!

Wow--that's not enough ZIP??? (of course, this is a total neutrals, Bobbi devotee talking here!)

i must be jaded from having too many beautiful pop-up urban decay palettes with bright colors, because this is just boring to me.

I keep lemming this palette hardcore! I even checked sephora.com and my store (which won't even have BB until after the holidays.) It looks so gorgeous in person! I want it, but I don't need it... decisions, decisions. :)

I know, total bummer that the BB holiday isn't up on Sephora yet :(

So beautiful, the Peacock shade is very gorgeous !

But I thought Bobbi Brown hated color....?

These colors are alright, but they don't jump out at me. I've honestly never found any Bobbi Brown product that excites me.

I feel the exact same way.
