Viseart Midsommer Petit Pro Palette ($30.00 for 0.28 oz.) is a new, pink/mauve-leaning palette that includes five true mattes, one matte with random sparkle, and two shimmers. The shades went on fairly true-to-pan, so it was a lighter-leaning palette; on my skin tone, Cupidon and Puck looked almost the same, while Eglantine wasn’t much lighter.

I think this palette would be ideal for someone who only uses one or two shades in a look, as the shades together tended to run together (Midsommer being the most differentiated). It would also be more ideal for someone who likes sheerer coverage or more buildable eyeshadows–both of their place in the market but Viseart’s eyeshadows are supposed to have “intense, long-lasting color payoff,” so the results of this palette didn’t jive with the brand’s formula description.

The matte eyeshadows were medium to opaque in coverage, though often buildable, blendable, and easy enough to work with, though somewhat powdery in the pans. The shimmers were more loosely-pressed and worked best patted onto the skin with a fingertip. On my coloring, it end results didn’t vary much as a lot of the shades blended into each other in a way that made them look very similar once on.

Eglantine is a very light pink with strong, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single layer, but it diffused and sheer out a bit too readily, so it was hard to keep it at that coverage level without a primer underneath. The texture was moderately powdery and had a bit of fallout during application (even when I tapped off the excess initially). This shade stayed on well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Formula Overview

The eyeshadow formula is supposed to be "pigment[ed]" with "smooth and even application" that is "long-lasting." The matte shades are typically semi-opaque to opaque but buildable with soft, velvety textures that can sometimes be a little powdery or slightly firm, depending on the shade. I find that the mattes are often best suited to someone who likes control over pigmentation and may prefer to build up color; they regularly perform better in practice than just swatched on the arm as well.

The shimmer shades range from satin to metallic, and the more metallic shades tend to feel creamier to the touch, while the satin ones have a fine pearl to them that looks almost melted on the lid once blended out. Both the mattes and shimmers are blendable and easy to work with. Most of Viseart's eyeshadows wear between seven and nine hours on me.

Faerie is a very light pink with warmer undertones paired with a metallic finish that had a few bits of micro-glitter scattered throughout. It seemed to have more medium coverage, almost as if it had a transparent base, that worked well as an all-over shimmer shade on the lid as a wash of shimmer/sheen. For more semi-opaque coverage, I’d recommend applying with a fingertip or a dampened brush. The texture felt soft and finely-milled to the touch, so it was blendable and easy enough to work with The eyeshadow lasted well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

FYI, the ingredient list includes plastic (PET) glitter – so it appears it is actually plastic glitter (not larger sparkle).

It had good color payoff that adhered evenly to bare skin and diffused well along the edges without sheering out too readily. The texture was soft, lightly powdery but blendable, though there were some stray sparkles that dropped off my brush almost immediately. Changeling has a pinky-peach base with warm, undertones and blue-to-teal shift and micro-sparkle. It had a lightly, metallized finish that had some shine and twinkle but was less intense than the average metallic eyeshadow (which one may prefer! but just as an observation). The texture was soft, blendable but a bit thinner and had better, more even adhesion and fuller coverage applied with a fingertip. With a dry brush, it had more semi-opaque (but buildable) coverage with a touch of fallout. It wore well for eight hours before fading noticeably.
