White Chocolate Bar

Too Faced White Chocolate Bar Chocolate Bar Eye Palette ($49.00 for 0.42 oz.) is a new, limited edition eyeshadow palette that is available for Rouge/VIB members from 11/21 to 11/22 and then releases for everyone on at 11/23. It’s one of Too Faced’s worst palettes, and it’s still a mediocre, not-worth-$5 palette used over their own primer. The formula used in this palette is so dry that shades are often dusty, chalky, or powdery (or some mix) with many shades applying with little pigmentation, sheering out as soon as they’re touched, and have little wear time (even over primer!).

This palette was a head-scratcher: I have no idea why Too Faced would release this palette when their White Chocolate Chip Palette from last year was one of the brand’s worst palettes… ever (my review here). Even retailer reviews on it were pitiful, 37% of Sephora reviewers rated it 1-star with 64% rating it 3-stars or below; and it’s rare to see such low average ratings (2.7/5 for last year’s White Chocolate Chip) on any products on Sephora–the infamous Anastasia Subculture is rated 3.7/5.

The palette shares the bulk of its shades with last year’s palette, and there was little to no room for improvement from palette to palette, so this seemed like it was just a waste of time and money for all involved. It’s actually more frustrating to see a brand completely disregard customer feedback. It makes me feel like the brand doesn’t care, takes no pride in their products, and has no desire to improve their products.

Mint Chocolate (White Chocolate)

Mint Chocolate (White) is a light-medium green with cooler undertones and a matte finish. It had good pigmentation, but the slightly powdery texture made it more difficult to apply to my lid and get even, opaque coverage without a lot of the product dusting away as I worked. The color stayed on well for seven hours.

Glaze

Glaze is a pale beige with neutral-to-cool undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was smoother and silkier than most shades in the palette, though it was powdery and had a lot of fallout if it wasn’t tapped off heavily before using (and then it had semi-sheer coverage as a result). This shade did not build up, and it did have a tendency to drop product onto the lid when I tried using it on the brow bone, so it was a challenge to use without it turning other shades gray. It wore well for six hours on me.

Cake Batter

Cake Batter is a light-medium peachy orange with warm undertones and a matte finish. The texture was incredibly powdery and sheered out easily on the skin, even with a primer it only managed to show up as semi-sheer on me. It lasted for six hours on me.

Exotica

Exotica is a light, golden peach with warm undertones and a frosted sheen. It appeared a lot lighter in the pan than last year’s palette but swatched similarly–just a bit lighter. The texture was drier and dusty and felt loosely pressed in the pan, so it was messy to use in the pan and had a tendency to fallout over time. I felt like my eyelid ate this shade in particular as it was almost gone in four hours. I tried it over Too Faced’s Shadow Insurance primer and it lasted a mere six hours before showing significant signs of fading.

Chocolate Syrup

Chocolate Syrup is a muted, medium mauve with warmer undertones and a matte finish. It had medium coverage, which wasn’t buildable and improved only minorly over primer. The consistency was drier, powdery, and difficult to work with as there was a lot of fallout and not enough pigment stuck to the skin. It lasted for six hours on me.

Pearl Candy

Pearl Candy is a bright white with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. The consistency was drier and felt flaky, as chunks of powder came away from the pan. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that did not build up well and applied unevenly to the lid unless I used a dampened brush. It had faded significantly by the five-hour mark. It was worse than the one included in the White Chocolate Chip palette.

Raspberry Rose (White Chocolate)

Raspberry Rose (White) is a light-medium pink with warm undertones and a golden, pearly sheen. It had good pigmentation but none of it applied and adhered well–it looked like a dry, dusty whitish-pink after being on my lid for a minute and that was over primer. The color was also deeper and did not seem to have the same chalky feel as last year’s version. It applied decently and lasted for a whopping four hours on me.

Indulge

Indulge is a light, golden pewter with warm undertones and a frosted sheen. It was a bit lighter and warmer compared to last year’s palette. It had smei-opaque color payoff in a single layer and was fairly blendable, as it wasn’t too powdery in the pan and seemed to have binder in it. The color stayed on well for six and a half hours on me.

Lavender Cake

Lavender Cake is a light-medium lavender with cool undertones and a matte finish. It had sheer coverage with a chalky, powdery texture that was prone to sheering out or else making a big mess underneath the eyes and/or in the pan. I tried patting and packing it on over Too Faced’s primer to no avail. It had vanished within five hours of wear.

Guilt-Free

Guilt-Free is a very light taupe with cooler undertones and a matte finish. It had sheer coverage paired with a chalky, powdery texture that was prone to sheering out on the skin. When I tried patting it on top of the brand’s primer, it looked marginally more pigmented but did not build up beyond semi-sheer. Defying the odds, Too Faced made this shade even worse–it had a chalkier, almost white-tinged base that made the color appear lighter and was even less pigmented than the one in the White Chocolate Chip palette. I couldn’t tell if it was still there within five hours of wear.

Smoked Sea Salt

Smoked Sea Salt is a dark taupe brown with neutral-to-cool undertones and a matte finish. The eyeshadow was quite powdery in the pan, which resulted in semi-sheer coverage that did not build up at all (even over primer). It applied unevenly and was difficult to blend to even it out as it adhered strongly to bare skin wherever it decided to melt on. The color had started to look splotchy and faded after five hours of wear.

Frosted Apricot

Frosted Apricot is a medium, pink-coral with subtle, warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. It was another shade with that useless sparkle that sits on top but doesn’t bind with the powder, so it doesn’t show up on the skin and usually falls below the lid during application. The eyeshadow had good pigmentation with a powdery texture that tended to clump up when I used it with a flat brush. I could only get this one to work decently blended above the crease, but it faded so quickly whenever I tried using it on the lid (five hours).

Cookie Dough

Cookie Dough is a medium brown with warm undertones and a matte finish with flecks of gold sparkle. The sparkle did not bind with the product and just got trapped in the brush or fell below the lid during application. The eyeshadow had a dry, powdery texture that was prone to sheering out and had a ton of excess product kicked up in the pan. It was also darker and warmer compared to last year’s version. It lasted for five and a half hours on me before fading noticeably.

Sugared Raisin is a light mauve with warmer undertones and a sparkling finish. This year’s version was lighter, slightly warmer, and less chunky compared to last year’s shade. It had semi-sheer pigmentation that applied poorly, and there was fallout and some unevenness overall. It lasted for four and a half hours on me.

Black Sugar is a medium black with neutral-to-warm undertones and faint sparkle over a matte finish. It had good pigmentation with a drier texture that was a bit thin, so it did not apply as well as it could have and had a tendency to go on unevenly and not blend out well.
