Dior Pied de Poule (096) 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette ($60.00 for 0.21 oz.) For fall, Dior’s “reinvented” their 5 Couleurs’ palettes with five new color combinations. I bought Pied de Poule (096) as it looked like an interesting mix of smoky, fall shades. The palette was decent but not a favorite for me due to inconsistent pigmentation in the shades. In general, the eyeshadow formula felt thin and drier, though the blue and green shades were less dry (the blue felt soft and buttery–it was a bit of a tease since that was the first I swatched!).

Pied de Poule #1 is a dark, smoky blue with gray and a frosted finish. It’s almost a blue-teal because of the muted quality of the color. It had excellent color payoff, and it was the best performing shade in the palette as the texture was soft, dense, and buttery. It wore well for nine hours before fading. NARS Giove (P, $29.00) is lighter, bluer. Too Faced Heavy Metal (P, $16.00) is darker, less shimmery. theBalm #17 (P, $6.50) is lighter. Makeup Geek Ocean Breeze (P, $5.99) is lighter. Dior Cosmos (281) (P, $30.00) is a cream product. Tom Ford Beauty Cobalt Rush #4 (P) is less shimmery. Urban Decay Occupy (LE, $18.00) is lighter, more shimmery. Pied de Poule #2 is a sparkling, light-medium gold with lighter gold sparkle and shimmer. It had semi-opaque color coverage, and the texture was thin and a little dry. The color wore well for almost eight hours, but there was noticeable fall out after six hours of wear. Makeup Geek Bling (P, $5.99) is less sparkly. Clarins The Essentials #2 (LE) is darker. Dior Golden Flower #2 (LE) is less sparkly. Tarina Tarantino Taurella (LE) is less sparkly. theBalm C1 (LE, $16.00) is less sparkly. Disney by Sephora Charming (LE) is less sparkly. Pied de Poule #3 is a medium-dark black with a matte finish. It had semi-sheer pigmentation, and the texture was a bit dry, a little powdery–not really stiff, just thin and dry. On me, there was slight fading after seven and a half hours of wear. As it is a more basic shade, it is similar to a lot of other black eyeshadows with little difference (mostly pigmentation with respect to this particular shade) — see comparison swatches / view dupes.

Pied de Poule #4 is a blackened burgundy with multi-colored sparkle over a matte finish. This shade was very dry, so it yielded sheer color payoff and was harder to blend on the skin. The sparkle did apply to the lid, but a lot of it fell out within five hours of wear. It’s such a dark color that it ends up looking more like a black eyeshadow than one with purple tones–but if you have pink-toned skin, you may see the nuance better. Pied de Poule #5 is a rich, earthy green with warm, olive brown undertones and a soft, frosted finish. It had good pigmentation, and the texture was a little dry but blendable and fairly easy to work with. The color wore well for eight and a half hours on me before fading. theBalm #30 (P, $6.50) is lighter. Charlotte Tilbury Smoky Emerald (P) is a cream product. Makeup Geek Kryptonite (P, $6.99) is lighter. Urban Decay Stash (LE, $18.00) is a touch lighter. Dior Bonne Etoile (384) #1 (LE) is a smidgen warmer and lighter.
