Too Faced Clueless La Creme Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a light-medium, cotton candy pink with a ton of gold glitter and finer lavender pearl. It really doesn’t feel or look much like the La Creme formula has; it is sheerer in its base, but it is still emollient, slippery, and thick enough that for all the glitter there is, it doesn’t feel particularly gritty. It doesn’t apply evenly, unfortunately, but it had a lot of dimension and reflectiveness that I didn’t feel it looked quite as splotchy in person as it does appear in swatches. The glitter tends to bunch up a bit, which gives the lips a more textured look. It wore for three hours, and it was neither drying nor hydrating. It does tint the lips pink as well. Though it is going to rate abysmally, I quite enjoyed it as a total glitter-packed product, but it falls short of the La Creme promises of pigmentation, application, and hydration. It takes several removals to get all of the glitter off, even though the majority of the color/effect is removed the first time you remove it–the glitter just clings. Too Faced Unicorn Tears La Creme Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a light-medium, cool-toned lavender with iridescent blue shimmer and glitter. It does tint the lips pink within five minutes of wear, and it leaves behind a soft stain after a few hours overall. It glides on without feeling gritty, but it doesn’t apply particularly evenly and the sheerer, very slippery base color gathers in lip lines. I think the shade is cool in theory if it was marketed as a sheer, layering product (but it is lumped into the La Creme formula with no distinctions made on their website), though it would still be a fussier product. Again, I think it holds up and looks better in-person than in a close-up, as it reflects more light, which helps to camouflage some of those imperfections. We actually see this hue in eyeshadow form more often, so if you happen to own one of those iterations, you might try patting that over your favorite lipstick to see if you like the effect enough to buy a tube of it in lipstick form. The color lasted for three hours and was lightly hydrating. There were a few glitter particles that were outside of the lips after wear. A lot of the sparkle remains even after removal of the color; it is hard to fully remove all the glittery bits. Too Faced Unicorn Tears (LE, $22.00) is darker, more muted (95% similar). I really think Too Faced did a major disservice to the launch of the new spring shades, both to themselves to sell their own product but to make sure customers’ expectations were met. These are over-the-top glittery and really feel like “Sparkle La Creme” rather than “La Creme,” and I think differentiating or at least describing their new shades (of which many are quite glittery) would have gone a long way. There are some who will love the addition of glitter to the La Creme family, but I imagine others will be quite surprised at the amount of glitter in some of the shades as well. (Photos on Too Faced’s website indicate pearl but certainly not glitter!) They did a great job when they launched the Metallic versions of the Melted formula, and I feel like they could have done the same with several of the new La Creme shades.
