bareMinerals The Glass Beach Eyeshadow Quad ($30.00 for 0.17 oz.) is a new, limited edition set of shades for summer. I came across this on QVC when I bought The Nude Beach palette. According to bareMinerals, it was inspired by the coast of Northern California. All four shades had a muted quality to them, which made them appear more muddied applied to the lid than anticipated, and the somewhat powdery texture of the shades seemed to compound this problem. It’s an interesting set of shades, but the texture of these really needs the help of a primer, which would help the color adhere better to the skin. I packed and packed Sea Glass on like no tomorrow but really couldn’t get it to appear as it does in the pan. bareMinerals’ Ready formula is one of my favorites, because it is very, very pigmented, applies beautifully without primer, and wears long without fading or creasing, but this quad fell so short compared to other palettes and quads.

Pacific Sands is described as a “sunlit sand.” It’s a light, yellowed beige with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had good color payoff, but the texture was slightly powdery. This shade wore well for nine hours before fading. Kat Von D Entomology (P) is yellower. Divergent Altruistic Almond (LE) is similar. Urban Decay Bleach (LE, $18.00) is lighter. Sea Glass is described as a “jade shimmer.” It’s a medium-dark, muted green-gray with a matte finish. It seemed to have good color payoff when I swatched it, but the powdery texture made it difficult for it to actually stay on the skin–it was very prone to sheering out with the merest touch of the brush. It wore well for eight and a half hours before fading. bareMinerals Velvet Emerald (LE, $14.00) is much greener and less gray (not really dupe, but it was the only other closest one besides Earth!). bareMinerals Earth (P) is darker. Golden Coast is described as a “radiant copper.” It’s a muted, yellow gold with a soft, frosted finish. It had fairly good pigmentation, but the texture was a bit thinner and less buttery compared to most shades in the Ready formula. This shade stayed on without fading for nine hours. This shade doesn’t blend as well with the other three shades, possibly because of the difference in finish. Tarina Tarantino Mr. Gold (P) is similar. MAC Gilded Night #2 (LE, $21.00) is brighter. Urban Decay Strike (LE, $18.00) is similar. Urban Decay Blitz (LE, $18.00) is more shimmery, cooler-toned. MAC Sweet & Sour #1 (P, $21.00) is more shimmery. MAC Barefoot (LE, $15.00) is darker. Giorgio Armani #1 Spring 2012 #3 (LE) is brighter, warmer. Chanel Blazing Gold (LE, $28.50) is lighter. bareMinerals Remix (LE) is slightly brighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Tide Pool is described as a “shimmering coal.” It’s a dark, cool-toned brown with a gray edge and a satiny finish. It had rich color payoff, and the texture was soft without being powdery while wearing for almost ten hours before showing signs of fading. Too Faced Dolly (P, $16.00) is warmer. bareMinerals Perspective (LE) is slightly warmer. Urban Decay Smokeout (LE, $18.00) is cooler-toned, more shimmery. MAC Beluga (LE, $15.00) is darker.
