MAC Sensual Peach Eye Look Bag
A Bag of Holiday Tricks
MAC Sensual Peach Eye Look Bag ($46.50) contains an eyeshadow duo that features Dazzle Me (light peach with gold pearl) and Mulch (red-brown with bronze pearl). Mulch is permanent. It also includes a 275SE brush, Opulash Mascara, and Stubborn Brown (deep rich brown) eyeliner, which is also part of the permanent range. The eyeshadow duo is 0.09 oz (full-sized), Powerpoint Eye Pencil is 0.04 oz. (full-sized), Opulash Mascara is .38 oz. (full-sized). The total value of the kit is $58.50 for the cosmetics in it; this doesn’t include the value of the brush and bag.
Dazzle Me is a golden peach with a frosted sheen. It has a frost finish. The color payoff was poor–it was rather sheer–and the texture stiff. theBalm Iron Maid-in is similar. MAC Sweet & Sour is yellower. Dior Couture Gold is more orange. Urban Decay Blunt is similar.
Mulch is a warm medium-dark brown with red undertones and a bronze shimmer. It has a velvet finish. This shade is part of the permanent range, and I’m happy to report that is as lovely to work with in the duo as it is on its own. The pigmentation is excellent, and the texture is soft, finely-milled, and applies smoothly. Urban Decay Deeper is darker. Giorgio Armani #28 is not as warm. Dior Golden Savannah is lighter. MAC Electric Coil is a bit redder.
My biggest complaint about the set is actually that the eyeliner and mascara barely fit in the bag! You have to make sure to push the mascara down to the bottom and kind of wiggle in it, then put the pencil on top of that. I just found it odd that it would come with products that don’t fit easily into it (the way it arrives is that the items are in a plastic bag, outside of the vinyl bag). The bag itself is clear vinyl with leopard print and lace print over a bluish-aqua satin.
Dazzle Me just doesn’t work well. The texture is stiff and difficult to work with, so it doesn’t yield much color. It really needs to be packed on, and even then, it didn’t appear as it did in the pan. Mulch is great; if you really like it, you can pick up for $15 in a pot and $12 in a pan. Though I’ve done the math, the price point of this set seems high. I think, perhaps, the mascara is not going to be the real draw here, and if you don’t use it, then you lose a lot of value there. The bag is best for holding lipsticks, glosses, or loose eyeshadows. It’s fairly small.
The mascara worked well for blackening and lengthening lashes, and I didn’t experience any smudging or flaking during the day. Stubborn wore well for eight hours with very minor fading.
