Your eye combination sounds gorgeous, Liz! Alhambra & Loaded… *nice* choice! Loaded may be one of my top 10 favorite eyeshadows.

  4. You make me want Supercontinental really bad!

This week my favorite look is the one I did with the Chanel fall release. I used Rose Initiale on my cheeks, Troublant on my lips, and Frenzy on my nails! I had Hourglass Dune on my eyes.

If anyone’s interested the pictures are here:

    Very pretty look !
I can’t wear any makeup, it’s really too hot ( 39 ° ! ). I just tried Rose Initiale this morning, it’s a lovely blush really. I’m currently wearing Nars Ratin Jot on toes ( feet ), as a perfume I chose Lolita Lempicka L’Eau en Blanc and tonight I am wearing Baiser Volé from Cartier.

Because school starts awfully soon, I’ve been using these last weeks to spend a lot of time at the gym or the yoga studio so haven’t had much call to wear much makeup. But hubby and I are heading out tonight so I just went to put on something a bit more than “bare face”. Mac Matchmaster 1.5 and It Cosmetics under-eye concealer. MAC Sweet Satisfaction on my lids, WnW Comfort Zone right hand side “crease” shade on outer lid and into crease; Mac Omega to blend it out a bit and Vapour for a highlight (it just happened to be at hand in the quad with Omega). Gosh Metallic Brass liner, Tarte Natural Beauty blush and MAC Lustering lipstick (because I couldn’t find Capricious – turned out both tubes were in my kitchen!)

Your eyes look lovely in that photo, Christine (well, all of you looks lovely but your eyes just stand out, even with a bright red lip)

I played around a lot with the new NARS New Wave palette and I liked a tropical look I did one day: Rated R (chartreuse yellow) over 2/3 of the eyelid, Outremer (dark blue) on the outer V and crease, the middle part where they met was blended with the iridescent white-green-gold from NARS’ Iceland Duo, and then Himalayas to highlight on the brow bone and below the eye. UD’s Clash (shimmery turquoise) shadow pencil on the eyelash line and waterline. Black mascara.

I took photos on my phone while waiting in the car at the vet hospital but I almost shudder to post them because they are either a bit blurry or not wholly accurate as to colour (esp. for Outremer). It’s also not the neatest look I’ve done and my eyes are red from no sleep, but with all those embarassed caveats, here goes: http://gi27.photobucket.com/groups/c181/SY4TC2ZMWJ/RatedR2.jpg

Professional or not … I love to see how other’s do their make-up.

I like the look Kafka! What do you use on your brows?

While window shopping on Nordies, I did check out the Wave palette. I put it in my cart and took it out about 15 minutes later. Why you may ask? I am on a ‘No-buy’ of blue eyeshadow. Goodness, I really do want this palette though!

      • Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Kafka Kafka

Thank you, Dinitchka (I always want to call you Dinotchka for some crazy reason. Probably, the famous Ninotchka movie with Greta Garbo. lol). I have absolutely no idea how people take photos of themselves, especially with cellphones! LOL.

For my brows, I use an YSL soft black eyeshadow but I’ve found the real key is to have a firm, slanted eyebrow brush. I got one recently on sale at Sephora and it’s made a big difference over the slanted liner brush I was using before.

Why a “no-buy” of blue eyeshadow? Too many, or is it a colour you hesitate to use? Me, I don’t use a lot of bright blue eyeshadow but I was determined to try a look that not only replicated the actual Rated R Duo (only with Outremer as the blue shade), but also to use Outremer as other than just a eyeliner shadow. I have to admit, it’s not an easy eyeshadow to use and really needs a sticky base to make it show up intensely. It was fun to do a tropical, toucan look though. :)

Which colour in the New Wave palette appeals to you the most? At the risk of being an enabler, it is a jaw-droppingly gorgeous set…. ;) That said, Daphne and Outremer are shades that *definitely* need a sticky base to work at their best. They are not shades that really work just by themselves. Not even with primer. In fact, I think I read that NARS intended them as layering shades to go on top of other things. But once you have that base…. WOWZER. (Especially Daphne which is spectacular and goes with a wide range of colours from greens like UD’s Loaded to greys, blues, etc.)

    • how do you like Nars Outreamer? I find the color very difficult to work with (streaky). I have the eyeshadow single of it, and I love the color in the pan, but find I cant get the color to apply evenly to my lid. Do you have the same problem?

      • Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Kafka Kafka

Liza, like you, I find Outremer very hard to work with. Probably the hardest out of all the NARS eyeshadows I have thus far. I’ve heard that NARS has explicitly said this (and Daphne) are intended to be layering shades. In other words, it is meant to go on top of something else. What I’ve done and had success with is to use a sticky base to get it to adhere and show up with the intensity that it has in the pan. I either use a cream eyeshadow as a base or, sometimes, I use MAC’s sticky concealer in the pot. Then I just layer and layer Outremer in small pats on top of it. I try to put it on with a damp brush too, only sweeping on the sides of the pan so that I don’t ruin the pan as it does seem to get a little speckled by dampness. But the key really seems to be using that cream or wet/sticky base. Without it, no luck at all. If you try that method, let me know how it works for you. :)

I went to a wedding today and wore MAC Superwatt (electric cool e/s) on the lid, Wedge on the crease and Brown Script to warm up and darken the outer corner. Bobbi Brown Espresso for a crisp cat eye and Girl About Town lipglass for a pop of lip color. Just a bronzer for contour, no color blush as I didn’t want to have a color to compete with my lips. I wore “No Place Like Chrome” Essie nail polish that looked really great with my black and white dress.

It is unbelievable to me how amazing you look in a good red lip shade. Some women just really wear it well. :)

SUCH A LAZY WEEK FOR ME. Yesterday was probably my most made up day –

Eyes: UD Toasted on lid, UD Hustle in crease, UD Virgin on brow. Almay liquid liner in Black Pearl on upper lash line only. L’Oreal Million Lashes mascara on upper and lower lashes.

Face: Maybelline cream mousse blush in Soft Plum applied lightly, Revlon Age-Defying Illuminator on highlight points.

Lips: Revlon matte lipstick in Really Red

  12. I’ve been testing out products and trying out new looks all week, and so far I can’t decide which one I liked best… Maybe the charcoal grey & deep purple eyeshadow combo I did. I’m usually not a big fan of purple, but combined with the dark grey it really worked.

Just got the Urban Decay Smoked palette, so was messing around with it a lot this week! Was so excited for Loaded but I couldn’t make it work for some reason :(
Was out last night and wore a purple smokey eye with Rockstar, with some Blackout in the crease and loads of black eyeliner and Benefit They’re Real on lashes, with a stripe of gold (Half Baked) in the middle of the eye to brighten it up a little!

  14. I am really into the new Urban Decay Smoked palette. I actually like it a lot more than Naked & Naked 2 I’ve found. I’m in love with Urban Decay’s 24/7 pencil in Perversion, I find it great for the waterline. Also been wearing my Makeup Forever HD foundation a lot these days, I just love the way it looks on my skin. Really into highlighters & hot pink lips. So I would say been rocking Urban Decay Asphalt, with some Perversion eyeliner and a dewey cheek with hot pink lips. Today trying out the new Almay eyeshadow small palette that comes with a primer and 3 eyeshadows. I used the light pink shade from lash line to brow bone, the dark eggplant color on my lids, but applied with a fluffy brush so its more like a wash of color, and used the taupe as a liner. I did use my eyeko skinny black liquid liner on upper lash line and black mascara on top lashes with brown on the bottom. layered 2 blushes:benefit dandelion and benefit Hervana, then used Watts up as highlighter on cheekbones & bridge of nose, lips: Avon Pink Lemonade lipstick topped off with NP lip laquer in a high shine white

last week rocked Kinky from the UD smoked palette with just a little black liner on the lash lines and really liked how natural that looked. I think Kinky is a very underrated color

Hey Christine – Are you wearing mismatched earrings?
