I usually use it on days I wear no shadow and just a colorful liner on my lower lash line. I feel like it gives me an extra glimmer that makes up for not wearing shadow! Today I’m just wearing studio fix, x-rocks blush, by candlelight as a highlight, viva glam v on my lips, and milani liquif’eye in black on my lower water/lash line!

    • Heather

That sounds like a really nice, simple look. I might have to try that! :)

      • LNU

Thanks Heather! Its pretty much my go-to everyday look! And something about glitter or shimmer just adds a nice touch to a simple look!

  2. Dani :)

i would use mac blush of youth on my cheecks with just a little mac by candle light on my apples to brighten up my face. on my eyes i would use mac bare study paint pot with et tu,bouqet all over my lid and up to the brow bone all that glitters in the crease and naked lunch as a highlight. on my lip i would use soft lips lip balm mixed with a teeny tiny bit of lady gaga viva glam lipstick. it looks very natural!!! even the lips if you put on the lip balm rub your finger in the lady gaga lipstick then mix that with the lip balm already on your lips with your finger! it looks great!!!

  3. Jayna

I like to use this as a highlight above just above my blush on my cheek and a light swipe outside my eyes. I am a Southern girl so we go a little light on “dewey” looks on our face especially in the summer! Do not want look like the “glisten” is due to the heat and humity! I like to wear it more with my coral colors, hipness blush!

  4. Lo

I think it could go with a lot of different looks as it’s such a universal pretty colour, but I really love it paired with The Perfect Cheek blush, and Marquise ‘D lipstick or Frankly Fresh lipglass (all peachy nude colours).

I think on the eyes a soft wash of peachy gold (All That Glitters) maybe wih a tiny bit of Cork or Wedge thrown in the crease, and Urban Decay Binge 24/7 liner (metallic navy-denim colour)smudged into the upper and lower lashline and the water line, and lots of black mascara.

    • Sounds divine! I’ll have to try that – I have Perfect Cheek blush, Marquise ‘D lipstick and All That Glitters. Thanks for the tip! :)

Hi Christine! I don’t know where to ask you this, but I have a question for you since you are a makeup expert. :)

Do you know of a pale lilac or lavendar pink blush? I’m very fair (nw10) and only look good in very cool colors. Most blushes are too dark, and go on blotchy. Have you seen a blush this color? My favorite – Shu Uemura Pink 33B – was discontinued. Looking for something in a matte finish. Mac Coygirl is too dark, and Well Dressed is just a bit too pink leaning instead of purpley pink. Any ideas? Have you tried Make Up For Ever blush in Lilac? That one sounds promising… thanks for any advice, Christine!! :) I just love your blog.

P.S. I like Candlelight as an all over glow with champagne e/s and an MLBB lip color like Creme Cup.

    • Hi Laura,

      Perhaps Illamasqua Katie –

Though not SUPER SUPER cool-toned. Sephora described Chased as a lilac pink, but I found it quite pink overall, not really lilac (just a heads up, in case you check out Illamasqua’s blushes and see that description!).

From MUFE, is it Lilac #89? If so, I think that’s going to be very, very bold/dark. MUFE’s eyeshadows/blushes are the same product and can be used interchangeably. You might like Lilac #116 (but it looks like it’s going to be quite purple).

      • lauralikesmakeup

Hi Christine! Thank you for the quick response. I will try Illamasqua Katie and not order the MUFE! Another nice color online is Glominerals (have you heard of this brand?) Globush in Lilac Silk. The search is on! Thanks again, Christine. :)

    • Shannon

Have you looked at MAC’s In the Groove collection yet? The mineralize blush duo in Hang Loose is half lilac half baby pink… i know swirled together it is very similar to Well Dressed but I bet you could use more of the lilac side to find what you’re looking for?

    • Diana

Try Rock and Republic’s blush in TEASE. It’s definitely the most lilac pink blush I’ve ever purchased. Katie is a pale milky pink.

  6. Veronica

I think By Candlelight looks great with natural or dramatic looks, but I prefer it for when I do dramatic eyes. Today I’m wearing it with a little bit of Marine Life, Blankety lipstick (with a bit of Minted Rose lip salve), UDPP eyeshadow in Smog, Sin, Chopper, Oil Slick and Last Call (I think I got those right…I just bought them!), liquid eyeliner on the upper lash line and about 80 coats of mascara!!

  7. I tried it at the store and liked it applied as a blush. Gave a nice pink glow to my cheeks. And I got it on Friday, haven’t played with it yet. But I think I will pair it with either a neutral eyes (may be a dash of Stila Kitten) with black eyeliner and mascara, brown-toned lipstick for some sort of nude look; or glam up the eyes with bright lips.

Pardon me….it’s late here where I am and my imagination is not working well. I will play with the MSF in the morning and then, upload the photos to share with you and your readers. :)

  8. sophie

i recently got this one,i like it alot!
I use it with my bronzing cream to give it shimmer(since the bronzing cream goes on tooo brown)I also wear it on its own, on me it looks a little pink with shimmer! perfect for summer!
on the eyes i usually wear eyeliner or some bronzy and purple eyeshadow and something nude on my lips!
    and i’m beach bar ready!

  9. Refinement

I’ve been wearing this on my cheeks as a blush and also on my brow bone. I pair it with Go For It lipstick and Tete-A-Tint eyeshadow and Fig. 1 in my crease. Perfect look summer look for my NW45 skin tone 😀

  11. Ginger

I use it as a highlighter or blush, but my favorite look is using it as an eyeshadow! I use over NARS Multiple in Shout Beach (shimmering apricot) for soft, glowy eyes.

  12. Maja

I used it today as a blush, over Biotherm Aquaradiance Foundation, with Calvin Klein’s Olive Twist eyeshadow, blended with Mac Hey Eyeshadow and Mac Patisserie ond the lips.

  13. marley

i would just wear it with brown eyeshadows something nuetral

  14. Beth

I am actually using this today and I love love love it. This is my natural look:

Tarina Tarantino Dollskin Cheek in Filigree,
Kat Von D Ludwig palette – Downtown on lids, Baroque in the crease, wetted Leather for liner under the eye
Urban Decay Blunt as a highlighter
Stila Kitten in the eye corner
    YSL Exaggerated Lashes mascara
    Smashbox lip gloss
    MUFE 209 powder
    MAC By Candlelight as highlighter.

  15. Cheyenne

Today I got to try my Candlelight Mineralize Skin Finish!! I was so excited to use it as a highlight. To my suprise though it has a more ‘pinkish peachy’ color to it than I expected from a highlight. I noticed on some people it looked like a highlight, but for me this looks like a blush. I LOVE it as a blush, but I still have not found that perfect highlighter. Since I wore this today, I paired it with a neutral brown smoke out eye and then a nude lip. :) I got creme de nude. It’s so beautiful!

  16. I use mine almost every day since I got it, and I think it goes well with neutral shadows like those from the UD Naked Palette (smog, sidecar, and virgin). I’ve been wearing neutral pink lipsticks with it as well, to give a glowy and simple summer look.

  17. Mewwy

For lighter skin tones like NC15 and NW15, this msf can be used as a blush – a rather warm blush that’s not only pinkish but actually goes on a little beige-ish orange. Could be a good option other than this season’s favorite color, coral.

A warm lip is recommended (such as In The Groove lipstick Jazzed) as well as subtle eyes. Not sure about pairing this msf with strong eyes though…because it’s enough shimmer on its own.

  18. I wear it as a highlight with benefit hoola and sugarbomb. Super glowy and pretty!

  19. Jami

I’ve used this almost everyday since I got it in the warm a cozy collection. My fav look I’ve done with is dazzle light on the eyes, gel liner on upper lash line winged out, urban decay painkiller as my lower liner (not in water line), lots of mascara, and by candlelight brushed over my cheeks up into my hairline and hippness blush lightly applied on the apples of my cheeks. And to finish it up lipglass in enchanteress

  20. Mai

i would use it with any look as a highlight on my cheeks.

  21. Diana

I wore this today with UD Naked Palette on my eyes (Sin on the lids and inner corners as well as the lower lashline, darkhorse in the crease and layered over sin on the lower lashline. Stila Golden Noir smudgepot as liner, UD Zero on the waterline, Nars Deep Throat and By Candlelight on the tops of my cheekbones, above my brows, and down the center of my nose.

  22. Janet

I was fortunate enough to inherit my mom’s fabulous cheekbones so I love to use By Candelight to highlight them.

  23. inaya

oh wow. I just bought soft and gentle; should i buy by candlelight MSF TOO? or are they extremely alike? I’m an nc32-35. thanks!

    • ellectronica

Yes you should definitely get it!! Don’t walk run!! They were sold out on the Canadian site and I had to call around and found one at the Bay. It is amazing!!

    • Maja

No, they are not alike. Soft and gentle is more a pale white-gold with more shimmer to it. Great as a higlight. By Candlelight is more a soft creamy peach, that you could use as a blush on lighter skintones. So yes, you should get By Candlelight if you can and like light peachy colours on your cheeks.

  24. inaya

haha. thanks ellectronica! before i put on my running shoes; and are they really different? cause in Bangladesh MSFs cost a bit more than USD$35.

  25. Sarah

Want this so bad! Trying to decide if I should use the money Ive saved from recycling cans along with a $12 nordstrom card hidden somewhere to get this or to get a Jac Vanek bracelet.
Limited edition products suck when your young.

  26. i honestly would put gold deposit msf on my cheeks and then put by candlelight over it (:
i think it would make the gold deposit msf pop(:

  27. Tuta

I use it as a highlight on my cheek bones and nars orgasm blush on the apples of my cheeks

  28. Courtney

I like using it as a highlight on top of Tenderling and sometimes I just wear it by itself if I want a more natural look with a glow.

  29. ledonatela

I wear this all the time as it’s my HG MSF. I usually do a grey smokey eye (typically BB Chrome palette), I like this on my cheeks by itself or for night I might do it with a light layer of NARS Oasis blush, and for lips I like MAC Fabby or VGV.

  30. Ashleigh

I’m surprised I haven’t seen anyone say they use it like I do (LOL)…

I love to use it as a lid color on my eyes OR as a browbone highlight…especially if I’m just looking for a wash of color and nothing too bold.

  31. inaya

thank you so much Maja! that was really informative; looking forward to picking it up

  32. Camilla

I like to use By Candlelight as a blush when I am wearing nothing but foundation, just a hint of colour and glow to bring the blue of my eyes forward without going through all the trouble that is eye shadow application. Sometimes I sweep this on my lids too, and add a brown liner, for just that pretty, natural glow that is barely there but still makes a huge impact. A tint to my lips of a coral or rose, just a tad more colourful than my lips, and I do achieve that put together look without really putting a lot of effort into it.

  33. jo

i pair mine with nars cream blush in penny lane for my everyday look, sweep it up over the cheek bone and into the temple for a gorgeous highlight. love to pair this one with naked lunch in the inner corner and benefit eye bright on the brow bone. great easy and fool proof look.

  34. Mary Beth

I just bought it today so I’m glad you’re doing this feature! When I tried it in the store I had on: MAC Honesty, MAC Style blush, and Korres Pink mango butter lipstick. It looked good with those.

  35. Hi Christine! I’m new to your blog and I must say I love it!

I was wondering if you like mineral skinfinish over the lustre drops from Mac to the beach. I bought the lustre drops but I’m wondering if the powder is better.

  36. Olivia

OMG! I know! I always want MAC products but they are soooo expensive and by the time its my b-day or I have the money the collection in discontinued. :(

  37. leia

Scrape Candlelight and mix it with MAC strobe cream for extremely dewy look.

  38. Ani_BEE

I just got By Candlelight a week ago and all I have to say is use it with EVERYTHING! On my uber fair (I’m paler than NC15 being my closest shade) skin this acts like a bronzer and highlight powder for me. Over all this is just a lovely pick me up face power.
