MAC Vera: Flower Fantasy Pearlmatte Face Powder

MAC Flower Fantasy Pearlmatte Face Powder ($28.00 for 0.42 oz.) is described as “pale coral with slight gold pearl, slightly blue pale pink, soft pale salmon.” The largest shade is a dirty coral; it’s a little brown, little coral, with a subtle sheen.  The smaller color in the middle (so-to-speak) is a pale rosy pink with a pearly sheen. The final shade in the palette is a frosted peach champagne. Together, they create a warm peach-pink with a shimmer-sheen finish. If you want less shimmer in your finish, avoid the bottom portion of the palette. Chanel Pink Cloud is lighter and less pink. Chanel Blush Horizon de Chanel is less shimmery, pinker. MAC Semi-Precious Rose Quartz is more of a dirty pink. MAC Oh So Fair is lighter, less pink.

Though the individual shades don’t seem quite pigmented and almost a little stiff, when swirled together, there doesn’t seem to be any pigmentation or texture issues. When I tested the wear of this, it wore for six and a half hours before it started to look a little faded and patchy.  The texture is soft though not as finely-milled as some of the best powders. There is some emphasis of the quality and texture of skin, but it’s very slight.

You can vary the shimmer in the finish and how light you want to go by using less of the bottom shade, which has a really frosted finish that adds lots of shimmer as well as lightens the color.  I did dig through the product to verify that the three distinct shades go all the way through.  The metallic silver that is between the shades is just an overspray.

MAC Viva Glam Nicki & Ricky Review, Photos, Swatches

MAC Viva Glam Nicki & Ricky is a new campaign to promote awareness of HIV/AIDS through MAC AIDS Fund’s Viva Glam program. This year’s limited life products include a specially designed Lip Conditioner (in a tube) with Ricky Martin’s signature emblazoned across it and lipstick Viva Glam Nicki (bright yellow pink) with Nicki Minaj’s signature on the inner packaging.

No matter how you may feel about the promotional material or celebrities chosen this year, the entire selling price of each product goes directly to MAC AIDS Fund, which is dedicated to raising HIV/AIDS awareness. MAF does some amazing things, and it’s one of the best charities I’ve seen any beauty brand identify with. It’s a rare thing to see a brand that donates 100% — and this isn’t just net proceeds, which is typically after costs are paid for. This is a full $14.50 or $15.00 that goes straight to a good cause. If neither of these products are appealing to you, there are several other permanent Viva Glam shades that are more wearable and universally flattering.

Viva Glam Nicki is a vibrant medium pink with subtle yellow undertones that give it a kiss of coral. It has a satin finish, which means it has a semi-matte finish; there’s a natural sheen but nothing glossy or shimmery. The color coverage is opaque, and it applies evenly. On me, it wears four hours. MAC Chatterbox is not as bright, slightly darker. YSL Fetish Pink has a blue-base. Elizabeth Arden Perfect Flamingo is a touch darker and cooler-toned.

Lip Conditioner is clear and slick. This always feels really slippery on my lips; almost like thickened milk. I prefer other lip balms to this personally. The staying power and overall hydration are good but not great. I like that it’s in a tube, though, so it’s more travel- and pocket-friendly.

LUSH Do Knot Disturb Review & Photos

LUSH Do Knot Disturb
LUSH Do Knot Disturb

LUSH Do Knot Disturb

LUSH Do Knot Disturb ($29.95) includes four products: French Kiss bubble bar, Sex Bomb, Lust soap, and Soft Couer massage bar. Note, mine is a press sample, and it came with Dirty Toothy Tabs, whereas the ones for purchase include French Kiss–boo!hiss! since I adore lavender! The bubble bar as the fourth item is a way better pick, because those Toothy Tabs aren’t for everyone (so just ignore it in my photos!). With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, I wanted to share this with you, because I think it’s absolutely adorable. Totally a cute gift to give to your special someone who loves LUSH!

French Kiss is a bubble bar, which is described as a “calming and reviving lavender, rosemary, and thyme bath.” Bubble bars are typically used to add bubbles and scent to a hot bath. While you can certainly drop the whole thing into the tub, the best way to use these is to crumble a few pieces into the bath. I normally get two to three uses out of each bubble bar.

Sex Bomb is a bath bomb, which is described as “jasmine, clary sage, and ylang ylang.” It also has soya milk to make the water milky and helps to soften your skin while you soak. It primarily adds scent and color to a bath, and this particular bath bomb turns the water pink. Not as moisturizing as a bath melt, but skin won’t feel dry after a long soak with this. It will leave a faint purple ring around the tub, which I found rinsed off once I turned the shower on, but still something to mention.

Lust soap is all about jasmine. It’s full-on, unabashedly jasmine. I’m personally not a fan of jasmine (or most floral-based scents), but if you do love jasmine-scented products, it’s nice. It’s not synthetic or like a layered perfume.

Soft Couer is a massage bar, which is described as a mix of honey and cocoa powder. If you’ve tried Honey I Washed the Kids, the scent should be familiar. Massage bars are solid forms of moisturizing butters that melt as they’re slid around the skin (assuming you’re warm-blooded, of course!). I actually picked this up a couple of years ago in a trio of massage bars. If you do any massage, these are excellent–they really melt upon contact with the skin, and you can work it in over time, because it doesn’t dry down immediately.
