Morphe Live in Color (25L) Artist Palette ($20.00 for 1.41 oz.) is a new, limited edition palette where 100% of net proceeds are donated to The Trevor Project (between June and July 2019). In a sea of brands celebrating Pride, there are only a few that are hitting that charitable aspect on a high note, and Morphe is one of them. Additionally, they’ve also set up a way to donate directly to The Trevor Project at checkout (on any purchase) for $1, $3 or $5. On their website, there’s a detailed breakdown of the names used, which I thought was a nice touch, and they also have video stories from 12 LGBTQIA+ individuals.

The palette is sold out online, and I last saw Morphe comment via social media that it was still available in some stores. It doesn’t seem like they plan to do any restocks, so I don’t know that I’ll end up doing a full review, but I did try it a few times (and struggled) so I can share some of that initial thoughts. I had higher hopes for the palette, as it swatched quite well, but I found a lot of the shades difficult to work with and end up attempting and removing twice before producing the looks shown above (which aren’t perfect or where I wanted them to be at by any means).

There was a fair amount of fallout with the matte eyeshadows, while the shimmers are thicker/denser and were better applied with fingertips or wet brushes. I don’t think the palette works well with regular primer (like Urban Decay Primer Potion, MAC 24HR, NARS Smudgeproof, etc.), let alone over bare skin, and needs a tackier, thicker base like a white, cream eyeshadow or concealer. I had issues where the more I built up a matte shade, it eventually started to erase itself, and this also occurred when I tried to add a darker shade on top (like something to deepen the crease). I also experienced heavy fading (within four to five hours) with the mattes on their own. It was, unfortunately, a poor experience for me, even though it seemed rather promising when swatched.

You can always donate $5 or $10 to your favorite LGBTQIA+ organization directly, in case you thought about supporting this product but did want something of higher quality. On the other hand, if you use a white base and don’t mind fallout and some extra effort, enjoy it as well. I just didn’t want to share swatches, which look promising, without sharing that experience was wildly different (in the wrong direction).

The Best of Morphe Lit High Impact Highlighters

Morphe Lit High Impact Highlighter ($14.00 for 0.28 oz.) is a new, powder highlighter that’s available in six shades (at least, as of June ’18). I hope the brand will continue to extend the range with some cooler-hued highlighters and richer ones, too. A few shades (like Extra, Spark, and Stardust) had a softer sheen–more shine than shimmer–that I think might appeal to some, while other shades are intensely metallic and much more shimmery on the skin (like Mirage and Boom). The texture of the ones that weren’t quite as shimmery felt smooth, firmer and denser, but not stiff to work with, and I didn’t have any trouble applying or blending them out. The more shimmery shades felt creamier and denser but less firmly pressed in the pan, so it was even easier to pickup product with a typical, tapered highlighter brush. They wore well for eight to nine hours on me before fading.

Morphe Stardust High Impact Highlighter ($14.00 for 0.28 oz.) has a cooler, light beige base with pink-to-violet shifting shimmer. There was a noticeable duochrome shift on the skin, though it looked more pink and lavender than beige at most angles. The consistency was smooth, firmer, and thin compared to other shades in the range, but it was soft enough to still pick up well with a highlighting brush and blended out without issue on my skin. It had semi-opaque, buildable coverage and a moderate sheen rather than a frosted or metallic finish on my cheekbones. It didn’t emphasize my skin’s texutre at all. The color lasted well for eight hours before fading slightly.

The formula is supposed to have a "creamy" finish that is "weightless" that have an "explosive, prismatic effect." A few shades (like Extra, Spark, and Stardust) had a softer sheen--more shine than shimmer--that I think might appeal to some, while other shades are intensely metallic and much more shimmery on the skin (like Mirage and Boom). The texture of the ones that weren't quite as shimmery felt smooth, firmer and denser, but not stiff to work with, and I didn't have any trouble applying or blending them out. The more shimmery shades felt creamier and denser but less firmly pressed in the pan, so it was even easier to pickup product with a typical, tapered highlighter brush. They wore well for eight to nine hours on me before fading. One thing to note, I don't think the term "prismatic" is a good descriptor of these, a only one shade had true shift (Stardust was a duochrome), and I'm wondering if the brand understood the term before using it (as it's not a case where I can see an attempt at a duochrome--the range includes very standard highlighting shades).

Morphe Spark High Impact Highlighter ($14.00 for 0.28 oz.) is a soft, peachy gold with warm, orange undertones and a metallic sheen. It had semi-opaque, buildable color coverage with a smooth, blendable texture that was firmer in the pan compared to other shades in the formula but was still soft enough that it was blendable in practice. It yielded a soft sheen on my skin that was less overtly shimmery compared to the other shades in the formula as well, so for those who like less shimmer and more shine, this might be a better option. This shade wore well for eight and a half hours on me before fading noticeably.

Morphe Mirage High Impact Highlighter ($14.00 for 0.28 oz.) is a medium, coppery brown with warm, reddish undertones and a golden, metallic sheen. The highlighter had rich color payoff in a single layer, which applied evenly and smoothly on my skin. The consistency was soft, lightly creamy, and dense without being too firm or too thick in the pan. It blended out easily on my skin, and it didn’t accentuate my natural skin texture but was on the edge (to my eye) that it might be a concern for those with more textured skin. The color stayed on well for eight and a half hours on me.

Morphe Extra High Impact Highlighter ($14.00 for 0.28 oz.) is a soft gold with strong, warm undertones and a luminous sheen. The pigmentation was opaque, while the texture was smooth, firmer (so not powderiness), but I didn’t have any trouble picking up product with a brush and applying and blending it out on my skin. The more I buffed it into my skin, the stronger the sheen became, which I did find emphasized my skin’s natural texture a bit (at heavier coverage). The color stayed on well for eight and a half hours on me beffore fading noticeably.
