Natasha Denona Eyeshadow ($29.00 for 0.08 oz.) comes in 66 shades with four distinct finishes (Matte, Duo-Chrome, Metallic, and Sparkling). There’s not a lot of different between the latter three finishes, as they’re frosted to metallic. According to the brand, the eyeshadow formula is supposed to have “full, rich and intense color that won’t fade out, be “long-lasting,” and smooth. I’m working my way through the range now, and I have tested a little less than half (but I have chosen some selectively–the biggest troublemakers, different finishes). The majority of the shimmery shades were very pigmented with a soft consistency that was something just right and other times a little prone to crumbling/loosening in the pan, while the mattes were smooth but quite powdery, which resulted it color that didn’t adhere to bare skin as readily. The texture of most shades is soft, blendable, and most of the shimmery shades I’ve tested applied well to bare skin. The wear was fairly consistent, but there was some variance from shade to shade (which didn’t seem related to finish). I think the matte eyeshadows performed better in practice as the color built-up well, but they are the weakest in the range. Some of the shimmery shades wore seven to eight hours on me while some that I have tried have creased after five to six hours. I have tried a few (not all) over primer (NARS Smudgeproof), which does help prevent creasing for longer (two to three hours longer), but they still wear shorter than other powder eyeshadows.

The eyeshadows can be purchased individually or else available across pre-made palettes (one that holds 10, two that hold 28 each, and 13 5-pan variations). If you’re interested in trying the brand’s eyeshadows, I think the 5-Pan Palette might be the way to go, as you don’t have to put down a lot all at once but still get more value than if you purchased them individually. The bigger drawback of the larger palettes is that they’re not really cohesive palettes; they seem to be just a large grouping of warmer vs. cooler shades. Here’s a breakdown of cost:

Cream (21S) is a light, golden beige with warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had semi-opaque color payoff that was buildable on the lid. The eyeshadow was soft, smooth, and not too powdery or too firm, which made it easy to work with and apply as it blended out well. The color started to crease after seven hours on me. The color started to crease after six and a half hours of wear, unfortunately, which made it a shorter-wearing eyeshadow (on average) for me.
