Must-Have MAC Pro Products

About a year and a half ago, I compiled a list of MAC Pro Products, which might be helpful if you’re not sure what products are part of the Pro range. When I was browsing last night, I didn’t see any way to look specifically for Pro products! As of this AM, there is! Yay!

Some products are definitely designed for the prosumer or professional makeup artist, but there are plenty of products and shades that are great for consumer use. And of course, while you might not find Chromacakes essential in your everyday routine, many products are certainly fun to play with.

Worth a mention is that not all Pro products are eye/lip safe (true with even some consumer products!), which means you might be eyeing that red pigment, wanting to use it on your eyes, and it will come with a warning label that says it is not recommended for usage on the eye.  Just a heads up!

Mother’s Day Gift Guide and Gift-Giving Tips

If you haven’t yet finished your Mother’s Day gift shopping, here are some last minute suggestions and tips and tricks (which really apply to any gift giving occasion and recipient).

• Watch out for hints. They may not even be genuine hints as far as the recipient goes, but they can clue you in on things the person might want but not feel willing to purchase.  My mom mentioned she really wanted more non-stick cooking mats a month or so ago, and I kept an eye out for them (and did manage to find some on sale!).
• Think about their hobbies.  Often, hobbies are one of the ways we really enjoy ourselves–away from the hum drum of work, daily routine, and errands.  My fiance’s mom loves jewelry; both generally as a gift, but she’s also known for taking apart jewelry and creating a new piece out of it.  I know I can’t go wrong with giving her jewelry or jewelry-making supplies.
• What’s something they love but feel frivolous buying?  I often think gifts should be a bit of an indulgence; something the person wouldn’t buy for themselves but really wants.  I always toy with the idea of buying my mom La Mer, because she absolutely loves it (go figure, she was never and still isn’t into makeup/beauty but is in love with La Mer), but I keep making her try other supposedly good moisturizers instead.  Shaun’s mom has her favorite perfume, which she wears almost daily, but it’s a little pricey, so her boys always get it for her on Mother’s Day.
• When in doubt, ask for a list.  Part of me loves to surprise people, but the part that would rather give someone a gift they’d love than one I’d think they love but they don’t end up loving.

My Picks for Gifts

Foundation (maybe tinted moisturizer), filling in brows, a light blusher (something like Benefit Sugarbomb), and maybe a coat of mascara. I’ll try to toss a lipstick or gloss into my bag for later!

MAC Eyeshadow Swatches – Neutrals (Part 2)

More neutral MAC Eyeshadows! There will be one more set of neutrals, and then I only have the grays/blacks after that.

Grain is a soft, warm beige with a satin finish. It’s like a lighter version of MAC Arena.
Orb is a soft, pink-peach with a satin finish. It is pinker than Urban Decay Virgin. It is similar to Inglot #397, but it has a softer look and therefore looks darker/more pigmented.
Naked Lunch is a warm, peach-beige with a frost finish. Chanel Emerveille is similar in color.
Hush is a peach-pink with a subtle iridescence and frost finish.
Jest is a light-medium peach with a frost finish. theBalm Luscious Lani is a touch lighter.
Say Yeah is an apricot pink with a golden shimmer-sheen. It has a veluxe pearl finish, and it was a limited edition shade.
Ricepaper is a soft, warm yellow champagne with a frost finish. Inglot #393 is the closest but it has a more reflective finish.
Retrospeck is a paled gold with a lustre finish. It has a slightly gritty texture. Milani Beach Sand is slightly similar.
Femme-fi is a warm, yellow-toned white with a veluxe pearl finish. theBalm Devilish Danielle is similar, slightly more reflective.

Hush has sheerer color than one would expct, while Retrospeck has glitter in it, so it has a grittier texture and is prone to fall out. The other shades were true-to-color with good color payoff and smooth textures overall.

MAC Eyeshadow Swatches – Neutrals (Part 1)

• Back with more MAC Eyeshadows–almost through the permanent shades I have–and this set features neutrals, including browns as well as beiges.
• Honesty is a soft coppered brown with chunky gold and copper glitter. It has a lustre finish. It’s not the chunkiest lustre I’ve come across, but it doesn’t make my list of must-haves. Urban Decay Blaze would be a good alternative.
• Patina is grayish-brown (almost taupe) with a pale, golden sheen. It has a frost finish.
• Wedge is a warm-toned, medium brown with a matte finish. It is warmer and brown compared to MAC Omega but softer than MAC Cork.
• Soba is a yellow-ed brown with a subtle golden sheen and satin finish. It’s yellower than Wedge, and the finishes are different, but they are similar.
• Era is a darkened beige with a champagne sheen. It has a satin finish. It is lighter (and shimmery) than Burberry Almond.
• Malt is a pinked brown-beige with a matte finish. It’s a bit powdery. Inglot #344 is similar.
• All That Glitters is a lightened copper-gold with a veluxe pearl finish.The texture is rather gritty for a veluxe pearl.  Urban Decay Blaze is similar.
• Bisque is a soft beige with a matte finish. Inglot #390 is similar.
• Brule is a soft, warm beige with a satin finish.
• Blanc Type is a pale white-beige with a Matte2 finish. Inglot #355 is similar but may turn more peach on some complexions.

Eyeshadows like Honesty and All That Glitters–tend to have chunkier textures with glitter fall out.  I will buy a new All That Glitters, even though mine was brand new as of a month ago, since many of you say I have a bad batch, but please give me some time to do so. Shades like Bisque, Brule, and Blanc Type are very light, and I know that on me Blanc Type photographs ashy (on me) when I’ve used it as a highlighter. Patina is a fun shade, because it’s almost like a neutral duochrome, and I couldn’t think of a real dupe for it.
