I just bought the YSL touche eclat, but I am not sure how to use it. I read that you are still supposed to use concealer under the eye and put it on the outer part under the eye, but I really don’t see much of a difference. I know people rave about it, but I just don’t get it…

    • I always used it all under my eye, and I didn’t use concealer alongside it… I applied it to just next to the bridge of my nose and the undereye area, then blended.

Hey! thanks so much , I love this site! I have the UD rockstar and electric eyeliners. I wanted to do a different look using a one color on the upper and one on the lower lashline, but I’m not sure if those two colors go together. Can you recommend what colors go with the two I already have? And what eyeshadows could I pair with it?
Also, do you have any last minute shopping to do?

    • It’s an interesting mix, but I’m sure you could make it work.

I think both colors would work well with golds and taupes – maybe even a lil’ green. I’d probably do a goldish shade on the lid, a medium coffee brown on the outer lid, and then maybe a plummy shade in the crease. You could do the liner either way.

Nope, no last minute shopping. I’m VERY good about my holiday shopping, lol!

    Hi Christine!

Are there any products that you would recommend for postacne marks/scars?

    Thanks! :)

Do you have any NARS favorites?

  5. Christina

what camera do you use for snapshots?

What are the top 5 NYX products you recommend? Any of the new NYX palettes or powder blushes?

Also, regarding makeup brushes, do you prefer the Sigma Makeup brushes or the Crown brushes? I’ve heard good things about both! If you prefer the Crown brushes, then which series do you like best?

    Thanks!

    • I haven’t tried enough NYX to give you five, I don’t think, lol! I’d try their glosses or lipsticks…

I haven’t tried either Sigma or Crown brushes, sorry!

    Hi Christine,
I was wondering if you knew of any makeup blogs that post reviews of drugstore, or more affordable makeup? I’m sixteen and am still dependent on my parents, so MAC/Chanel/etc. is not something I can usually afford.
And I would also like to say I really love your blog, it’s given me a lot of great tips. Thanks!

Thanks so much for taking questions, Christine. I learn so much from everyone else in addition to getting my questions answered.

1- Let’s talk brush care. You are doing a multi-shade eye look. After you apply one color do you use that same brush for the others? Wipe it off in between? Clean thoroughly between uses? Does your routine differ for cream and powder?

2- I have small eyes so I usually use eye makeup to open them up and highlight their color (green– my favorite feature). This usually means washes of light color with just a little darker outer corners and very thin liner on upper lashline only. But I love love love the look of smokey eyes. Any tips for a smokey eye that won’t shrink my small eyes?

    Thanks and happy holidays!

    • Hey Steph,

1.) Well, I’m weird, and I own multiple brushes… like I have 5 239s, just so I don’t have to deal with that issue. You could, of course, use a fast drying cleaner like MAC’s Brush Cleanser (spray a little on, then wipe on a paper towel) – or just use something like baby wipes to brush it off on. I keep cream and powder brushes totally separate, though. I wouldn’t even bother trying to quick clean if I was transition between those two! I do use one side of the brush for this color, the other side for another (but maybe a shade that’s still similar).

2.) You could try smoking out the lower lash line on the outer half – it’ll give you a smoky corner without shrinking your eyes!

I’m planning on buying the chanel kaska quad, which blush do think would go with it?

Thanks for doing the “Ask session” again.

What e/s colors would you recommend from MAC for eyebrows?

What nail base and topcoats do you use? I feel like no matter what I use, I can’t get my polish to last longer than maybe four days. I think it’s me though…

I feel like i have more questions but it’s late and I just got home and saw this and can’t think. Thanks for always answering these :). Have a good winter break.

    • Hi Rosie,

Depends on your brow color! Popular brow shades are Omega, Brun, Espresso, and Wedge :)

I use Zoya’s Color Lock System! THAT’S MY FAVE. I love that it’s a system, too (top coat, base coat, fast drying coat, AND remover). I use it with everything & never have to experiment.

    Hi Christine,
What do you think about using anti-aging products at a young age? I’m 22 yrs old and just wondering what your thoughts are about this!! Thanks!

    • Hi,

I’m very skeptical about anti-aging products overall, so I am more about prevention than correction or trying to rewind time. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with using anti-aging products, but I personally wouldn’t shell out hundreds of dollars on an anti-aging regimen!

    Hi Christine,
What would you say are the two best flat irons? I have very oily skin and I use blot paper/blot powder on a daily basis. Is there anything else I could do to minimize the oil?

    • I’ve only tried two, lol! (ghd and T3… hmm, maybe I have FHI, too) They all seem the same to me, but I have pretty straight hair, so it’s hard to tell.

Have you tried a mattifying cream or gel?

  13. Rachael

I recently bought Brule, Malt, Bisque, Blanc Type, and Modest Tone. I know they are all similiar. Do you think I need to have all the colors or are some easily duped by one of the others?

    • You could probably pick just one between Malt and Brule and one between Bisque and Blanc Type. I find neutrals are really good to have, even if they’re “similar.” They just add so much to the party :)

What is the best way to have natural looking eyeliner? Pencil? Shadow? Or any alternative
as my eyes tend to get irritated by anything close to them! And the top five pink and
    coral lipsticks

    thanks! Love your site

    • Natural brown kind of pencils are very natural looking :)

Brand specific lipsticks or any brand?

MAC: Angel, Sweetie, Bombshell, Girl About Town, Speed Dial

I couldn’t even give you five MAC coral lipsticks, so I’ll do any brand: Guerlain Gems, Chanel Delicieuse… and yeah, that’s it. I haven’t found as many corals as I’d like :(

    Hi Christine,

I want to depot all my MAC individual e/s but I can’t find the sticky magnet anywhere.
Tomorrow I’ll fly off to Vegas, LA and Honolulu, I’ll appreciate it very much if you or other readers can recommend where to buy those.

    Thank you and happy holiday!

    Christine,
Do you know when MAC is going to have another Friends and Family sale? Thanks

Hi!! I have SUPER fair, cool skin with blonde hair. I have some redness to my skin that I use a yellow powder to mask…. people still say I should wear blush and especially bronzer though. Do you think this is a good idea?? and if yes, how do I find one for me since even blush recommended for fair skin generally looks too bright on me, and light bronzer makes me look dirty…. Thanks!!

    • Use green to counteract redness :)

You can definitely wear blush and bronzer if you want to – but it’s up to you! You could try MSFN, sometimes that works as a bronzer :)
