Profumum Roma Rosae Mundi Eau de Parfum is an ode to tea roses surrounded by woody stalks, fresh green leaves, and rich soil. The rose was the star, merely supported by the other notes, through the majority of the scent’s life on my skin, though the drydown was progressively woodier over time.

It opened with the smell of the first bloom on a rose bush, early in the morning when the soil was still damp–musty and earthy–and greenery abounded. Given a moment to settle, the rose sweetened, more full in its bloom, with dawn’s light starting to dry out the ground. It was a darker rose, not jammy rose; at times, almost a bit of bergamot came through to my nose. The rose was completely grounded by earthiness from the patchouli and greenness of the vetiver.

There was little shift in the first hour; the only real notable change was the rose bloomed, became somewhat sweeter and was stronger overall. Rosae Mundi somewhat softened and seemed smoother with the vetiver getting less sharp and green, while the cedar’s aroma heightened over the next few hours. In the drydown, it was still gently perfumed with the smell of fresh, fragrant rose blooms with warm cedar wood and a hint of earthiness overall.

Application

For testing, I used 1/3 of a 1ml sample vial dabbed to the underside and topside of my wrist area on my left arm. I used an unscented moisturizer prior to applying the scent as this is also my swatching arm (aka, incredibly parched at any given moment) as I found scent did not hold well here otherwise. I purchased my sample January 2022.

Longevity

It lasted for six hours until it was a skin-scent and about 12 hours before it was quite difficult to detect on my skin. The sillage and projection were moderate with the sillage dropping faster than the projection by the second hour.

Personal Thoughts

It seemed like a truly exceptional rose-centered fragrance, though I certainly haven’t tried rose fragrances extensively, but it really felt like if fresh roses were a perfume. In my ideal world, I’d probably want a little less of the vetiver to come through and a touch more of the rose, but this was more along the type of rose fragrance I was looking for a year or two ago!
