Madame Greige

Pat McGrath Madame Greige LuxeTrance Lipstick ($38.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a muted, medium mauve with neutral-to-cool undertones and a satin sheen. It had rich color payoff in a single layer with a smooth, creamy texture that was slightly denser and thicker than many formulas on the market, but it didn’t actually feel heavy on the lips. The lipstick was easy to apply and comfortable to wear, which was a good thing given it lasted for six and a half hours on me. It also felt moisturizing while I wore it.

Formula Overview

$38.00/0.14 oz. - $271.43 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have a "intense color payoff" with "comfort" and "rich hydration" that has a "satiny sheen." Of the shades I've tried, they are richly pigmented, long-wearing, incredibly comfortable to wear from start to finish, hydrating, and generally flattering on the lips. The texture was smooth, velvety, and creamy enough to glide across the lips with ease but never felt slippery or too clingy. Most shades performed exceptionally well, and while pricey, they at least lived up to a lot of the claims. There was no discernible scent or taste.

Gold Palette

Guerlain Gold Palette Holiday 2017 Palette ($80.00 for 0.50 oz.) is a new, limited edition eye and cheek palette that contains six eyeshadows and two blushes. Per the brand, the eyeshadows can be used dry for a “natural finish” or wet for a “lustrous result.” The brand specifically mentioned that “the golden shadow can be applied alone or as a topcoat.” They did not call out any of the other eyeshadows, and there was another exceptionally sheer shade (golden beige). The two matte shades did not work well damp (seemed to darken the pan permanently), so I would only advise using the shimmery shades with a dampened brush unless dampening the brush after picking up the powder. The blushes need to have their oversprays removed or else they feel gritty; the underlying powders were fine after that. It’s not the worst palette I’ve tested, and if you’re someone who uses your shimmery eyeshadows damp already, then it might work well for you. If you prefer using your eyeshadows dry, then this one was a real mess to use and wear.

Tom Ford Beauty Leigh Boys & Girls Lip Color Sheer ($36.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a bright, medium pink-coral with warm undertones and a cream finish. It had nearly opaque color payoff in a single stroke. It felt creamy, lightly emollient, and never dragged or tugged on the lips. The color went on evenly, though there was slight product that settled into my deeper lip lines but wasn’t noticeable from a normal viewing distance. It wore well for four hours and was moisturizing.

Formula Overview

$36.00/0.07 oz. - $514.29 Per Ounce

The Lip Color Sheer formula is supposed to have a "semi-sheer effect" with a "creamy" and "hydrating" formula. They are a sheerer lip color, which may or may not be one's cup of tea; if you are looking for pigment, look elsewhere, but if you're someone who likes sheerer coverage, lightweight, hydrating textures, then it might be a formula for you. There are several shades in the range that have a more transformative effect, as they contain a lot of shimmer/sparkle or have a more duochrome or iridescent-like finish. There are others, typically deeper, richer hues (reds, berries, etc.) that are more medium coverage. The wear ranged a lot from as short as two hours to as long as five hours but most wore around three hours. The formula is lightly hydrating with a very lightweight feel on the lips. They are vanilla scented but have no discernible taste.

I usually use a cleansing oil (I’m currently using Tatcha),
which usually gets 95% of my makeup off. I’ll use a cotton swab with makeup remover for getting last bits of eyeliner off my lower lash line. If I wore a really stain-prone lip color, I’ll use a tissue to remove as much as I can prior to using the cleansing oil.

Dior Precious Rocks (864) DiorBlush Vibrant Color Powder Blush ($45.00 for oz.) is a medium, pink-coral with warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. There was fine gold sparkle on top of the powder, but it did not go all the way through. The texture was dry with a very chalky base that was difficult to pick up evenly with a brush, blend out. The coverage was sheer, though the brand described it as a “sheer peach.” The issue I had with this was just how poorly it applied–it was patchy and uneven, as the powder seemed to grab onto the skin and not want to move. It lasted for a mere four hours on me before fading noticeably.
