Marc Jacobs Dew You Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter ($44.00 for 0.80 fl. oz.) is a medium gold with warm, yellow undertones and a pearly sheen. The shimmer was fine enough that it didn’t read metallic when sheered out, but it was buildable enough that it could be nearly metallic when layered on the skin. Overall, the pigmentation was semi-sheer to semi-opaque, depending on application method, but to get higher coverage, it would be best to apply one layer, allow that to dry, and then pat on additional product.

The formula is supposed to be a “gel-cream” that can be used on “the skin directly” or “added into” base products (like foundation or primer). It’s supposed to “build for the ultimate sheen.” That gel texture made it easy to spread without it sheering out immediately, but it also meant that one “pump” was far more product than one would need for spot highlighting (e.g. cheek bones, cupid’s bow, and so forth) and was more in line with what you might use to mix in with a base product. There was a very subtle coconut scent to it, but it wasn’t particularly sweet and was more toned down compared to the Coconut Face Primer. I had no trouble blending this product out on bare skin, over liquid foundation, or patted over powder highlighter. It wore well for nine hours on me as a standalone highlighter, and it did not impact the wear of my foundation (I used it with Tarte and Guerlain).

This was unexpectedly large–or conversely, unexpectedly cheap given the size–and can easily be used regularly for mixing with base products or all-over the body (in fact, you’ll want to in order to finish a bottle!). I think it is particularly spectacular mixed with body lotion or even dabbed and blended across shoulders and decolletage for an all-over glow. It actually seemed like a perfect mix between typical liquid highlighter (often quite sheer and subtle) and some of the more intense, metallic powder highlighters out there. That being said, the color and effect are easily duped by a number of powder products, so unless the gel-cream texture is something you’ve been looking for, you might have something like this in your stash.
