Look: Pop of Color for Spring

This was a recent look I used to test out the wear of several products–the newer MAC eyeshadow quad (because it had a very stubborn shade in it), MAC’s Pearlglide Intense Eyeliner (because it was worth re-testing), and Becca Damselfly (had not tested the wear before). I haven’t worn either the lipstick or gloss on its own, so I haven’t finished testing either of those, but I thought they might work well with this look so at least I could get a lip swatch out of it!

You will need the following…

Eyes: NARS Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base (eyeshadow primer), MAC Colour Eyeshadow Quad (yellow, dark blue, gray, beige), MAC Undercurrent Pearlglide Intense Eyeliner (teal), Hourglass Film Noir Mascara (black)
Face: Chanel Vitalumiere (B30), Guerlain Les Voilettes Mineral Powder (03), Becca Damselfly Mineral Blush (orange-coral)
Lips: Make Up For Ever Folk Rouge Artist Natural (coral), Le Metier de Beaute Orange Juiced Sheer Brilliance Lipgloss (sheer tangerine)

For eyes, I applied a light layer of NARS Smudgeproof on the lid as an eyeshadow primer from lash line to brow bone with a firm, flat brush. First, I applied Self-Serve to the crease with a pencil brush and used a blending brush to attempt to diffuse the color. Next, I applied Colour Added all over the lid with a fluffy eyeshadow brush. I used another pencil brush to apply Pre-packaged to the outer corner and into the deep crease. To highlight the brow bone, I used Laudry Daze applied and blended with a fluffy blending brush. On the lower lash line, I applied MAC Undercurrent and then patted Colour Added on the inner half of the lash line and Pre-packaged on the outer half of the lash line. Finally, I applied a coat of Hourglass Film Noir to lengthen and thicken lashes.

For face, I applied Chanel Vitalumiere with a circular foundation brush. I blended Becca Damselfly onto cheeks with a dense blush brush and set with Guerlain Les Voilettes. For lips, I applied Make Up For Ever Folk and layered Le Metier de Beaute Orange Juiced on top.

Teal & Yellow Look with MAC Surf Baby

Quickie look I did to test out some of the new products from MAC’s Surf Baby collection.

You will need the following…

Cheeks: MAC Billionaire Bronze Powder (bronze)
Lips: MAC Bust Out! Lipstick (purple)
Brushes: 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 222 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pencil brush), 188 (small, circular stippling brush)
Substitutes: Surf USA = Shimmermoss; Sun Blonde = Goldmine + Arena; Short Shorts = Nylon; My Paradise = NYX Menage a Trois; Bust Out = Up the Amp

For eyes, start by applying Smudgeproof all over the lid and above the crease with the 242 to lay down your eyeshadow base. Lightly press Surf USA eyeshadow onto the lower half of the lid, going horizontally, with the 239. Then apply Sun Blonde eyeshadow on the upper half of the lid and above the crease with the 239. Apply Short Shorts eyeshadow underneath the arch of the brow, and then mix with Trench eyeshadow to highlight the brow bone. Next, apply Blue Moon liner on the lower lash line, and then smudge with Short Shorts eyeshadow. Coat lashes with Film Noir mascara to finish the look.

For cheeks, apply My Paradise blush on the apples of the cheeks and sweep towards the temple with the 116.

For lips, apply Bust Out! lipstick for a complementing lip.

Yellow, Orange, Coral with MAC Big Bounce & Fashion Flower

This is a look I did last week to test out the MAC Big Bounce eyeshadow for twelve hours. For reference, you really don’t need Fresh Daisy in this look. I initially wanted to use it in the inner corner (and you can see a very little bit), but it was just too stark against my skin tone so I covered most of it with Bright Sunshine.

You will need the following…

Eyes: MAC Reward Yourself Big Bounce Eyeshadow (olive green), MAC Fresh Daisy Eyeshadow (warm white), MAC Bright Sunshine Eyeshadow (bright yellow with shimmer), MAC Rule Eyeshadow (orange), MAC Free to Be Eyeshadow (coral), Burberry Trench Eyeshadow (highlighter), Urban Decay Bourbon 24/7 Liner (brown), Bare Escentuals Buxom Lash (black)
Face: Make Up For Ever HD Foundation (140), Burberry Pressed Powder (03)
Cheeks: MAC Springsheen Blush (pinky-peach)
Lips: MAC Ever Hip Lipstick (coral-pink), Cle de Peau #2 Lipgloss (pink-peach)
Brushes: 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 222 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pencil brush), 188 (small, circular stippling brush)
Substitutes: Fresh Daisy = Nylon; Ever Hip = Crosswires (not a great dupe!)

For eyes, start by applying Reward Yourself eyeshadow all over the lid and above the crease with the 242. Apply Fresh Daisy eyeshadow to the inner tearduct with the 239. Next, apply Bright Sunshine eyeshadow to the middle of the lid with the 239. Gently blend Rule eyeshadow to the outer third of the lid and into the crease with the 239. Darken the crease with Free to Be eyeshadow using the 222.

For cheeks, apply Springsheen blush on the apples of the cheeks and sweep towards the temple with the 116.

For lips, apply Ever Hip lipstick and top with #2 lipgloss for a complementing lip.

Dare to Wear Look: Yellow, Coral, Red

If there is one beauty lesson I cannot seem to learn is to remove mascara before doing a look! Argh! I always do this — have mascara on for some other purpose, decide to do a look, but don’t want to waste time (aka being lazy) removing mascara and then waiting for the area to dry (don’t want to apply eyeshadow base on top of remover… counterproductive!)… and then the mascara looks all clumpy and yuck at the end. No more being lazy!

I did upper lash liner because I know some will be disappointed otherwise if they saw this look sans the liner. I was just playing around with the combo last night anyway, so removing it after ten minutes wasn’t going to break my heart so it worked out Well, except for the minor swelling this AM, lol!

You can easily pair this look with a toned down coral, pink, or even nude lip. I went for the gusto and used Gimme That! but it’s not necessary.

You will need the following…

Eyes: NARS Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base (neutral eyeshadow base), MAC Going Bananas Eyeshadow (light yellow), MAC Free to Be Eyeshadow (pinky coral), MAC Louder, Please Eyeshadow (pinky red), Burberry Trench Eyeshadow (highlighter), Urban Decay Zero 24/7 Liner (black), MAC Blacktrack Fluidline (black), MAC Plushlash Mascara (black)

Substitutes: Going Bananas = Goldmine + Nylon; Louder, Please = Passionate; Gimme That! = Funtabulous

For eyes, start by applying Smudgeproof as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. Using the 239, apply Going Bananas eyeshadow on the lower half of the lid. Lightly blend Free to Be eyeshadow on the middle of the lid, horizontally, with the 239. Apply Louder, Please eyeshadow on the outer half of the crease with the 239 and lightly blend upwards. Blend Trench eyeshadow with the crease shade and highlight the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying Zero liner on the lower lash line and Blacktrack fluidline on the upper lash line with the 208. Finish by sweeping lashes with Plushlash mascara. Add false lashes if desired.

For cheeks, apply #15 Natural blush on the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116, then lightly pat Mary Lou-manizer on the cheekbones.

For lips, apply Gimme That! lipglass for a complementing lip.

Dare to Wear Look: Yellow, Green, Blue

I gave false eyelashes another try. I’m proud to say I was at least able to get them on decently without 2 hours lapsing! They’re not perfect (both are a little high), but I tried to compensate by dabbing Blacktrack between my lashes and the false lashes. I will say that it’s not noticeable from a normal viewing distance — but up close, you can kind of tell (even with my “fix”). But for me, I’m pretty satisfied, since normally, it takes me 45 minutes to get one on, and by that point, the makeup is either so messed up or I’m so defeated I give up. (And trust, I have watched a bajillion tutorials, know all the tips, and I still struggle.) I should have also used more glue, because after 10 minutes, the edges seemed to pull back a bit. I only wore this for twenty minutes or so, as my upper lash line was itching something fierce.

While I aspire to always be better at everything I do, inevitably, I don’t always get things perfect — but it’s part of the learning process, and I don’t mind sharing my journey with all of you!

Using the 239, apply Going Bananas eyeshadow on the inner third of the lid and pull upwards along the inner crease. Lightly blend Lime eyeshadow on the middle of the lid with the 239. Apply Zingy eyeshadow on the outer third of the lid with the 239 and lightly bring into outer crease. Next, apply Sassy Grass eyeshadow into the crease with the 226, lightly blending onto the outer lid. Blend Trench eyeshadow with the crease shade and highlight the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying Deviant liner on the lower lash line. Finish by sweeping lashes with Plushlash mascara. Add false lashes if desired.

For cheeks, apply Springsheen blush on the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116, then lightly pat Mary Lou-manizer on the cheekbones.

For lips, apply So Bad lipglass for a complementing lip.

Lightly blend Rajasthan (taupe) eyeshadow on the middle of the lid blended to the outer lid with the 239. Next, apply Daphne eyeshadow into the crease with the 226, lightly blending onto the outer lid. Blend Trench eyeshadow with the crease shade and highlight the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying #11L eyeliner on the lower lash line. Finish by sweeping lashes with Precious Cells mascara.

For cheeks, apply Douceur blush on the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.

For lips, apply Liquid Lurex lipstick first, and then layer Hi-falutin’ dazzleglass for a complementing lip.

This is just a totally fun look for summer. It’s shimmery and bright – it’s very simple, but it’s a little over the top and… just fun.

You will need the following…

Lightly blend Bio Green eyeshadow on the outer third of the lid with the 239. Next, apply Blue Calm eyeshadow into the crease with the 226, lightly blending onto the outer lid. Blend Gorgeous Gold eyeshadow with the crease shade very lightly, and then highlight the brow bone with Mylar eyeshadow. Bring everything together by applying Deviant liner on the lower lash line, then pat Blue Calm eyeshadow to smudge and blend out with the 219. Finish by sweeping lashes with Plushlash mascara.

For cheeks, apply Sun Kissed bronzer on the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116, then lightly pat Amber Diamond on the cheekbones.

For lips, lightly pat on Morange lipstick very, very sheerly, and then layer Easy Lounger lipglass for a complementing lip.
