NARS Get It On Powermatte Lip Pigment ($26.00 for 0.18 fl. oz.) is a light-medium, rosy brown with warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. While completely opaque, the lipstick did not dry down for an hour–I took photos after a half hour–and remained lightly tacky for the first three hours of wear. The texture was thin but very fluid and substantial, so there was plenty of product and great color payoff in a single layer. It cracked at my deeper lip line (my lower lip) noticeably and had a tendency to fade a bit more unevenly compared to other shades. It wore well for four and a half hours and was neither drying nor hydrating.

The new formula is described as “liquefied pigments with infinite matte color saturation for lasting, weightless wear.” It’s supposed to have “full coverage in one swipe” that “dries down instantly” for “smudge-resistant, carefree wear.” The formula has a very fluid consistency that is thin, smooth, but not at all watery, and the majority of shades were nearly opaque or opaque in a single layer. The dry down started quickly but was forgiving as I maneuvered around the edges of the lips but remained a bit tacky when I pressed my lips together for over a half hour later, though as long as I did not press my lips together until five minutes post-application, the color did not lift. I have found the wear to be comfortable so far–non-drying–but not the longest-wearing nor the most budge-proof in liquid lipstick, as just sipping water, tea, or coffee caused color to transfer onto my cups. There was plenty of coverage, so it still lasted through drinking but did start to break down noticeably during a meal. Even just touching the color after a half hour of wearing it yielded color on my fingertips. The formula had a soft, vanilla scent but no discernible taste.

NARS Just What I Needed Powermatte Lip Pigment ($26.00 for 0.18 fl. oz.) is a muted, meidum-dark plummy brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had rich, opaque color coverage that applied evenly and was easy to maneuver along the edges of the lips. The texture was lightweight, thin but not watery, and dried down to a mostly matte finish (just a bit tacky). The color “cracked” very slightly at my deeper lip lines, though it felt flexible overall. It lasted for five hours and was non-drying.

The color payoff was nearly opaque, while the consistency was smooth, fluid without being watery (though it was very lightweight), and spread evenly across the lips. The dry down cracked slightly along my deeper lip lines, where the color separated along lip lines. It never fully dried down and was just a bit tacky, and while the color wasn’t movable, there was some light transfer at any given moment (whether I patted with a fingertip or sipped water). It wore well for five hours and was non-drying.
