Midnight Fever

MAC Midnight Fever Dazzleshadow Duo ($22.00 for 0.10 oz.) features two shades of Dazzleshadow, which is supposed to be an “eyeshadow with rich, stay-true pigments that impart a beautiful, twinkling sheen” that has “minimal fallout.” One of the shades–Let’s Boogie–is part of the permanent range and can be purchased individually for $18. The palette contains two full-sized eyeshadows, though, so it is a great value if you like both shades. The Dazzleshadow works best with a damp brush or over an adhesive base, as it helps intensify the sparkling finish and ensure better adhesion. The only issue is that using them damp can make them harder to blend out, so my technique is to apply them damp when using as a lid color or deeply in the crease but then using the product dry to layer and diffuse the edges.

Sparkling Moment

Sparkling Moment is a deep purple with warm, brown undertones and lots of mauve, purple, and copper flecks of shimmer and sparkle. It had good pigmentation applied dry (I also swatched it wet just for reference but not for testing) and was fairly blendable. The consistency was soft, loosely packed in the pan, and had a bit of fallout during application and during wear. It wore well for seven hours on me before fading.

The formula is supposed to have "rich, stay-true pigments" that have a "twinkling sheen" with "minimal fallout." I didn't see it state that the formula could be used wet, but my experience is that it definitely can and often is preferable to apply the shades with a dampened brush to get richer coverage and smoother application. Some shades, however, work well on their own (pigmented, blendable, fairly long-wearing), and they have minimal to light fallout depending on the shades--the chunkier the sparkle, the more likely there is of greater fallout. The texture is soft, sometimes a little drier to the touch, but most shades are blendable.

Let's Boogie

Let’s Boogie is a deep gray with subtle, warm undertones and flecks of chunky silver and gold glitter. The texture was looser in the pan and did not feel as smooth to the touch as it featured chunkier sparkle/glitter particles in it. Applied dry, it was semi-sheer but buildable to semi-opaque coverage, so this was one that I felt really needed to be applied over an adhesive base or used with a dampened brush to get true-to-pan color. However, it was a lot harder to blend and diffuse the edges that way, so I would use the product dry along edges for blending the color out. On me, it wore well for six and a half hours with some fallout.
