Fenty Beauty Trophy Wife Holiday 2019 Set ($69.00 for 0.77 oz.) is a new, limited edition set that includes the original Trophy Wife highlighter along with three additional products inspired by that yellow-gold hue. All four products are full-sized, and they seemed consistent with the brand’s past releases. Aside from the gloss, the other three shades have a more glittering/sparkling finish, so be sure you’re a fan of that before diving into this set.

The set is available through the brand directly and will launch at Sephora on December 6th.

Trophy Wife

Trophy Wife (Gloss Bomb Luminizer) is a light-medium, yellowy gold with moderate, warm undertones and a finer, gold sparkle and pearl throughout. It had semi-sheer color coverage in a single layer, which applied evenly and smoothly across my lips.

The texture was lightweight, non-sticky, and almost creamy in a way, so it was comfortable to wear. There was a smidgen of product that sat in my deeper lip lines, but I could barely see that in the close-up photo let alone in person! It lasted well for four hours and was moisturizing over time.

Formula Overview

The formula is supposed to have a “peach-vanilla” scent (I’d agree–sweet, lightly fruity) and be “conditioning.” It was designed to be worn alone or layered over other lip products. The consistency was very smooth, light-to-medium in weight, non-sticky, and comfortable to wear. It had a plusher consistency that helped it stay out of most of my lip lines. The shimmer was moderate but noticeable, and it distributed evenly across the lips. They last about three hours on my lips but are hydrating.

Trophy Wife (Metallic Lipstick) is a rich, medium gold with strong, warm undertones and a glittering, metallic finish. It had both a sparkling as well as a shiny finish, though it didn’t feel as wet as it looked. There was some product that sank into my deeper lip lines but not to the point where I could see that in person (just the close-up photos).

For as packed as it was with sparkle, it didn’t feel nearly as gritty/textured as I anticipated, so it was fairly comfortable to apply and to wear (I barely noticed it but someone who is more sensitive to texture likely would). It had medium coverage in a single layer, which was buildable to semi-opaque coverage at best; per the brand, it seemed designed to build to some degree. It wore well for four and a half hours and was lightly hydrating over time.

Trophy Wife (Metallic Liquid Eyeliner) is a rich, medium gold with moderate, warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It applied best along the lid compared to my arm, as it seemed a little sheerer and was harder to get a really crisp, clean out of it, but it seemed to do better when I tried it under my lower lash line along the curve of my eye area.

I did have to use two layers for full opacity, though from a normal viewing distance, it seemed more opaque in just one layer. The texture was thin, spreadable, and dried down fast enough not to migrate/move while setting but it wasn’t so fast that I could go back over sections as needed. It stayed on well for nine hours without fading or flaking.

Trophy Wife (Killawatt Highlighter) is a rich, medium gold with warm, yellow undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It was richly pigmented with a slightly denser texture that had a creamier base but the larger sparkles seemed to separate slightly from the base when applied and blended out, so it was harder to control and get precise application.

It had an intense, metallic finish but didn’t emphasize my skin’s natural texture. It wore well for nine hours but had some sparkle migration over time. It was consistent with the original version I have, though this seemed a little more pigmented in its base overall.

Formula Overview

The formula is described ranging from “subtle dayglow to insanely supercharged” with a “cream-powder hybrid” formula that feels “weightless” and is long-wearing. They can also be used on the eyes, body, lips, and so forth, per the brand. They feel like a traditional powder, but they have a smooth, moderately dense texture that doesn’t kick up a lot of excess product in the pan but also does not feel stiff or difficult to pickup with the brush. The finishes varied from shade to shade; where Metal Moon was the most subtle and had a satin-to-pearl finish, Trophy Wife was the most over-the-top with chunky, obvious glitter and less base color compared to the other shades.

The duos featured a light-to-moderate highlighter on the left and then a more sparkly, metallic highlighter on the right with the exception of Ginger Binge/Moscow Mule, where the left shade (Ginger Binge) was more intense (possibly owing to the richer color and payoff). In general, I found the left, more subtle side of each duo to be sheer to semi-sheer, somewhat buildable, whereas the right, more metallic side was substantially more pigmented. All of the more intense highlighters (Trophy Wife and the right side of the duos) did accentuate the look of my skin’s natural texture to some degree.

For use on the eye, they worked better with a slightly dampened brush, as it gave the powder a bit more binding powder for better adherence to the lid, but the ones I tried on the lid were blendable and easy to apply with no real concerns from the application itself other than the potential for fallout over time.
