Dolce & Gabbana Eva Glow Illuminating Powder

Dolce & Gabbana Eva Glow Illuminating Powder ($68.00 for 0.35 oz.) is a very pale, muted yellowed beige with a light dusting of silver sparkle. It looks mostly matte on the skin, in terms of finish, and at most, it gives the appearance that the area it applied is lighter. I couldn’t think of another highlighter that had a similar color or finish.

I can’t say that this really worked to illuminate on my skin tone at all–maybe if I looked very closely and there was a fair amount of light. I could barely detect it, which might make it more suitable as a finishing or setting powder, though when I attempted to use it that way, I looked ashy (so I think it would be a shade that might work better for very light to fair skin tones). The powder itself feels very soft and finely-milled but terribly powdery; there’s a lot of excess that gets kicked up as soon as the brush touches the surface, and it can easily look powdery on the skin if you’re not careful. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to achieve the “radiant glow” described by the brand. In order to test wear, I just layered more heavily on cheekbones so I could actually see it, and it was noticeably faded within six hours.

The version featured in this post is the Collector’s Edition, but the shade itself is available permanently for $51 (without the red lacquered cover/design on the powder).

Dolce & Gabbana Desert Bronzing Powder ($68.00 for 0.35 oz.) is a slightly muted, medium brown with warm, yellow undertones and a satin finish. Urban Decay Naked on the Run Bronzer (LE) is lighter. MAC Matte Bronze (LE, $70.00) is less yellow. Tarte Park Ave. Princess (P, $29.00) is darker. MAC Love, Rihanna (LE, $25.00) is warmer. Wet ‘n’ Wild Bikini Contest (P, $3.99) is darker. The version pictured in the post is the Collector’s Edition, though the color itself is available year-round in the permanent collection (without the red lacquered case and design on the powder itself) for $51. I believe the permanent version has no shimmer overlay, as the Collector’s Edition had a ton of bronzy shimmer (which I did my best to remove prior to swatching) on about half to two-thirds of the surface of the powder. It’s not too yellow or orange, but it is likely a better fit for warmer skin tones. The texture is soft and finely-milled but somewhat powdery, and it tended to sheer out more readily as a result. It had buildable coverage, but I felt like you had to be careful not to blend it too much or else it would disappear. It lasted for six and a half hours, which is on the shorter side for face products on my normal skin.

Dolce & Gabbana Fire (610) Classic Cream Lipstick

Here are the last three shades from the Dolce & Gabbana Classic Cream Lipstick ($33.00 for 0.12 oz.) range I have to share with you (you can check out part one here). The formula is supposed to be a long-wearing, richly-pigmented, and hydrating. In May, the brand added twenty new shades to its range for a total of forty-two. The formula is rose-scented but has no discernible taste for me. The consistency is creamy, light-to-medium in weight, comfortable to wear, and moderately moisturizing.

Dolce & Gabbana Fire (610) Classic Cream Lipstick ($33.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “fire engine red.” It’s a bold, brightened orange-red with a satin finish. The color coverage was fantastic with full, opaque color in a single pass. The consistency was creamy enough to apply the color evenly, but it didn’t slide around once on. This shade lasted for six hours on me and left a stain behind. It’s a gorgeous color, but this is one of those shades that many, many brands have done; there are a vast number of extremely similar shades — See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Dolce & Gabbana Devil (620) Classic Cream Lipstick ($33.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as an “orange red.” It’s a medium-dark, warm-toned red with orange undertones and a satin finish. This shade is darker and more muted in comparison to Fire. The formula was lightweight, comfortable to wear, and applied beautifully with rich, opaque color payoff. On me, it lasted for six and a half hours and left a stain behind. MAC Dangerous (P, $16.00) is more matte. MAC Scarlet Ibis (LE, $16.00) is more matte. MAC Lady Danger (P, $16.00) is more orange. Dolce & Gabbana Scarlett (625) Classic Cream Lipstick ($33.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “deep red.” It’s a medium-dark, cool-toned red with a satin finish. It was intensely pigmented and yielded full color coverage. The color applied well without tugging on the lips, and it didn’t bleed or feather on me (though I’m not particularly prone to either, so keep that in mind). This shade wore well for almost seven hours and left a stain behind. MAC Ruby (LE, $16.00) is similar. Too Faced Melted Ruby (P, $21.00) is darker, cooler-toned. Dolce & Gabbana Mandorla (125) Classic Cream Lipstick ($33.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “beige pink.” It’s a light-medium, muted peach with a creamy, natural finish. It had mostly opaque color coverage, and the consistency applied easily over the lips without tugging or dragging. It didn’t have too much slip, though, so the color stayed in place well. This shade lasted for four hours on me, which is average and not particularly long-wearing for me. Too Faced Country Star (P, $22.00) is glossier, slightly darker. Chanel Satisfaction (89) (P, $34.00) is pinker, sheerer. Chanel Charmeuse (142) (LE, $34.00) is more shimmery. MAC Close Contact (LE, $16.00) is a touch darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Dolce & Gabbana Petal (135) Classic Cream Lipstick ($33.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “neutral lilac rose.” It’s a medium, warm-toned rose with a natural sheen. It had nearly full color coverage, but you could see a shadow of my lip freckle. It glided on across the lips without dragging and felt comfortable to wear without being too slick. It wore well for four and a half hours on me. Givenchy Nude Guipure (106) (P, $36.00) is similar. Estee Lauder Dynamic (P, $30.00) is brighter. Marc Jacobs Beauty Flirt (144) (LE, $30.00) is lighter. NARS Descanso (LE, $25.00) is warmer. NARS Sex Machine (P, $25.00) is pinker, more matte. MAC Shy Shine (P, $16.00) is lighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Dolce & Gabbana Dahlia (320) Classic Cream Lipstick ($33.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “red wine.” It’s a deep, dark berry-red with subtle cool undertones and a satin finish. It had rich, intense color payoff that applied well without settling into lip lines or feathering over time. The consistency was lightly creamy, so it had good glide, but it didn’t slip around once applied. This shade lasted for seven hours and left a stain behind, though neither are surprising given how rich and dark this shade is. MAC Primrose (LE, $16.00) is sheerer. Inglot #293 Lipstick Cream (P, $12.00) is glossier. Laura Mercier Myth (P, $24.00) is lighter, warmer. Givenchy Violine Precieux (312) (LE, $36.00) is lighter. Dolce & Gabbana Rubino Classic Cream Lipstick

Dolce & Gabbana Rubino Classic Cream Lipstick ($36.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “deep red.” It’s a medium-dark red with muted, brown-ish tones. It runs slightly warm, but it’s almost neutral against my skin tone (probably because I’m warm-toned). Chanel Audacieuse (134) (LE, $34.00) is pinker. NARS Hyde Park (P, $25.00) is more matte. MAC Prolong (P, $18.00) is darker. MAC Viva Glam I (P, $15.00) is warmer. MAC Deeply Adored (LE, $15.00) is darker. Make Up For Ever #44 (P, $19.00) is warmer. See comparison swatches.

It has a soft, luminous sheen with semi-opaque color. This shade had a lot of slip when applied, so the color moves around on the lip, which gave me slightly uneven color application towards the center of the mouth. I experienced very faint feathering after the fourth hour of wear–it lasted five and a half hours in total.

Topazio Classic Cream Lipstick ($36.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “golden amber-yellow.” It’s a semi-sheer to semi-opaque veil of gold shimmer and sparkle. There’s some color that gets aded, primarily giving my lip color a yellower, warmer, almost tangerine-like hue, but it’s mostly due to the high shimmer content in the product. MAC Ruffian Gold (LE, $15.00) is lighter. Guerlain Altoum (LE, $35.00) is lighter. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Triptych (P, $18.00) is brighter and more oapque. See comparison swatches.

It doesn’t apply evenly, unfortunately, and part of that is owed to how slippery the formula is; the sparkle and shimmer tends to overlap and clump together, which keeps it from being a more even dusting of color. Of course, this formula is supposed to be highly pigmented, and it’s definitely not that. Applied very sheerly and blended with a lip brush or finger tip, this might work under a more pigmented gloss (I’m thinking red). It wore three hours on me and was actually a bit drying.

Dolce & Gabbana’s Classic Cream lipsticks are supposed to have “bold color” and feel hydrating when worn. One thing worth noting is that the formula is heavily scented with rose and does have a slight rosy taste at times–I’m not particular sensitive to scented lip products, but it is one of the stronger fragranced lipsticks I’ve encountered (which you may love or may not). Both of these shades felt like they had more slip than other shades from the formula, though.

Dolce & Gabbana Smeraldo Classic Cream Lipstick

Dolce & Gabbana Smeraldo Classic Cream Lipstick ($36.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as an “ice-cold, luminous green.” It’s a cool-toned, emerald green with fine emerald green shimmer. Illamasqua Violate (P, $24.00) is cooler-toned. See comparison swatches.

The color payoff was sheer; no matter how many layers I attempted to apply, whether I used a lip brush or not, it was always sheer, streaky, and all in all, horrible. If Dolce & Gabbana are going to take the time to put out a green-hued lipstick and then charge $36 for it, the least they could do was pack it with pigment, least of all by making it apply smoothly (I would settle for mostly even at this point). The shimmer and color tended to bunch up, too, so it was streaky, crumbly, and patchy. The only nice thing I can say about this shade was that it was hydrating for the three hours it lasted for–it did stain my lips a sort of green-ish-gray. This is a product that made me see red as soon as I applied it, and I was just in total disbelief as to why they would let this go into production. The formula is rose-scented with a slight floral taste at times.

Dolce & Gabbana Ametista Classic Cream Lipstick ($36.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as an “bright purple.” Less bright purple, more fuchsia-tinted lavender with iridescent purple shimmer. NYX Castle (P, $4.00) is more lavender, less shimmery. NARS Tender Night (LE, $25.00) is similar but sheerer. MAC Pink Popcorn (LE, $15.00) is pinker. See comparison swatches.

Though both of these lipsticks are part of the Classic Cream range, and these specific shades are touted as “bold, rich color inspired by the stones they are named after” and neither of these fit the bill. Ametista is semi-sheer, and as it is closer to the natural lip color, the sheerness doesn’t look as patchy or streaky, but it’s not a lipstick that deposits color very evenly. It wears two and a half hours on me, though it was moisturizing while I wore it.

Bobbi Brown Black Navy is a deep, dark navy that almost looks purple.
Make Up For Ever #8K is a deep navy blue. It is a touch darker than Dolce & Gabbana #8.
bareMinerals Noon is a blackened navy blue. (LE)
Dolce & Gabbana #8 is a deep navy blue with a sheen. It is a bit lighter than MUFE #8K.
Estee Lauder Blackened Sapphire is a rich, blackened navy blue with a matte finish. (LE)
MAC Marine Ultra is a lighter, but a darker blue with more brightness than other shades here.
MAC Prussian is a navy blue with a purple tinge and a soft sheen.
MAC Blooz is a blackened navy blue with a hint of purple. It is very similar to Givenchy #14.
Givenchy #14 is a blackened navy blue with a hint of purple. It is very similar to MAC Blooz.
NARS Rue Saint-Honore is a dark navy blue with a soft sheen. It is a touch more intense compared to Dolce & Gabbana #8 and MUFE #8K.
YSL Oriental Blue #3 is a rich, navy blue with a matte finish. It is a touch lighter than La Prairie Midnight Blue.
Korres #9 is a teal-ish blue (looked navy blue in the pencil!). (DC)
La Prairie Midnight Blue is a rich, navy blue with a matte finish. It is a bit darker than YSL Oriental Blue.
Chanel Marine is a shimmering navy blue.

Urban Decay Binge is a lightened navy blue with a hint of purple; it is a bit lighter than the other navy blues here.
Tarina Tarantino Cute Robot is a rich navy blue over a blackened navy base. It is comparable to NARS Rue Saint-Honore and MAC Petrol Blue.
