Kiehl’s Rare Earth for Earth Day 2012

Kiehl’s Rare Earth for Earth Day 2012

In honor of Earth Day, Kiehl’s Since 1851, the venerable New York-based purveyor of fine quality skin and hair care is proud to donate $100,000 to Recycle Across America™ (RAA), a not-for-profit organization dedicated to delivering society-wide solutions that eliminate public confusion, stimulate the environmental economy and expedite progress. These funds will be used to create 150,000 standardized recycling labels to offer to select K-12 schools in the United States. Extending outside Kiehl’s hometown, through “Kiehl’s Gives” initiatives to date, the brand has raised over $2,000,000 for environmental issues worldwide.

To commemorate the philanthropic success of Kiehl’s Limited Edition Label Art series by “Friends of Kiehl’s,” 100% of net proceeds from the fourth Earth Day campaign will benefit Recycle Across America™. “Recycle Across America is the ideal partner for Kiehl’s 2012 Earth Day campaign. Their mission to introduce solutions that make recycling more simple, comprehensive and effective in the United States is perfectly aligned with our Recycle & Be Rewarded program. Since 2009, Kiehl’s has collected 500,000 empty Kiehl’s bottles from our shoppers and recycled them on their behalf, while also rewarding them with free products. It’s proven that by simplifying the process, we can truly create change,” said Chris Salgardo, President, Kiehl’s USA.

The Limited Edition Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque series features Earth-inspired designs by socially conscious influencers, depicting their vision of social responsibility. 2012 partners include Florence Welch, Mark Ruffalo, Rosario Dawson and Spike Lee. To support the launch, celebrity photographer Timothy White will capture each personality in his unique style.

Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque retails for $23.00 and the Limited Edition Label Art versions will launch April 2012.

Hourglass Gpysy Duo, Urban Decay Naked Palette, 2-3 eyeliners (probably Tarina Tarantino), whatever mascara I was testing at the time, Chanel Dragon Rouge Allure Laque, Guerlain Ginny Lipstick, Cle de Peau #2 Lipgloss, Benefit Sugarbomb, Korres Natural Blush, Guerlain Parure de Nuit, Guerlain Parure Gold Foundation, and Guerlain Les Voilettes Mineral Powder. I typically take MAC’s travel-sized cleanser with me and whatever moisturizer I’m testing.

Revlon Cotton Candy ColorBurst Lip Butter

Revlon Cotton Candy ColorBurst Lip Butter ($7.49 for 0.09 oz.) is soft, light-medium pink with subtle cool undertones and golden shimmer. The golden shimmer warms it up, which minimizes the cool tones of the blue-based pink base. Chanel Charme has a similar pink color but doesn’t have the golden shimmer. Guerlain Rose Innocent is a bit lighter, more opaque, and doesn’t have any gold shimmer. MAC Fabby has more mauve in its base color. MAC Behave Yourself has a similar base color, perhaps a little more lilac.

This color is semi-sheer with the color giving lips a slightly pink tint with a healthy dose of golden shimmer and sheen. This is the kind of coverage I would expect based on how Revlon described the Lip Butter formula. The consistency is creamy with a fair amount of slip, so it glides onto lips easily but will move around a bit–with a lighter shade like this, you may see lines if you press your lips together. It also contributes to a shorter wear time of under two hours. It is a more moisturizing formula, and it is nicely hydrating for a lipstick formula–it just doesn’t replace lip balm!

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics (OCC) Chlorophyll Nail Lacquer

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics (OCC) Chlorophyll Nail Lacquer ($8.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “vibrant teal/green” that is opaque and has a satin finish. It’s being repromoted with OCC’s spring/summer Garden collection, but it has already been part of the permanent range for some time. It’s a really green-teal with a finish that looks like a cream to me. MAC Ocean Dip is much more of a blue-teal. Essie Turquoise & Caicos is closer but lighter.  There was nothing that I could think of that came close enough to this to even be considered similar, let alone a dupe.

Chlorophyll was opaque in two coats, though it was almost opaque in one for me.  It has a balanced consistency–not too thick or too thin–that allowed for even, streak-free application without bubbling or pooling.  OCC’s formula wears a week on me with minor tip wear and no chipping.  Of the shades launching for their upcoming collection, Chlorophyll was one of my favorites.
