Make Up For Ever Lustrous Shadow Palette ($49.00 for 0.60 oz.) includes 12 powder eyeshadows housed in a plastic tin. Inside, it includes a foam insert that holds the pans in the palette, and it was not particularly secure (if I turned it upside down, the insert and all the pans started dropping out).

I was caught off guard by the brand’s description of this year’s holiday palette, because it made several mentions of the formula being new: “newest innovation” and “unique formula” and “formulated with 25 percent more pigment” and “be the first to try this new formula.” I sent an email off to the brand about whether it truly is a new formula and if/when it would rollout, but upon an attempt to read through ingredient lists, the ingredient lists for M100 (matte black) and ME518 (gold) differed enough that it did seem like a new formula.

The colors, generally, lined up with the shades of the same number in the current Artist Shadow range, but there were new shades here and then the brand snuck in two shades that are actually blushes (matte red and plum). I have to go and do real comparisons for texture for the mattes, but these seemed like they might not be quite as powdery/silky but not to the point where blendability was sacrificed but rather less fallout. The shimmers did feel less dense, not quite as heavy on the silicones. The one shade that seemed to be inconsistent with the same numbered shade in the current range was ME840, as it was noticeably drier and significantly less shimmery/metallic.

Here’s hoping that the new formula is just as good, if not improved as they say, compared to the Artist Shadow one… particularly since Artist Shadow is one of the best formulas on the market, so I’m not even sure why they would change it.
