I tend to like something with some shine- nothing too matte. I like my lipsticks a little translucent so that it looks a tad more natural on the lips. Really opaque isn’t terrible but on me I like that sort of juicy look. Bright colours I absolutely love regardless of formula as long as it’s not completely flat. Plus I’m always up for some shimmer and glitter (I’m looking at you Estée Lauder Poppy Love)!

In conclusion, it’s obvious that I love lipstick to the point where I’m not sure what I want anymore other than the fact that I simply just want it all! I’ve been a lipstick fiend and hoarder for far too long now and it’s getting beyond a joke! But yeah, with my dry lips more moisturizing formulae are essential these days. So yeah, slight translucency, moisturizing, shiny and bright colours are what I gravitate towards. Not too sheer, just a step away from being fully opaque is what I’m after. ?

I generally prefer opaque lipstick formulas as I find they can be the most versatile. Full opacity in one layer is very comfortable on the lips and less likely to transfer or migrate. They can also be applied over a layer of lip balm and patted in with a fingertip to sheer it out if needed.

That being said, I have a special place in my heart for the YSL Sheer Candy and Volupte Shine lines.. That mango scent and juicy look is gorgeous!

Not only does my stash run the full range of opacity, I also have every finish represented. How I decide what I want to wear on a given day is on a whim. Since I do my lips last, I go by the rest of my look, unless I have a new product I really want tp wear, which is rare. That said, balm is my usual option.

My preference has definitely changed over the years, but I lean towards semi sheer now! I used to love opaque, matte, lipsticks/liquid lipsticks, but I find that my mouth/lips tend to be pretty dry, so having matte products on my lips wasn’t optimal. Nowadays, I find myself going more natural, wearing lighter makeup & sheerer foundations, which in turn makes me use sheerer lip products. My go tos right now are Dior Addict Lip Glow (Pink & Coral), YSL Glossy Stains (have a couple, but I just bought #42 the other day with your great review!), and YSL Rouge Volupte Shine Oil In Sticks.

It depends on my mood (and the color of the lipstick). I typically prefer a semi-opaque lipstick for neutral colors on the go (basically colors I can apply within a mirror). Sometimes a semi-opaque brighter color like berry or or red. If I’m willing to commit myself to the upkeep, reds, berries, and bold pinks are to be fully opaque. Definitely for more “out there” colors fully opaque is a must (a true purple or blue lipstick that’s sheer will end up looking like you aren’t getting enough oxygen).

I voted for semi-sheer. I do like a good amount of color (whether the color is nude or more of a bright, I still like to see the color), but I feel like if it’s a bit sheer it makes it easier to wear. So that’s what I reach for most often. However, I also love fully opaque lipstick.

If it’s a real lipstick, I prefer opaque. If it’s a hybrid product sheer is fine. I don’t mind semi-opaque when done well like Chanel, NARS, and TF tend to put out.

I prefer opaque but without tugging. That generally means the formula had more slip to it, making it easier to layer with other colors. This is especially easy to do when you have a lip balm with more slip underneath to sheer out the color and blend with others (a favorite tactic)!

I do a sort of DIY semi-sheer, using Jack Black balm first, color on top. Then use different amounts of each according to how opaque I want it or the color or product involved.

Totally opaque because you’re basically getting more lipstick per lipstick. I love carrying around an opaque lipstick i can just pat on for a stain, go for the full look or do something in between.

I voted Totally Opaque because it’s my favorite. I wear a lot of bright or very dark lipsticks that would (in my opinion) look weird on me if they weren’t fully opaque.

I do like semi-sheer for lighter nude or pink shades, though!

Mine is a bit of color and shine, like the ones from Yves Saint Laurent! Because the leave your lips super moisturized and some of them add lot of color as well 🙂

I prefer totally opaque, though in the summer I also enjoying something like UD Sheer Revolution, that is slightly sheer but still really pigmented. I’m not what the difference between semi-opaque and semi-sheer is. It sounds like two different names for the same thing, but I may not be up on all the latest terminology.

HMM that depends on the day and eye makeup. MAJORITY of my colors are fully opaque but I have sheer, to shiny, to creamy, to matte. I’d prefer mattes but again it all depends on the eye makeup and the day.
