Lipstick Queen Mornin’ Sunshine Lipstick ($25.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a medium-dark pink with subtle, warm undertones and a natural finish. It had semi-sheer color that looked more like a lip stain than a lipstick applied.

It’s supposed to give a “wash of happy color” (which is described as “Yellow [that] turns to sheer coral on the lips”) that is “super moisturizing and long-lasting.” The consistency was lightweight, thin without feeling clingy, and glided across the lips without tugging. It was comfortable to wear, moderately hydrating, and lasted for four and a half hours on me.

Despite looking green in the tube, much like a frog transforms into a prince, this green transforms into a pink–clever in a way, though if you were hoping for green, you’re looking at the wrong option! The formula is supposed to be sheer, hydrating, and long-wearing as it turns to a “pink tint.” The brand does mention that it “can vary in color from pomegranate to rose, depending on your skin’s unique pH.” It had sheer, even coverage that noticeably tinted the lips with a light shine. The consistency is lightweight with moderate slip and is on the thin side, though it doesn’t hug and the color wears for four and a half hours before it starts to fade away. The formula was hydrating and comfortable to wear. It seemed to be unscented to me.

Lipstick Queen Silver Screen Lipstick ($50.00 for 0.12 oz.) is supposed to be pigmented, hydrating, long-wearing, and have a “wet-look” for finish. They’re fairly pigmented, wear long, feel somewhat hydrating, and have a glossy (or wet) finish. The consistency of the lipsticks is thin, and they don’t feel stiff when applied, but they almost need to “melt” a little to glide on really nicely. They are mint-scented but don’t have a noticeable minty tingle except for the first couple of minutes of wear.

Lipstick Queen Play It Silver Screen Lipstick ($50.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a brightened fuchsia pink with cool, blue undertones and a glossy shine. It had semi-opaque color coverage that went on fairly evenly–it appears almost like a stain with the translucency it has. The color wore well for five hours and felt hydrating. It had mostly opaque pigmentation, and again, this one almost looks a bit like a stain. The consistency was less creamy compared the other two shades I tried. This shade lasted for five hours on me and was slightly hydrating. Guerlain Rouge Kiss (325) (P, $37.00) is lighter. MAC Fashion Trip (LE, $22.00) is more orange. Lipstick Queen See Me Silver Screen Lipstick ($50.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a lightened, peachy-orange with warm undertones and a glossy sheen. It had opaque color coverage–surprisingly more pigmented than the other two!–and had a creamier, easier-to-apply texture. The color lasted for four and a half hours and was nicely hydrating. MAC Style Approved (LE, $22.00) is darker, less glossy. Tom Ford Beauty Sweet Spot (05) (LE, $49.00) is pinker. Givenchy Mandarine Bolero (304) (P, $36.00) is darker, redder. Hot on the heels (and we mean high heels!) of Velvet Rope comes Silver Screen, the sexiest, sassiest lipstick to date from Lipstick Queen. Founder Poppy King explains “While Velvet Rope paid homage to Hollywood glamour with its rich velvet finish, Silver Screen pays homage to its sassiness. Its rich yet wet feel is inspired by the slinky ladies of the silver screen. If this lipstick could walk it would sashay. My most vixen lipstick to date!”

The term ‘silver screen’ comes from the actual silver content embedded into the material that was used in the early days of the motion picture industry. The screens had a highly reflective surface that was extremely flattering to the women up there on the screen. The texture of the new Silver Screen lipsticks has been designed to have this exact same effect on each and every woman wearing it; enshrine her look with a flirty and sultry finish.

This glossy, wet-look effect is achieved with a high percentage of an innovative new active ingredient Pomegranate Sterols. This 100% natural active, derived from the pomegranate fruit, improves the barrier-function of the lips, keeping them soft and hydrated for longer, whilst also ensuring the intensely glossy look and feel of the lipstick. The formulation is further enhanced with anti-oxidant vitamin E, moisturizing plant oils, beeswax and skin-perfecting vitamin A, which ensure lips stay nourished and comfortable all day long. And just as with Velvet Rope, Silver Screen contains a high quality peppermint oil which releases its invigorating natural scent upon application.

The palate is a kaleidoscope of slinky siren shades ranging from a magnetic deep purple to sexy watermelon, to flirty nudes and a seductive wine. Each shade derives its name from an iconic line in a classic movie.

Lipstick Queen Jungle Queen Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “papaya coral.” It’s a brightened, medium orange-red with warm undertones and a soft shine. Illamasqua Soaked (P, $26.00) is more orange. Bite Beauty Blood Orange (LE, $24.00) is more matte. Tom Ford Beauty Firecracker (06) (LE, $49.00) is a touch darker. The formula is supposed to be “semi-sheer” and moisturizing with a “hint of luminescence.” It had mostly opaque color coverage, and the only way I could achieve “semi-sheer” color is if I only applied color to the bottom lip, then pressed my lips together, and used a lip brush to even it out–which is really how one might get sheerer coverage out of any fuller coverage formula. For some, this might be a happy accident, for others, it may make this shade to bold or rich. The consistency is lightly creamy, a bit emollient, so it glides on easily and applies the color evenly, but it’s not thick or heavy on. It lasted for five hours on me, and it left behind a soft stain, though it was just lightly hydrating for me.

Lipstick Queen Let Them Eat Cake Lipstick

Lipstick Queen Let Them Eat Cake Lipstick ($45.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “delicate lilac … shot through with sugary sparkles.” It’s a light-medium, pink-lilac with gold shimmer and sparkle. The base color is semi-sheer, while the amount of shimmer makes the overall result more semi-opaque. Revlon Cotton Candy (P, $7.49) is sheerer, less glittery. NYX Castle (P, $4.00) is less glittery, more opaque, darker. Chanel Charme (P, $34.00) is less shimmery. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

The formula is supposed to be comfortable to wear, hydrating, and have a “soft focus” effect due to the finish. It can be worn alone or applied over your favorite lipstick as a “top coat.” The texture of the lipstick is similar to other highly metallic, highly frosted formulas; it glides on without tugging, but there’s a slight feel of the texture from the amount of shimmer/sparkle. I wouldn’t describe it as gritty or rough, but it’s not perfectly smooth or creamy. What’s remarkable about the formula is that it doesn’t dry out lips, as high frosts often do, though it is only a little hydrating over the long-haul. The sparkle doesn’t migrate too noticeably, but there were a few stray gold flecks outside of the lip after the four hours it lasted. The sparkles can sometimes catch on the natural lip, so I would recommend exfoliating prior to give it a smoother surface to adhere to. Worn, it’s very sparkly, reflective, and catches the light beautifully, but it’s not the most comfortable lipstick/formula I’ve come across. The packaging has a lot of heft to it, but all of the heft is in the case/top, while the actual tube component feels very light and plastic-like. I didn’t notice any scent or taste to the formula.

Lipstick Queen 15 Minutes of Fame Pop Art Gloss ($16.50 for 1.45ml/0.05 oz.) is a semi-opaque medium-deep red with more of a cool-tone to it. Pop Art Glosses are non-sticky, shimmer-free, and they feel lightweight on the lips. The formula is hydrating and wears well and goes on pretty even. The gloss applicator is a twist-up brush-type, so that may or may not be your cup of tea. I like the color, which is a semi-opaque shade of red that’s deep enough to be bold, but not bright enough to be too much.

The Scarlet Season: Lipstick Queen 9 Minutes of Fame Pop Art Gloss

Lipstick Queen 9 Minutes of Fame Pop Art Gloss ($16.50 for 1.45ml/0.05 oz.) is a semi-opaque medium red gloss. It comes in a twist-up brush-type applicator, which isn’t my favorite delivery method (it’s the germaphobe in me), but the color is really pretty. It almost seems like it enhances your natural lip color in such a way that it doesn’t really look like you’re wearing a lipstick or gloss — it’s like the color becomes your lips, and then it’s just glossiness after that. It wears well and feels hydrating! It’s non-sticky, contains no shimmer, and is pretty lightweight.

I do have to mention that this product seems awfully pricey, because a typical gloss (e.g. MAC Lipglass) has 4.2ml for $14… this is not even half as much.
