Sunday Link Love, Volume #076

Foundation 102 by Dusty

Happy Sunday!

How are you? I hope you’ve been having a nice weekend thus far.  Today’s plans include blogging (but of course!), some freelance work, and then working on a jigsaw puzzle with Shaun while football is on (thank goodness for RedZone!).  Sometimes I’m at a total loss as to what to say on Sundays, just because my life has a lot of routine, which is really how I like it–I operate so much better when I’m on a schedule and keep to a routine.  I am much more productive that way!  And speaking of routines, Mellan’s internal clock is always impressive.  He knows exactly when it’s time for breakfast (9AM) and when it’s time for dinner (5PM); he’ll come to me at my desk and squeeze his head through the arms of my chair and firmly press his bony jaw against my thigh or arm until I relent and feed him.

Deborah Lippmann Girls Just Want to Have Fun Nail Lacquer

A Look at Deborah Lippmann’s Girls Just Want to Have Fun Nail Lacquer

Deborah Lippmann Girls Just Want to Have Fun Nail Lacquer ($16.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “carefree coral” with a creme finish. It’s a vibrant, just shy of being neon, shade of coral-red. Though it certainly is a cream finish, it has that squishy look to it of a jelly to me as well. I loved that this lacquer was opaque in two coats! As far as similar shades go, SpaRitual Love & Happiness is pretty close, perhaps a touch darker. Illamasqua Lament is pinker.

The flow of Girls Just Want to Have Fun is excellent; it spreads evenly across the nail without streaking or bubbling. It has a good consistency–not too thick or thin. Deborah Lippmann’s polishes tend to wear well on me; I typically get a week of wear with minor to minimal tip wear. This was originally launched during the summer (I have a major backlog!), but it’s still available and for those who are 1) having summery weather now or 2) wear seasonally inappropriate shades, enjoy! 🙂

Guerlain Noir G de Guerlain Mascara

Guerlain Noir G de Guerlain Mascara

Guerlain’s NEW Noir G is the first mascara to combine the extravagant luxury of a jewel case with an extraordinary formula for perfectly defined eyes. This fabulous case jealously guards a unique, complete formula that combines the power of color, extreme intensity and the secret of beauty. The lush texture makes it easy to achieve an intense, dramatic lash look without any risk of smearing, smudging or clumping. Like a magic wand, the ground-breaking Noir G goes one step further with a refillable wand applicator, making it convenient and easy to switch to a new one as soon as you need it. Pull on the case and with a click, the hidden mirror is revealed. Add a quick twist and the brush appears for exceptional lash results.

Features

  • Formula complex delivers a perfect 3-dimensional look with volumizing, lengthening and curling benefits.
  • Lashes are transformed: perfectly defined, denser and cloaked in a new intensity.
  • Refillable design makes replacing more convenient.

Formulation

  • Ultra Black Pigments: these carbon black pigments offer an unprecedented level of intense black. The optimal size of these pigments allows for a better dispersion within the formula while a magnifying effect amplifies the intensity and depth of the black and the glossy finish. These are the purest black pigments that can be found in mascara.
  • Volumizing, Lengthening, Curling formula: The formula plumps and thickens every lash, the stretch formula allows the mascara to lengthen even the smallest lashes and then the curling formula coats lashes in a protective film to maximise and set the curl.
  • Artemia Salina: helps to regenerate lashes by stimulating keratin for fortification and lash growth.
  • Polymer Film fixes the formula from daybreak to the end of the night, preventing the formula from smudging or flaking.

Exceptional Brush

  • In perfect osmosis with Noir G’s formula, the fiber brush is soft and supple for perfect, fast and even distribution over all the lashes. Narrow and extremely easy to handle, it glides everywhere, catching and wrapping around every lash above and below to reproduce the unprecedented effect of a blow-dry.

availability: Noir G is available January at Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, and Bergdorf Goodman. It will retail for $49, refills for $26.

Cult Nails My Kind of Cool Aid Nail Lacquer

Cult Nails My Kind of Cool Aid Nail Lacquer

Cult Nails My Kind of Cool Aid Nail Lacquer ($10.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “purple/gray” or “gravender” as Cult Nails calls it. It’s a light-medium grayish purple with sparse white shimmer that’s opaque in two coats. I’d say the closest shade I have to it is Rescue Beauty Lounge Insouciant, which is a few shades darker and less gray. Shades like Nubar Purple Aster and Zoya Marley are much lighter.

The formula is excellent–it wears really well without bubbling, chipping, or streaking. The lacquer applies evenly and flows well on the nail, and after a week, there is minimal tip wear. One of the best things about the brand is that you’re supporting an independent company and truly making someone’s dream come true–and when you have a great back story with a quality product? It doesn’t get any better.

Benefit Dandy Brandy Eyeshadow

Benefit Dandy Brandy Eyeshadow
Benefit Dandy Brandy Eyeshadow

Benefit Dandy Brandy Eyeshadow ($18.00 for 0.11 oz.) is described as a “copper spice.” It’s a gorgeous shade of bronze-shimmered medium brown with copper-red undertones. The hue reminded me of Make Up For Ever #15 when it is sheered out (when it’s opaque, it’s much too bronze and deep). Bare Escentuals The Truth is also quite similar, perhaps a bit redder. Shades like MAC Make Your Mark and MAC Buckwheat are noticeably darker.

Brandy Dandy has strong warm undertones, but paired with cool grays, taupes, or blues, could work on cooler complexions. Dandy Brandy pairs well with Fawn Over Me or Bikini Line for a quick and easy look of light/dark contrast with a lot of underlying warmth. It’s a good staple shade for those who love warm browns, but it’s certainly a shade that many brands have, so check your stash first for similarities.

Benefit recommends sweeping it on over bare lids for sheer color and layered over their cream eyeshadow for richer color. The super soft texture of the finely-milled powder makes it effortless to blend to a soft wash, but it doesn’t require building to get opaque color (see the swatch!) either. The Velvet Eyeshadows have a dense quality to them, and combined with their softness, makes them feel buttery and almost creamy (but they’re powder, I promise!). I’ve been a fan of Benefit’s eyeshadows for years now, and for those seeking softer shades overall, I recommend checking out the range.  As a bonus, each eyeshadow is double the size of your average eyeshadow!
