The TruBlend Blush formula is supposed to be blendable and create a “multi-toned result.” It was the richest and deepest shade of the three that CoverGirl came out with this spring. It had good color payoff with a soft, smooth, and blendable texture (very key with a color like this!) that applied beautifully to the skin. The texture ran a smidgen dusty, but it didn’t look dry or powdery on me. This shade wore well for seven hours before there were signs of fading.

The TruBlend Blush formula is supposed to be blendable and create a “multi-toned result.” It had good color payoff with a smooth, blendable, but rather dusty, consistency that was prone to sheering out on the skin. It’s the type of formula that actually works best patted on with a damp brush or over still-drying liquid/cream foundation for better hold and coverage. This blush lasted for six and a half hours on me before I noticed fading.

The TruBlend Bronzer formula is supposed to be blendable and create a “perfect bronze glow.” It had great color payoff with a very smooth, blendable texture that was just a tiny bit powdery, but it was noticeably denser than the TruBlend Blush formula. The one thing I was caught off guard by was how the shimmer didn’t translate nearly as strongly on the cheeks once blended as it did just swatched on my arm–it was much more subdued, and as a result, there was no emphasis of pores either. On me, the bronzer wore well for seven hours before fading.

The TruBlend Blush formula is supposed to be blendable and create a “multi-toned result.” The texture is very soft and smooth, though it is a little on the powdery side; it tended to darken on the skin, but this seemed to ensure that it didn’t look dry or powdery when applied. It is, as described, easily blended and effortless to apply. The finish is really flattering on the skin without being too shimmery or too matte. The downside is that the more powdery texture makes it harder to build-up the color (it’s semi-sheer to semi-opaque), and it only lasted for six and a half hours on me before fading noticeably.

How-to:

1. With a flat, firm brush, apply COVERGIRL Bombshell Shine Shadow by LashBlast in Ice Queen over the inner third of the lid. Lightly pat and pull the color across the skin, and then with very light, feathery motions, move the edge of the brush horizontally against the harsh edge to soften.
2. Then, apply COVERGIRL Bombshell Shine Shadow by LashBlast in Ooh La Lilac to the middle and outer portions of the lid using another flat, firm brush. You’ll want to bring it just barely into the crease, and then soften that edge.
3. To add some depth, apply COVERGIRL Bombshell Shine Shadow by LashBlast in Platinum Card to the outer corner and the outer crease using a smaller, flat and firm brush. Lightly pat and feather the brush across the skin to soften and blend out any harsh lines.
4. Next, apply COVERGIRL Flamed Out Shadow Pot in Molten Black with a small, slightly tapered, crease brush to the outer corner and crease to provide additional darkness and depth to the look. Use short, small strokes and concentrate on blending out the color so it creates a gradient above and over the crease, towards the brow bone.
5. Using the same small crease brush, apply COVERGIRL Flamed Out Shadow Pot in Melted Caramel along the edge of the soft black crease color, as this color will help to transition and ease the gradient as it moves towards the brow bone. For fairer complexions, you may want to use something just slightly darker than your natural skin tone.
6. With a fluffy brush, apply your favorite highlight shade underneath the brow, along the brow bone, to accentuate and pull it forward.
7. For cheeks, a soft, natural brown works well to give a little definition and color to cheeks without being dramatic. I lightly patted COVERGIRL Flamed Out Shadow Pot in Melted Caramel with fingertips just underneath my cheek bones.
8. Now, for lips, you can choose your own adventure! Smoky eyes pair well with beiges, peaches, light pinks, or even bolder shades like fuchsia, berry, plum, and red. For a lighter lip color, I went with COVERGIRL LipPerfection LipColor in Darling. For the bolder lip color, I wore COVERGIRL LipPerfection LipColor in Bombshell.

CoverGirl Charcoal (335) Flamed Out Shadow Pot ($3.99 for 0.07 oz.) is a light-medium gray with a frosted sheen. It had good decent to good color payoff applied dry, and then it was smoother and more even when applied damp. Disney Midnight Hour is a touch lighter. MAC Frozen Blue is similar. Bobbi Brown Sterling is also similar. See comparison swatches.

Blazing Purple (340) Flamed Out Shadow Pot ($3.99 for 0.07 oz.) is a pinky lavender with a pearly finish. It’s slightly iridescent. It had good pigmentation both wet and dry, and this shade actually applies really smoothly and binds together well. I might say this is the best of the shades I’ve tried. L’Oreal With a Twist is purpler. Urban Decay Tainted is less shimmery. Guerlain Attrape-Coeur #4 is very similar. See comparison swatches.

Charcoal had a slightly grainy, powdery consistency, but applied wet, it did smooth out and apply better. I had minimal fall out with it as well, so that was a big plus since I’ve experienced much more noticeable fall out with several other shades. Blazing Purple, however, didn’t have that grainy texture, and it also didn’t have any fall out. Both shades lasted without fading or creasing for eight hours.
