Chantecaille Eclat Brilliant Face Powder ($92.00 for 0.19 oz.) is a light-medium gold with strong, warm yellow undertones and a luminous sheen. The texture was smooth to the touch, more firmly-pressed into the pan without being stiff to work with, and it felt consistent with similar, gel-powder like formulations.

These type of formulas work better with moderately dense brushes for initially picking up product, while their major advantages are that the powder itself tends to “melt” more when applied to the skin and there’s no powderiness or excess kicked up in the pan.

It had opaque color coverage in a single layer, but it was easy to dial down the coverage if desired since one just needed to use a lighter hand. The highlighter applied well to bare skin, blended out with ease, and didn’t emphasize my skin’s natural texture. It lasted well for eight and a half hours before fading visibly on me.

Chantecaille Sunlight Face Illuminator ($45.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a soft orange with a sparkling, golden sheen. It had medium coverage, which was buildable to semi-opaque coverage, with fine shimmer that managed to sparkle and reflect light well but did not read glittery on my skin. The texture was drier to the touch and didn’t feel as “luxe” to the touch as I would expect at this price point, but it looked fantastic applied and blended out with ease in practice. It’s more like a highlighting bronzer (for some skin tones) than strictly a highlighter. The brand doesn’t offer much insight into coverage, only with respect to the finish (“beachy glow”). It wore well for eight hours on me before fading slightly.

Chantecaille Bliss Cheek Shade ($44.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a light-medium pink with muted, warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. The powder seemed to have a pearly overspray, as after the initial layer, it seemed to be mostly matte. (As pretty as oversprays can be, it’s annoying when what lies underneath is matte or near-matte.)

Per the brand, the formula is described as having a “featherweight texture” that yields an “ultra-fine, creamy powder” that “adhere[s] flawlessly” and “blend[s] thoroughly for a natural flush.” The texture was silky, creamy, and finely-milled but didn’t feel dusty or kick up excess powder in the pan. It had good pigmentation, but the texture was forgiving that it could be built up by using a lighter hand or more feathery brush. On my skin, it looked mostly matte but natural, and it seemed to mix well with the natural oils on my face to give it a more natural, stain-like appearance. It wore well for eight and a half hours on me.

Chantecaille Year of the Dog Poudre Lumeire ($42.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a soft, ultra-light beige with subtle pearl that shifted very slightly from pink to lavender, a few multi-colored sparkles that translated to a lightly luminous sheen on the skin.

The formula is described as “sheer and buildable” with “long lasting” wear. It had more medium coverage that was buildable to mostly opaque coverage with two layers. The powder had an incredibly velvety, finely-milled, and silky texture that was lightweight while still having a substantial, creamier feel (not a thin or dusty powder at all), which made it enjoyable to use as the powder blended out effortlessly on cheeks and sat well without appearing flat or dry but did not emphasize my skin’s natural texture either. For someone who prefers their highlighters on the subtle end of the spectrum (but still wants a little oomph), this could fit the bill. It wore well for eight and a half hours on me before fading noticeably.

Chantecaille Mermaid Eye Color ($34.00 for 0.14 oz.) is supposed to be a “richly pigmented,” “high shine, crease-proof” formula that can be used “wet or dry.” I initially thought it was a cream eyeshadow when I bought it, but it is actually a loosely packed powder–not unlike Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Intense Eyeshadows or L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadows. The feel and performance was similar across the four shades. The formula was richly pigmented, smooth, blendable, and easy to apply on the lid, but the one area that was less impressive was wear–I did get noticeable creasing after six hours. I tried it over an eyeshadow primer (Smashbox 24-Hour), and it seemed to solve longevity issues, as it lasted until I took it off (12 hours later). They can be used wet or dry, but I did not really find the two methods to differ in terms of results or ease of application.

It was opaque applied both dry and damp, but the damp application made the base color appear deeper and more intense. The powder was smooth to the touch, dense, and adhered well to bare skin while still blending out nicely. On me, it wore well for six and a half hours before creasing. I didn’t notice a difference in coverage or application when applied dry as compared to damp. The texture was smooth, blendable, and dense as it loosened from the surface of the powder. Asking me to choose my favorite highlighter, by the way, is akin to making me choose favorites between (fur) children (if I had more than one).
