I buy almost exclusively online. Sephora is typically my retailer of choice, and they really give zero incentive to buy in-store. I have Flash shipping, so there is no charge, and I get 3 samples of my choosing plus a really nice free bonus for purchases over $25. In-store I am lucky to get a single sample unless I ask specifically. And then brands like City Color, Colourpop, Looxi, etc. are online only… I can usually find a better deal online for drugstore brands! I think the only reason I go into stores now is to either swatch or use my Play by Sephora bonus card!

I actually had a Sephora employee scold me once because I shopped mostly online instead of “supporting your local businesses,” but shopping in the store means I miss out on all the things you mentioned! I do enjoy going into the store every once in a while… and I usually end up buying things in the “labyrinth of trial sizes” they’ve assembled near the checkout. 🙂

Psshhht, they should be blaming their own corporate leadership for not incentivizing customers to buy in-store! The “local business” thing gets a huge eyeroll from me considering Sephora is an enormous chain. If they really want people to purchase in the brick and mortar locations, I think they need to make some effort. I wonder what their split is of online vs. in person sales, though!

Very minimal. Like less than 5%. I hate shopping online. Hate not seeing things up close. The whole fun of shopping is going to the store and swatching it. I’m too indecisive when I shop online and I talk myself out of buying most of the time. I decided once I was going to buy a high end lipstick from Sephora once. Took me 6 hours to decide. Kept putting things in my shopping cart and taking it out. Lol. Also I don’t like my credit info online no matter how secure they claim things are.

I chose 25-50%… partially because I have a habit of going to Ulta, swatching something, and deciding I NEED it, and partially because where I live, you have to be careful what you buy if you don’t want it to melt by the time it gets to your house.

About 75% of my purchases. Most of my HE and mid end come from Sephora or Nordstrom. I’m about thinking of investing in more k-beauty stuff so that will be even more. The rest is Target and the occasional impulse on a swatching run.

Wow…at 11-25% of my overall beauty purchases, I’m in the tiniest percentage! And those purchases only because I love Colourpop and some MAC online only, LoL! But now we’re in our AZ infernal summer, I don’t go out nearly as much, so more online during June-Sept.

I prefer to buy online –no anxious SA hovering over me, no long lines, no crowds, and I can take advantage of online discount codes/cash back deals. And with a small kid, there’s no time to go to the stores, and I’m not taking her with me. I have a nightmare she’s going to knock over a display of some hideously expensive product, like the Louboutin lipsticks, and the SA’s going to ask me if I would like to charge that on my credit card (eeeek!!!). But if a product is sold out online, then I will trek to the stores to buy. But I still go to the stores to swatch, and sometimes I will buy on-the-spot , if I really want it now, if I know the product might be selling out fast, if I can’t meet the minimum for free shipping, or if the online discount isn’t that big or is non-existent.

Wow! I’m surprised so many others also shop primarily online. I live about an hour from the nearest Ulta or Sephora (inside JC Penney), and the Sephora Inside JC Penney just opened about two weeks ago. I was about two hours from any kind of Sephora store. Aside from that, I still think online is the way to go unless you are I’m desperate need of a specific item. Ebates, samples, bonus deluxe freebies, etc…

Probably over 90%. There are several reasons for that: you can always find better deals online with free samples or GWP that are not available in store, and of course with cash-back sites such as Ebates. I also don’t like to interact with sales associates in general, so online I can take my time and not feel pressured to get something I didn’t want.

Although i live only a mile from Uta and about 5 from Sephora. I buy almost everything online. I have multiple back injuries and failed surgeries from beingin a urse for so many years. This causes walking to be difficult and painful. I do go in for color matches on pricier items if returns are not free. I’ve also been color mstched at Sephora and fine it helpful when buying foundations. In addition, I shamefully have the VIB Rouge status there so get additinal perks. I have a similar status with Ulta but that des not require as mush spending.

I buy half online because 1) it’s more convenient for me as I have no car and the nearest Sephora is about 45 mins away and 2) usually when there’s a good deal and I mean a REALLY good deal I go ham, and end up buying a LOT online versus only a couple items in store. But I also enjoy buying in store because 1) you can swatch the HE things 2) in store coupons are sent to me a lot and easily accessible 3) I get the product right away and don’t need to wait for it to be mailed to me. So there are perks to both for me (I do all my beauty shopping primarily at ULTA, Sephora, and CVS)

I prefer to buy in-store as it results in less returns, and the colors are not always true online. But some of the higher-end brands are not well-represented in store, so I am sometimes forced to go online. I don’t like waiting for items either. Instant gratification is sweet!

Now that I’m pretty much caught up on my wishlist, and my stash is well-rounded, I’ve decided I’m not going to be making any online purchases for quite a while. I was considering the new upcoming Kat von D palette, but it seems so dupeable, I just can’t be bothered by the hype to jump online… I feel if a brand/retailer can’t be bothered to keep shelves stocked, and enough product to go around, then I can’t be bothered to give them my money. I will make a few exceptions with brands like Lunatick Cosmetics Lab, but only because they’re products are so unique (and delivery is insanely fast-I ordered on a Friday night, had it by Tuesday, from WI to SoCal!).

I’m in a remote area and there’s very few brands available in town! Everything is online! Try to get the sales. Or the occasional trip down south.

I have done the majority of my shopping online for over ten years. It started with Amazon during the holiday season in 1997, I was nine months pregnant and I definitely wasn’t going out into the chaotic stores!

I like taking my time, researching and comparing items, reading reviews, and having lots of options for purchasing/shipping. And the convenience of having everything show up at your doorstep is awesome! If I could buy all our groceries online, I’d do that, too!

I voted 51-75%, then realized I wasn’t including skin care. Including skin care, it goes up to about 95%.
