Sinful Cloud 9 Nail Lacquer

Sinful Cloud 9 Nail Lacquer ($1.99 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is a bright tangerine orange with gold-tangerine shimmer. I don’t have a shade that looks quite like this with shimmer, but China Glaze Papaya Punch is just a bit darker, while China Glaze Sun Worshipper is closer (though lighter) but lacks the shimmery element of Cloud 9–and I think the shimmer is what makes it stand out. China Glaze Riveting is much more of a fiery orange-red.

The color coverage wasn’t quite opaque after two coats, but it was close enough that I would not feel a third coat was necessary. I only get visible nail line in some lighting at certain angles. The consistency wasn’t too thick or too thin, and I really liked the application on this shade–a very happy thing after the frustration of Sinful HD Nails. I do get a week of wear out of Sinful’s formula, though there is minor to noticeable tip wear after seven days (but no chipping!).

Revlon Raspberry Pie ColorBurst Lip Butter

Revlon Raspberry Pie ColorBurst Lip Butter

Revlon Raspberry Pie ColorBurst Lip Butter ($7.49 for 0.09 oz.) is a medium-dark raspberry pink with a naturally glossy shine. Guerlain Champs-Elysees is redder and brighter. Estee Lauder’s Wild Violet is redder. MAC Scandelicious is just a bit redder but has a very similar finish. Dolce & Gabbana Orchid is a hint darker.

It has mostly opaque color coverage, which may be what you’re looking for, but Revlon describes the coverage of their Lip Butter formula as sheer to medium. If you were looking for a hint of color with a balmy texture, this may not be your best bet, because it really does pack a punch with its color payoff. Raspberry Pie glides onto lips easily and has a wet look and feel that makes it have more slip but not too much that it bleeds.

The slip does contribute to a slightly below average wear time; I typically get four hours with the average lipstick, and with a more fuchsia shade like this, five to six hours, but I was only able to wear this shade for three hours. The formula is hydrating while you wear it, and the hydration lingers for a bit after you’ve removed it. It doesn’t replace a really good lip balm for real, long-lasting moisture, but it is a fantastic example of what a moisturizing lipstick should be.

Barney’s. I ordered two palettes online ($55 each!) but only received one in the mail and received a shipping notification for that palette. I thought they had split the shipment, but after a week with no word, I called to ask when they expected to ship it. They said it was with the first – well, there was no receipt or invoice in the box to begin with, and there was just one. They proceeded to make me feel like a criminal/thief and told me that if I had a problem to dispute the charge with my credit card company (which was just my bank). A couple of years ago, I ordered three pairs of shoes from Nordstrom, which had supposedly been delivered but weren’t on my doorstep when I looked (I imagine it was stolen). I called Nordstrom, and without having to ask, the customer service representative offered to overnight replacements and they would take care of everything else. Nordstrom replaced a $300+ order in two minutes. It took me at least two months to deal with Barney’s.
