If there’s a product I like, I would keep using it, no matter the status — that is assuming I was a normal consumer and not a beauty blogger. Since I am a beauty blogger, I am usually testing something new, so I don’t have a chance to use many products extensively once I’ve finished testing them. There are a few products I reach for on personal days, and that is when I use what I want to and not think about how it relates to the blog.

Lancome Kitten Heel Color Design Eyeshadow

Lancome Kitten Heel Color Design Eyeshadow ($18.00 for 0.042 oz.) is described as a “golden peach-y pink” with a shimmer finish. This is one of my personal favorite Lancome shades, because I’m all over any peach-pink eyeshadow! What I like about this one is that it is decidely pink with a golden sheen; often, these types of shades lean more orange (think MAC Melon pigment). I love that it’s more of a yellow-toned pink as the base color with the golden shimmer-sheen. The closest dupe I could think of was MAC Goody Goody Gum Drop which is similar but slightly cooler-toned and with a less noticeable golden sheen.

The texture is good, but it could be a touch smoother; when applied to the lid, it seems to be better than swatched. It’s not bad, it truly is good, but I think the texture has a little room for improvement. This is a great one-and-done shade, though, and it has more oomph than a beige/champagne wash of color does. Bonus? It could totally be used as a blush or highlighter. Lancome’s eyeshadows are supposed to be long-wearing (without a base), and while I don’t quite achieve all-day wear, I get around eight hours with subtle creasing, but I don’t have any creasing issues if I use a base underneath.

NARS Casablanca Lipstick

NARS Casablanca Lipstick

NARS Casablanca Lipstick ($24.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “classic, full-bodied coral.” It has a satin finish (so it’s part of the Satin Lipstick formula), which is described as a “lustrous, long-wearing lipstick infused with conditioners to provide comfortable wear and sumptuously, silky color.” Casablanca is a softened tangerine orange with a natural shine and just about full color coverage. Chanel Sari Dore is more vibrant, while MAC Made to Order is glossier and has some shimmer in it. Bobbi Brown Soft Coral is lighter, while CoverGirl Delish is just slightly lighter.

NARS’ Satin lipsticks are creamier than some of the other formulas, though they’re not super creamy or soft. Because they’re not too creamy, they don’t apply too thickly either–you get a nice lightweight feel with your more opaque color. Casablanca wore for around five hours, and it almost stretched to six, but I felt it needed reapplication by the sixth hour. It’s not drying, but it’s not really moisturizing over the duration of wear. I didn’t detect any scent or taste.  As far as oranges go, this is a more wearable one, especially for cooler complexions, though it’s still warm-toned.

Estee Lauder Blackened Plum Pure Color Intense Kajal Eyeliner

Estee Lauder Blackened Plum Pure Color Intense Kajal Eyeliner ($20.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a deep blackened purple that leans a little cool-toned. It’s not quite your violet, blue-based purple, but it’s nowhere near eggplant or burgundy. I couldn’t think of anything that comes close to the level of darkness (without being black)–the closest purple I could think of was L’Oreal HIP Violet Volt, which is much lighter and shimmery to boot!  Between the darkness and not-quite-cool-tone, I think this will be an excellent alternative to black eyeliners on all skin tones and against all eye colors.  It’s a great way to accent a smoky eye!

The pigmentation is impressive, because it’s really rich and opaque in a single pass, which is what we all want, and we don’t always find it, especially in purple eyeliners–too often purple eyeshadows and eyeliners seem to skip and drag. Blackened Plum is decadent in texture; creamy enough to glide-on effortlessly and give great color in one go but still stays in place once you apply it. It wore for ten hours without fading or smudging on the lash line, though the water line was only around six hours.

5 English Golden Glitters for the Holidays

When I think of make up for the holidays, I immediately think of a strong red lip and lots of gold glitter, which is why I decided to find and test a few glittery products from England!

Illamasqua Ore Pure Pigment (£15.00 for 1.3g) is a gorgeous deep golden-bronze colour strewn with silver glitter. When I photographed it with my flash, I could also see some pretty red and green glitter, but unfortunately, I couldn’t see this with my naked eye due to the horrible dark English weather at this time of year, so my swatches reflect that. This is finely-milled, smooth, and easy to blend. It has quite a high price tag, but this is truly reflected in the quality; I can’t recommend it enough! Please click here to see some wonderful swatches from Christine which show this beautiful product at it’s full potential!

It’s no secret that I love Barry M’s loose Dazzle and Glitter Dusts, and this shade is no exception. True to its name, Barry M Gold Iridescent Fine Glitter Dust (£4.59) is a subtle, iridescent gold strewn with golden glitter. I wouldn’t agree with the description of ‘fine’ glitter dust, but it is easy to work with nonetheless. It’s really pretty and a great alternative if you don’t fancy going for the full-on gold glitter look!

Models Own Gold & Gold Searkle Powder Eyeshadow (£5.00 for 3.5g) is your ultimate, in-your-face, chunky yellow gold glitter! It’s an absolute pain to apply and is fall out central, but I felt that I had to include a glitter like this. Be sure to use it with a good primer or mixing medium!

17 Stardust Starry Eyes Glitter Liner (£3.99 for 6ml) is a gorgeous glitter eyeliner with a gold base and tiny bits of gold and silver glitter. I can also see very subtle flashes of red and green when swatched, but this doesn’t translate to the eyes. I think that glittery eyeliner is a great way to add interest to a look, so was really disappointed when this performed really poorly! It flaked off in big chunks within a couple of hours, leaving me thankful I only tested it around the house!

Collection 2000 Dig It! Glam Crystals Dazzling Gel Liner (£2.99 for 6ml) is what I want from a glitter liner–easy to apply, long lasting and packed with sparkle. This is a mixture of matte black and gold glitter, which gives a lovely blackened gold finish. After testing this, I can’t wait to try some more of Collection 2000’s glitter liners!

After testing all of these products, I’ve got the glitter bug, so would love to hear about your favourite glittery products in the comments! 🙂
