Pat McGrath Bronze Seduction Mothership Eyeshadow Palette ($125.00 for 0.47 oz.) is a new, permanent palette that contains an assortment of warmer-toned hues ranging from peachy-gold to deep eggplant. I think the palette lives up to the marketing, but I’d recommend anyone new to the brand’s formulas to consider the brand’s application instructions, which they give for each shade, as often the shades are designed to be used wet/dry or with fingertips. The palette felt like a holiday party, even though it’s a fall launch, with the rich red, greenish duochrome, and intense sparkle in several shades. The finishes are definitely more impressive in person as they sparkle and dance with the light.

A lot of how well they perform (and to some degree, how they are supposed to be applied and marketed) depends on the type of shades, but by and large, the eyeshadows perform very much as they are described.

The brand released single eyeshadows in March 2019, and the shades have been consistent in quality, look, and feel. They are not removable, unfortunately, so one would have to depot like any other single eyeshadow--I tried using tweezers and lifting on several shades to no avail. The lids are held closed by a weak magnet, so I'm not sure they're as secure as most single eyeshadow compacts in my stash--I wish it really locked in, but there's definitely a magnet that pulls the lid down if it's within 2mm of the base.

The mattes are velvety, blendable, and dense without being thick or too heavy, and they have semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation where a little can go a long way with some of the deeper and richer hues. The satin and pearl finishes are smooth, lightly creamy, and firmer but not dense or thick with good pigmentation, blendability, and easy application. The more metallic finishes tend to be softer, creamy, and smooth with a bit more denseness and no powderiness. The sparkly/glittery shades are often designed to be applied wet for richer coverage or intensity, which has largely been my experience. Most of the shades last between eight and nine hours.

Entrapment is a dark brown with warmer undertones and a matte finish. The pigmentation was opaque in a single layer, while the texture was soft, smooth, and velvety with good substance and denseness that enabled it to adhere evenly to bare skin without sheering out. Bronze Blaze is a glittering, golden copper with warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. The brand recommends using a fingertip to apply this shade, which is a good way to work with it as it had larger sparkle paired with a smoother, lightly creamy base, so patting and pressing the eyeshadow on with a fingertip ensured fallout-free application. Alternatively, using a dampened brush worked well for opaque coverage, no fallout, and even adhesion to my lid that was still blendable along the edges. I was able to press the eyeshadow onto my dry with a brush with good results but had a little fallout if I wasn’t careful. It wore well for nine hours on me with just a touch of fallout.

Rose Gold 005

Rose Gold 005 is a medium-dark, rosy copper with subtle, warm undertones paired with a sparkling, metallic finish that twinkled gold and pink. The consistency was fairly smooth and blendable, though it had more sparkle in it and had that more baked-like texture that almost has a dry feel to it (without being dry or powdery). It can be used wet or dry where the dry application yielded more semi-sheer coverage with less depth but still a good amount of sparkle, minimal fallout, and easy blending. When applied with a dampened brush or fingertip (the latter as recommended), it had opaque coverage and a strong, almost wet-like finish that was twinkling and shiny. It was one of the more magical shades in the palette and really drew the eye in. It lasted well for nine hours with very little fallout over time.

VR Fire Opal is a bright, medium gold base with green-to-teal shifting sparkle and pearl. It had a metallic sheen that was very shiny and wet-looking on my lid. Xtreme Aubergine is a deep, eggplant purple with subtle, warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. There seemed to be nearly imperceptible shimmer strewn throughout that seems to be used to help improve blendability but has no impact on the look of the finish (matte). It was intensely pigmented with a soft, silky consistency that was velvet-like–dense but smooth–that adhered evenly to bare skin. The most impressive part about this shade was how blendable the edges were, and it did not sheer out or turn patchy as I blended out the shade on my skin. It lasted for just over nine hours on me before fading a touch.

Gilty Pleasure

Gilty Pleasure is a medium, golden taupe with warm undertones and a sparklig, metallic sheen. It had good pigmentation in a single layer with a soft, more loosely pressed consistency. Per the brand, this shade is advised to “press on with finger to build opacity,” which would be an accurate representation of this shade–it was buildable and opaque coverage was achievable when the eyeshadow was pressed onto the lid with a fingertip. Blitz Flame

Blitz Flame is a rich, medium-dark red with warm, rusty undertones and a metallic sheen. Per the brand, the recommended application is with fingertips for maximum coverage or to use a brush for a more diffused application. It had opaque coverage both wet and dry, but it did apply with more depth and richness when used with a fingertip or applied with a dampened brush. The texture was smooth, velvety, and blendable with nine-hour wear.

Pat McGrath's eyeshadows are, generally, supposed to be "super-saturated" with "creamy, soft textures" and "extreme blendability and adherence without creasing." A lot of how well they perform (and to some degree, how they are supposed to be applied and marketed) depends on the type of shades, but by and large, the eyeshadows perform very much as they are described.

The brand released single eyeshadows in March 2019, and the shades have been consistent in quality, look, and feel. They are not removable, unfortunately, so one would have to depot like any other single eyeshadow--I tried using tweezers and lifting on several shades to no avail. The lids are held closed by a weak magnet, so I'm not sure they're as secure as most single eyeshadow compacts in my stash--I wish it really locked in, but there's definitely a magnet that pulls the lid down if it's within 2mm of the base.

The mattes are velvety, blendable, and dense without being thick or too heavy, and they have semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation where a little can go a long way with some of the deeper and richer hues. Astral Luna Gold

Astral Luna Gold is a bright, light-medium gold with a sparkling, glittering finish. In the pan, it appeared like an almost bluish-white, and while I thought it seemed like a duochrome, I didn’t really get a duochromatic effect on my lid–it looked more like a glittering, yellow gold on my lid (the look above that used this is a good perspective of how it appeared in person, also the angled swatch). For as glittery as the shade was, the texture was smoother and packed quite a punch of shimmer/sparkle in a single layer (medium to semi-opaque) but goes on nearly opaque when used with fingertip (which is the preferred application, per the brand). I also liked using it with a dampened brush to get opaque coverage with greater precision. Once on my lid, it wore well for eight and a half hours with slight fallout over time.
