If I really wanted to wear bright, bold blue eyeshadow, I would.  I usually gravitate towards earth tones and colors like green, plum, copper, golds just based on my personal tastes as who I am today, so in some ways, it's more "conservative," but it's by choice. If I really wanted to wear bright, bold blue eyeshadow, I would.  I usually gravitate towards earth tones and colors like green, plum, copper, golds just based on my personal tastes as who I am today, so in some ways, it’s more “conservative,” but it’s by choice. If there’s a family function like a wedding, graduation, etc. sometimes that can impact the style of makeup (heavy vs. more natural, smoky vs. more daytime-appropriate).  I will also make an effort so that I’m actually wearing a cohesive makeup look and not two different blushes, two different eyeshadow looks, etc. 😉  When I first started wearing eyeshadow, I would wear all sorts of crazy colors and combinations around family and extended family – nobody had an issue with it, though!
