Marc Jacobs Beauty Spotlight Glow Stick Glistening Illuminator ($42.00 for 0.49 oz.) is a silvery beige with a hint of warmth and a pearly, dewy sheen. (It’s described as having a “balanced ratio of pearly gold and silver pigments,” which didn’t make me feel so nutty about thinking of it as a “silvery beige.”) It had sheer to semi-sheer coverage, which was somewhat buildable and amenable to layering, though it is touted as a “sheer” product, so the coverage level was as marketed.

It’s a cream-based highlighting formula that will work best for someone who prefers a glowing finish with soft pearl–enough of an effect that I wouldn’t say it was subtle (though it could be, if applied with a lighter hand or patted over with a dampened sponge) but it wasn’t metallic, frosted, or prone to emphasizing my skin’s natural texture. The formula dried down and didn’t remain wet or tacky to the touch, but it still retained a more skin-like glow that remained in force for a solid eight and a half hours. It applied well over bare skin or over liquid foundation (without disturbing or breaking it down more readily).
