Beauty and the Beast

LORAC Beauty and the Beast Cheek Palette ($28.00 for 0.60 oz.) includes three blushes and one highlighter. The palette features the brand’s Light Source Illuminating Highlighter and Color Source Buildable Blush formulas. The highlighter formula is supposed to be buildable and luminous, but my experience with them was that they were quite pigmented–soft enough to blend them out or use a bit less for sheerer coverage, just not what I’d actually describe as buildable. As you might guess from the name, the blush is supposed to be buildable, but only one of the blushes was on the buildable side while the other two were quite pigmented. If you like your cheek colors to be more pigmented, the palette would work well for you, especially as all four shades were blendable, easy to use, and wore for seven and a half to eight and a half hours for me.

See Beyond is a medium, rosy pink with warm undertones and a soft, pearly sheen. It had medium, buildable coverage (up to semi-opaque) with a soft, silky texture that was slightly dusty in the pan but sat well on the skin without appearing dry. The finish was luminous without emphasizing my skin’s natural texture, and the blush blended out easily. It wore well for eight hours on me before fading.

Fearless is a bright, medium gold with warm, orange undertones and a metallic sheen. It had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single layer (so not buildable as promised), which applied evenly to bare skin and blended out nicely. The finish was noticeably metallic on the skin but was shy of pore-emphasizing territory, thankfully! This shade stayed on well for eight hours.

Enchanted is a brighter pop of light-medium, pink-coral with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had a soft, silky texture that was slightly powdery in the pan but applied well and did not lose its intensity or coverage on the skin. It was very pigmented just using a typical blush brush and typical pressure, though a very light hand and a feathery blush brush would achieve lighter coverage if desired–it just did not have what I’d consider buildable coverage. This shade seemed to darken on my skin after five minutes or so (which was when I photographed it). It lasted for seven and a half hours on me.

The texture was smooth, almost cream-like, and had no powderiness. The shimmer level was noticeable on the skin but did not accentuate the look of my skin’s texture. The blush wore well for almost eight and a half hours on me.
