Tom Ford Rose Prick Eau de Parfum is a sweeter rose-centered fragrance that has a more peppery, spiced opening that has a lush greenness to it for the first hour or so before shifting into a more spiced vanilla and rose duo that gets smokier as the drydown appears and brings lots of patchouli to marry with the vanilla.

What does Rose Prick Smell Like?

It opened with sweet, candied rose, which heated up as it became slightly peppery with an underlying almost zesty, verdant patchouli that helped cut some of the initial sweetness. The candied rose now was more tempered, still aromatic and quite sweet, but it was creamier and smoother and created a more rounded fragrance.

The emerald lushness intensified over the next 10 minutes along with a tickling pepper further reduced the rose, which now was a more moderate, jammy rose with lots of foliage below its biggest blooms.

Rose Prick sweetened again after an hour of wear as most of the underlying zestiness seemed to disappear, but the rose seemed less candied, more like spiced sweetness. The drydown was spiced tonka bean paired with sweet, smoky, and lightly woody patchouli.

Longevity

It lasted for eight hours until it was a skin-scent and about 14 hours before it was quite difficult to detect on my skin. The sillage and projection were moderate with noticeable drops after three hours of wear.

Personal Notes

I felt like for a sweeter rose scent, it didn’t get too sickly sweet for my personal taste, though the phase I enjoyed the most was when the rose was paired with earthier, greener elements. It is a rose-centered scent that I’d definitely wear again.

Testing Methodology

For testing, I used two sprays to the underside and topside of my wrist area on my left arm. I used an unscented moisturizer prior to applying the scent as this is also my swatching arm (aka, incredibly parched at any given moment) as I found scent did not hold well here otherwise.
