Sephora Cappuccino (02) Ultra Shine Lip Gel ($14.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a light-medium, orange-peach with light beige shimmer and sparkle. It had semi-sheer color coverage that did pull into lip lines but the color portion looked even. I think this is better suited for layering to avoid the obvious color gathering in the lip lines. Sephora Nude Alert (08) Ultra Shine Lip Gel ($14.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark coral with copper and gold shimmer. It had semi-opaque color payoff that applied evenly and smoothly. The shimmer is fine and gives it an almost metallic-like sheen at times, as there is quite a bit of it. Sephora Cherry Blossom (11) Ultra Shine Lip Gel ($14.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a translucent pink. Sephora lists it as “clear,” though their descriptions seem to be more of the finish type (shimmer, clear, etc.), because “clear” lines up with all of the very jelly-like glosses that are definitely sheerer but almost all have a tint of some sort (which is confusing as well as makes it harder to rate appropriately). It had a light-medium thick, more gel-like consistency (almost like petroleum jelly with less creaminess and more weight). It seems to make my natural lip color appear a smidgen darker (which is what a lot of glossy balms do) and cooler in overall tone, but it is pretty much a clear gloss. It lasted for three hours on me. Benefit Icebreaker (P, $16.00) is less pigmented (95% similar). ColourPop Bibbidi (LE, $10.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Formula Summary: It is supposed to be “inspired by gel nail polishes” with an “ultra-light” texture and hydrating formula. The range as of fall 2015 seems to range from clear to mostly opaque with a slight translucency that gives them a squishy, jelly-like look with the average shade between semi-sheer and semi-opaque. They’re lightweight, comfortable to wear, and mostly non-sticky. I haven’t noticed a taste, but there is a sweet vanilla, almost caramel-like scent (it is a little on the synthetic side, but I don’t notice the scent when I’m wearing it). Despite having a smoother, mostly non-sticky feel, the formula has decent wear time (three to five hours) and is hydrating. All in all, it’s a nice formula that outdoes a lot of the more recently released new gloss formulas on the market–and at a fraction of the cost–when the shade is more pigmented, but when it is sheerer (especially the lighter shades), there is often settling into lip lines. One thing to note, though, is despite seeming like quite a big tube of gloss, it contains only 0.11 fl. oz. It has an interesting hourglass-shaped applicator, where it is curved inversely and can fit the curve of the lip.
