Hourglass Holiday 2017 Set Confessional Refillable Lipstick Set ($54.00 for 0.09 oz.) contains three lipsticks; it comes with one lipstick with full packaging and two refills. All three are full-sized, and the refills can be used without swapping them into the full case if desired. I’m a fan of the formula, which is more pigmented, hydrating, and comfortable to wear but find the amount of product per lipstick (0.03 oz.) to be hard to ignore.

Value

There are a few ways to assess the value, since the brand has their Confession lipstick available with full packaging ($34.00 each) and lighter, refill packaging ($22.00 each). For the purposes of value, I wanted to make it the most straightforward: one lipstick in full packaging and two in refill. They are full-sized in the set, so there was a total value of $78. If we looked at the equivalent in refill packaging only (since some may have no issue opting out of the full packaging), then the total value would have been $66 (I don’t think it would be remotely fair to consider three as full packaging since they are definitely not).

My One Desire

My One Desire is a medium, rosy pink with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had opaque pigmentation that applied evenly across my lips without tugging on them as I applied the color. The consistency was creamy and had a bit more slip than most shades I’ve tried in the formula, and I felt like this resulted in the color emphasizing my lip lines slightly. It wore well for four and a half hours on me and was hydrating.

The formula is supposed to have "creamy, saturated, longwearing color with a satin finish." It's a light-medium thick formula that was typically opaque with a lightly creamy texture that glided on without tugging but did not slide around while worn. The majority of shades had a natural to satin finish, and they lasted anywhere from four to seven hours with light hydration. The best performing shades were light to dark while the lightest and deepest shades weren't quite as consistent.

The lipstick can be purchased with the full packaging/applicator for $34 or as a refill-only for $22. The refill packaging is substantial enough that it is usable on its own, as there's a detachable base that the refillable cap clicks onto (with an audible click), but they are very slim--and that's not a surprise given they only contain 0.03 oz. making them one of the smaller lipsticks on the market. Slim lipsticks typically contain around 0.07 oz. of product and are usually smaller than the average standard lipstick tube (which tends to be between 0.10 and 0.12 oz.).

True Love Means

True Love Means is a light-medium, peachy coral with warm undertones and a cream finish. The color payoff was fantastic, but the texture had moderate slip and was harder to apply precisely to the lips. I could not keep the color from sinking into my lip lines either. It was comfortable and moisturizing to wear, but it wasn’t the most flattering shade in the range on my lips. This shade stayed on well for four hours.

You Are My is a soft, medium-dark plummy brown with warm undertones and a satin sheen. It had rich color coverage in a single layer, and the color applied evenly and smoothly on the lips without dragging. The texture was lightweight with enough slip to apply well but not feel slippery when worn. This shade wore well for five hours and was hydrating over time.
