Urban Decay Beached 8-Pan Eyeshadow Palette ($34.00 for 0.32 oz.) contains six neutral-hued shades and two pops of blue. I liked the color scheme, though I found the actual shades and finishes more limiting than expected. I would have preferred if there had been a lighter, but quite metallic, shade instead of two mid-tone copper/bronze shades. The quality was good, and I think if you tend to like Urban Decay’s formula, you won’t find these lacking.

Salt

Salt is a soft yellow with warm undertones and a pearly sheen. The eyeshadow had opaque pigmentation that applied evenly to bare skin, but it was slightly powdery in the pan, so there was a touch of fallout if I wasn’t careful to tap away excess off my brush. This shade stayed on well for eight hours before it started to fade noticeably.

Heatwave is a rich copper with strong, orange undertones and a metallic sheen. It had nearly opaque color payoff in a single layer, which was opaque with two layers. The eyeshadow had a smooth, moderately dense texture with light creaminess that was easy to apply and blend out on my lid. Daybreak (Beached) is a faded, medium-dark copper with warm, orange undertones and a matte finish. The pigmentation was nearly opaque and definitely built to full coverage with a touch more layered on top. The texture was soft, velvety, though a little dry, and blended out well on my lid. 16th St is a rich bronze with subtle, warm red undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It had opaque pigmentation with a moderately dense texture but larger, looser sparkly bits that needed to be pressed and patted into the skin to go apply smoothly. This shade would work better applied with a dampened brush, which would minimize fallout and help it go on more smoothly with minimal effort. It wore well for eight hours with slight fallout.

Double Dip

Double Dip is a medium blue with neutral-to-warm undertones (as “warm” as a blue can be!) with a metallic sheen. The texture had more slip–felt like it had a fair amount of silicones in it–and applied better in pressing and pushing motions on the lid than with sweeping ones. It had good color payoff that was buildable, and it was opaque if applied with a dampened brush. This shade stayed on well for eight and a half hours on me.
