Urban Decay Sheer Revolution Lipstick ($20.00 for 0.09 oz.) is supposed to have “sheer, pigmented color” with a “high-shine finish” and “buttery-smooth application.” The whole “sheer, pigmented color” bit is expanded further in the press release as wanting to design a formula that was “sheer (yet still pigmented!)” color.” It’s packaged similarly with the Sheer Revolution shades having a light purple coloring instead of gunmetal. They feel like a slightly thicker lip balm, so they glide on as they warm and melt against the lips without dragging, but they’re thinner and less creamy compared to the original formula. There’s a slight tackiness to them initially, but it seems to go away. The colors also tended to melt (almost like self-leveling) on the lips, so some of the shades looked better an hour into wear than they did initially. For me, they weren’t hydrating, but they weren’t drying either. The color payoff is more semi-opaque–sheer in the sense that there’s translucency there that allows the natural lip color to come through but still more pigmented than not (which does seem to be what Urban Decay was going for).

Urban Decay Sheer Rapture Sheer Revolution Lipstick ($20.00 for 0.09 oz.) is described as a “sheer dusty-rose.” It’s a medium-dark, rosy plum with cool undertones and a soft sheen. It had semi-opaque color payoff that applied evenly and wore well for four hours. I liked this one the best of the three reviewed in this post, because it was really easy to apply and required no fussy to get even color. It was also the one shade that seemed to improve the look of my lips once on (an illusion of smoothness). Chanel Etourdie (98) (P, $35.00) is shimmery. Givenchy Rose Plumetis (207) is more opaque. Urban Decay Sheer Ladyflower Sheer Revolution Lipstick ($20.00 for 0.09 oz.) is described as a “sheer rose-pink.” It’s a muted, medium pink with subtle, cool undertones and a light shine. It had semi-sheer to semi-opaque pigmentation that went on fairly evenly. The thinner, but clingy, texture made my lips look less hydrated than they were (or at least, felt). This shade lasted for four hours on me. Urban Decay Ladyflower (LE, $22.00) is cooler-toned. Chanel Viva (95) (LE, $35.00) is more shimmery. MAC Pheromonal (LE, $17.00) is brighter. Givenchy Hibiscus Exclusif (302) (P, $36.00) is lighter, warmer. Guerlain Geraldine (77) (P, $51.00) is glossier, lighter. Bite Beauty Vigne (P, $24.00) is cooler-toned, brighter. Urban Decay Sheer Anarchy Sheer Revolution Lipstick ($20.00 for 0.09 oz.) is described as a “sheer fuchsia.” It’s a medium, cool-toned pink with blue undertones and a light shine. It had semi-opaque color coverage that gave lips a rather tinted look. I felt like it wasn’t quite even when I applied it, no matter how I tried to smooth the color into place. The color wore well for four hours on me. MAC Catharina (P, $23.00) is more opaque, less glossy. MAC Bold Spring (P, $22.00) is lighter. Bite Beauty Vigne (P, $24.00) is lighter. Tom Ford Beauty Incorrigible (08) (LE, $49.00) is brighter. MAC Heavenly Hybrid (LE, $16.00) is slightly darker. MAC Feeling Amorous? (LE, $20.00) is less cool-toned.
