Video Review: NARS Summer 2012 Collection

Some impressions/first thoughts on NARS’ summer collection! :) P.S. — We are working on figuring out the lighting situation for videos! Still trying to figure out why it turns out so dark!

It’s odd to me how that eyeshadow seems to switch colours depending on situation. In your photo swatches, the colours looked greyish blue and pinky brown (respectively) to me. The closer the photo, the more silvery/grey-tinged blue I saw, to the point where I thought it might just have been my monitor. (It looked more solidly blue and less grey when seeing it on my phone.)

But in the video, the colours look purply on you with pinky lilac. Completely and definitely purple, as it did in the lipstick swatch photos where you were also wearing the Marie-Galante. In other people’s blog swatches, the colours like purple and pure pink (with no lilac), and with no blue (or grey) undertones either. So, so confusing. I’m definitely going to have to try this out in person when it hits Sephora. Damn. I hate going to the mall.

I am so confused by the duo. In the still photos, which are generally spot-on, it looks so sheer & glittery, and the darker shade really does look alot like MAC Starless Night, but it looks more blue in the video, and the violet looks more opaque in the video swatch.

I looked at the swatches of MAC Stacked 1 & Violet pigments, but it’s so hard to compare with them not being side by side, but if I could get your opinion on how they compare to the purple shade IRL, I would really appreciate it.

I have SN, S1, &V, so I’m really asking if you think the duo is so drastically different that it would be worth it to buy it.

    • The only shade that might be different is the lilac one, but it’s a little ehhh. I think Starless Night is a much more intense version of the duo – and better for it. The video lighting is a work in progress, so I’d go more off of the still photos (because the lighting there is much more consistent and truer to life, even though it is the “best” of circumstances, e.g. not the same as a poorly lit office!).

Thanks. I’ll probably end up buying this at some point anyway, but at least I can quell my yearning for awhile (at least until I can see it in person). I just wish the lighter lilac wasn’t *so* sheer that it’s so hard to really pick up the actual shade so that I could do some actual side-by-side comparisons.
