MAC Lipstick comes in a variety of finishes, and the pigmentation and wear tend to be dependent on the finish. The sheer finishes, like Lustres, tend to wear for only a couple of hours and have sheer coverage (as designed) and are non-drying. Some of the original Matte shades have a stiffer, drier formula, while newer ones have a more velvety, silicone-feel to them, and the latter are creamier, more comfortable to wear, and easier to apply, but most Matte shades are quite pigmented and long-wearing, though some are drying. The Amplified and Satin finishes tend to have good pigmentation, lightly creamy to moderately creamy consistencies with a bit of shine, and moderate to long wear with deeper, richer shades wearing longer. The Frost and Metallic finishes have the most variance between shades with coverage ranging from semi-sheer to opaque with average wear and non-drying to slightly drying formulas. All MAC lipsticks are vanilla-scented but have no discernible taste.

I love this sheer lipstick for neutralizing bright colours. It's so perfect and buildable!

MAC Studded Kiss is a beautiful dark red, with more hints of wine/purple than oxblood/burgundy. It's a close dupe for my all time favorite MAC Diva, but slightly more purple (at least on my complexion - brunette, brown eyes, light-medium warm yellow undertones). The finish is almost matte (it has the slightest shine) and great pigmentation. It has some buildability, two swipes yield full opacity; I like that with one swipe I can get a slightly more subtle bold color (similar to what Christine mentions, there is a smidgen of the natural lip color coming through). I personally love the MAC Matte lipstick formula, and this one is no exceptions: long lasting, stains the lips, comfortable and non drying (maybe a little at the end of the day). I have to re-apply after meals, but most times not after drinking or snacks. Studded Kiss tends a little to feather, so I would recommend a lip liner if this is usually an issue.

MAC Spirit is muted pinky-beige brown in the bullet, but on me it looks on me as a mauvy-beige brown (not so muted). I have mauvy lips and most lipstick shades (even if they are pigmented) look different on me. I have light-medium complexion, warm yellow undertones (NC 20-25), dark brown hair and MAC Spirit doesn't look muted on me (but it's neither a bold in your face brown). It's a nice shade to wear as a `neutral` with bolder eye make-up, it's a good darker nude for me. On my it looks more dark, brown and mauve (less pink) than on Christine; the shade definitely has a lot of `warmness` in it. Still, as a nude-brown I think Velvet Teddy works better for me; Velvet Teddy also looks more brown on me, I never see the `pinkish` tones. Spirit comes in the MAC Satin finish, which I find to have a very comfortable wear, almost hydrating. The formula is a little creamy (it has some stickiness, especially if built up). The color doesn't really stain the lips, so any drinking, snacking and light eating will cause wear off. But I don't mind that much re-applying during the day.

As someone with medium skin (NC30-35) and neutral, muted, olive (meaning green) undertones, it took me a while to find a perfect nude. Most "nudes" marketed as nudes do not work for me. They're too pink, too peachy, etc. But, MAC Taupe ended up being the best color for me thus far to wear as a nude on a day to day basis. The brown undertones and mutedness of this product really make it perfect for someone with skin depth, mutedness and undertones close to mine. The ONLY reason I give 4 1/2 stars instead of 5 is because this lipstick is slightly thick. I would prefer it to be more smooth, but it's very pigmented, so the saying "beggars can't be choosers" kind of applies to me here.

This lipstick is precisely the colour of my freckles, as advertised. It's semi sheer but buildable to not quite opaque, lasts for a few hours (until lunch) and feels nice on the lips. When more later in the day it can pill a little, so be sure to remove fully before reapplying.

Perfect for a natural effect. Long wearing for me and fade out well through the day.

This is my favourite everyday shade. It’s very light and comfortable on the lips. I feel that it’s lightly hydrating. I’m a fan of the finish too - it’s shiny but still quite subtle. It’s long lasting too, and outside of eating I don’t really need to reapply.

Fresh Moroccan is the best color that I ever found. The lipstick is non-drying and easy application. I apply the Mac lip primer and let it sink in a few seconds, then, apply Mac Auburn lip liner, blot and apply three applications of the lipstick. Blot between each application. Lipstick lasts very well and does not bleed all over my face. MAC please do not discontinue this perfect color of a warm frosted red brown. I used to wear PRESCRIPTIVES lipsticks and they had color options for RED/ORANGE skin types. When they closed shop, the chance to find a perfect red for a red orange color type was diminished significantly. I searched high and low for years for a good replacement for my Prescriptives, hoarding my tubes, until I had no choice but to do a search. With the help of a great make up professional from Nordstrom Indianapolis, I found Fresh Moroccan. PLEASE DO NOT DISCONTINUE THIS COLOR. Few colors are meant for those red/orange gals. I am 68, so don't let me lose another great color. Grazie... [If I could rate this 10 stars, I would have.]

A very pretty red that sadly doesn't match my fair skin tone very well. It does stay on pretty well and is easy to apply.

MAC Chili is a gorgeous color, with the perfect mix of brown, orange and red. My complexion is light-medium with yellow undertones (NC20-25), and my lips are naturally more mauve; MAC Chili is more red on me, with a hint of orange and brown. Christine picture shows the color more orange than it looks on me. I find this color very wearable, works with glam looks but also for everyday wear. It's not a true red, it's a very interesting unique red. With the orange tones (nothing blue in this red), my teeth might look more yellow than usual. Even if it's a Matte formula, it still has some Satin vibes. It's definitely not a flat dull matte. I personally find MAC Matte formula very comfortable to wear all day long, it has both creaminess and staying power. I have to retouch it after meals, but otherwise looks great all day, without staining the lips.

MAC Fastplay is a neutral plum-pink lip color. I'm light-medium with yellow undertones (NC20), with slightly mauvish lips (I find that my natural lip color impacts the color of some lip products). Compared to Christine swatches, on my lips MAC Fastplay looks a little darker, more plum/mauve and less pink. It's a wonderful shade, a color that pops while being natural, complimenting lots of looks. While I do love the color, I'm not a fan of MAC Amplified formula. It's a creamy formula that migrates during the day and doesn't leave a stain behind (I have to re-apply it often), I much more prefer Satin and Matte formulas. The formula has it's advantages; since it's creamy, it's very hydrating and comfortable on the lips; it has a nice shine; it's quite opaque and buildable (I can dab a little on the lips for a slight natural flush of color, or build a full pigmented lip).

Beautiful color that complements my skin tone. However, it's too sheer and seems to last about 15 minutes on me. I wish they would make this color in a more intensely pigmented, longer lasting lipstick.

MAC matte lipsticks are my favourite formula to wear and I find them consistently good across the board. Velvet Teddy is my go-to MLBB shade in a bullet and I wear this at least once a week. It was the first MAC lipstick I bought and I'm now on my third tube. Like the other MAC lipsticks I own this is relatively long wearing and comfortable, not drying and highly pigmented.

MAC matte lipsticks are my favourite formula to wear and I find them consistently good across the board. Russian red is a lovely bright red that doesn't pull pink on me, which I find to be a problem with most reds as I have yellow undertones. Like the other MAC mattes I own this wears comfortably for long periods of time and does not feather or apply patchy.

MAC matte lipsticks are my favourite formula to wear and I find them consistently good across the board. Sin is my ideal dark red, not pink at all and extremely pigmented. Applies smoothly and wears for 4+ hours comfortably.

MAC matte lipsticks are my favourite formula to wear and I find them consistently good across the board. Really pigmented and easy to apply, comfortable to wear and long lasting. I found it difficult to find a true purple lipstick that wasn't a really dark pink, and this fits the bill. Doesn't feather and isn't patchy.

MAC matte lipsticks are my favourite formula to wear and I find them consistently good across the board. Whirl is a lovely rosy nude that goes with most looks, bold or subtle. As always I love the MAC formula, I find it easy to apply and relatively long lasting for a bullet.

MAC matte lipsticks are my favourite formula to wear and I find them consistently good across the board. Taupe is the perfect reddy-brown shade that pairs really nicely with warm eyeshadow looks - its become my go-to when I can't decide what to wear. Goes on nicely and lasts for 4 hours easily without touching up. Not drying, very comfortable to wear.

I've never seen a colour like this. It makes me think of steampunk and sepia photos. It's a little bit gothy against my very pale skin (which is fine with me) and it lasts really well. I find it slightly drying as I do most mac lipsticks, but it's not painfully so.

I love MAC Satin finish; comfortable, but long lasting, no smudging or feathering (I would never buy Creamsheens again). I also love how plums and berry toned lipsticks suit me. The issue is that Rebel on my lips looks like a darker toned bright pink rather than a dark purple; no plum, maybe a hint of berry. I would have loved for it to have the tone it has on Christine lips swatch. I already have some plum hues in my natural lips, I just don't know where the pinkness comes from. Although the color isn't what I expected, it's a great lipstick. It's comfortable (as mentioned before), stains the lips so it doesn't require a lot of reapplication (will last through coffee, drinks, snacks, a light meal) and shows no signs of patchiness. The stain my lips is even, but it's also very easy to remove at the end of the day. The color has a nice subtle shine, but somewhat still matte. It's quite buildable, I can dab my lips gently for a subtle natural tint or swipe it twice for full opacity.

I really wanted to love this lipstick, but I don't. The retro matte formula of Ruby Woo is difficult to apply because it is extremely dry and tugs very hard on the lips. I found it especially difficult to apply on mature lips. The red shade is bright and pretty, but the color has no depth to it. It was very drying on my lips and though it stayed on pretty well, it was not nearly as long-lasting as I thought it would be based on reviews I've read. There's a different version of Ruby Woo in a special 2017 holiday mini set. Instead of being a retro matte, the mini is in MAC's regular matte formula, which is much creamier, making it easier to apply and more comfortable to wear. Unfortunately, it is a limited edition. I hope MAC releases Ruby Woo as a full size regular matte lipstick someday.

This is a fabulous purple lipstick! It goes on pretty easily and doesn't make me look yellow (which happens sometimes with purples). The scent is noticeable when you put it on, but fades pretty quickly. It doesn't have the best staying power and doesn't leave a stain behind which can be good or bad depending on what you're looking for. It was a little dry to apply but I didn't find it drying on my lips.

I have a ridiculous number of red lipsticks, but this is by far my favorite ever. It works beautifully for my skin tone, is beautiful, rich, and goes on easily.

Absolutely gorgeous fuschia lipstick! The version of Flat Out Fabulous that I am reviewing is the mini from the 2017 So Obsessed Snow Ball Mini Lipstick Kit. The formula is different in this limited edition mini (matte) than in the full size (retro matte). It has a typical MAC matte consistency—creamy, easy to apply, dries down to a matte that's not too drying. It does transfer, but it also stays on very well, even through a meal. It leaves a pretty good stain behind on the lips, so when it starts to wear off, it isn't that noticeable. I first heard of Flat Out Fabulous from an Emily Fox swatch video on YouTube in which she said it was her favorite MAC lipstick. When it showed up as part of this mini kit, I decided it was time to try it. I have to say that it is now one of my favorite MAC lipsticks, too. It's bright fuschia, but not so bright that it looks cartoonish, and I can even wear it to work. I receive so many compliments whenever I wear it. I think this shade will look beautiful on most skin tones, from light to dark (I'm MAC NC20). I'll probably buy the full size version of this shade when I use up the mini. I'll be curious to see the difference in formula from matte to retro matte, and will update my review at that time.

I was conflicted about how many stars to give this lipstick. Stone is a strange shade because it looks brownish or taupe on some people, but on me it reads as a straight up gray. On the bright side, it goes on nice and creamy and stays on very well, but with my coloring (MAC NC20), it makes me look like a corpse. I recommend trying it on before buying it.
