MAC Marcel Wanders 2: Lipglosses

MAC Marcel Wanders 2: Lipglosses

There are four limited edition MAC Lipglosses ($22.50 for 0.15 oz.) in the new Marcel Wanders 2 Collection: Jana (creamy beige with gold pearl), Julia (light blue-pink with pearl), Karin (pink-mauve with pearl), and Kim (dirty plum with pearl). These lipglosses are designed to be “super sheer.”

  • Jana is a sheer pale, golden beige shimmered gloss that yields very little color (possibly, a touch of warmth) and mostly a healthy dose of shimmer. There are a lot of possible dupes. Honestly–the sheer lipgloss gallery is full of them. MAC Mary (from Marcel Wanders 1) is more golden.
  • Julia is a barely-there pink with pink and pale beige-gold shimmer. I have no idea how MAC got “blue-pink” out of this at all, because it’s not really cool-toned and there’s no blue undertones that I can spy. This shade has less shimmer compared to Jana. It looks a bit like MAC Beatrix on (from Marcel Wanders 1).
  • Karin is a plum-mauve with plum and pale pink shimmer. It has a healthy dose of shimmer, but I had some issues getting the shimmer to spread out evenly. MAC Comfort & Joy is rather similar but has more shimmer (less sparkle).
  • Kim is a softened red-berry with soft pink shimmer. It settles a bit into lip lines. The color coverage is semi-sheer here–this is the most pigmented of the four. Bobbi Brown Naked Plum is redder. Dior Mauve Accent is less shimmered. MAC Spanking Rich is similar with less shimmer.

The formula is cushion-y and thick without being goopy. They feel non-sticky when you apply them, so they do move a bit, but it doesn’t seem to gather or crease. Like other MAC lip products, these are vanilla-scented but don’t have any discernible taste. The formula is most comparable to the existing Cremesheen Glass but thicker (not in a bad way). Each tube has a “chrome” cap and a brush-type applicator. On me, these only wear about two hours and definitely need a reapplication after three. I don’t have any issues with my lips feeling dry post-wear, though.

The amount you get in these glosses is comparable to both Dazzleglass and Cremesheen Glass (and the overall style of the tube is also similar to these two glosses), which come in at $19 at present, so the price difference isn’t as startling as it is on the lipsticks.

MAC Marcel Wanders 2: Lipsticks

MAC Marcel Wanders 2: Lipsticks

There are four limited edition MAC Lipsticks ($22.50 for 0.15 oz.) in the new Marcel Wanders 2 Collection: Annelie (soft peachy beige with pearl), Annemiek (soft neutral pink with pearl), Felicienne (dirty mauve with pearl), and Inez (plum with gold pearl). These are specially packaged in “chrome” so they come at a higher price point than regular MAC lipsticks.

  • Annelie is a metallic gilded beige with a frost-metallic finish. The color coverage is semi-opaque’ it’s sheer in places but opaque when the light hits it because the reflective quality is so high. MAC Quietly Please is darker, less opaque. MAC Gel is much more golden. MAC Tanarama is darker, yellower. MAC Bechbound is more golden. Benefit Fame Game comes the closest but is less metallic.
  • Annemiek is a light-medium pink with a frost-metallic sheen. The color coverage is semi-opaque, but this shade doesn’t apply as evenly as I’d like it to. Chanel Candeur is similar in color but less metallic. Guerlain Rouge Innocent is darker and less metallic.
  • Felicienne is a muted pink with a hint of mauve and a bright silver metallic finish. The color coverage is semi-opaque. MAC Lazy Day reminded me of this shade, but due to the metallic finish, they are pretty different. MAC Win-Win is similar but sheerer. MAC Whirls & Twirls is similar but a touch pinker.
  • Inez is a berry-plum with gold shimmer and a frosted finish. The color coverage is semi-opaque. MAC Aristo-cat is similar but less purple. MAC Plum Bright doesn’t have the shimmer and is much more intense. MAC Courting Lilac has a much lighter base.

All four shades have a frost finish, but these tended to run more metallic-frost than regular frost.  The frost was a little finer, and the sheen was more reflective akin to metal.  These are a very specific look to be sure, so it may not work for everyone.  Because of the high frost finish, these do not apply as evenly as other lipsticks, and while they seem soft to the touch, they do not glide over lips effortlessly.  I tested Annelie and Inez for wear, I was able to get to three hours or so, but both shades felt drying.  Not terribly so but left my lips noticeably dehydrated after wearing each for four hours.

These are vanilla-scented like other MAC lipsticks, but the fancy packaging did include an increase in product size: normal MAC lipsticks only contain 0.10 oz. while these contain 0.15 oz., which is 50% more. ¬†(Funny how percentages work–50% sounds like so much more than 0.05 oz. more!) ¬†The packaging is a magnet for fingerprints, and it felt a bit cheap in my hands. ¬†It’s very lightweight, so it lacks the heft of true metal packaging, but even though it is lightweight, the lipstick itself is fairly bulky.

MAC Too Supreme: Zen Rose Sheen Supreme Lipstick

MAC Too Supreme is repromoting thirteen shades of Supreme Sheen Lipsticks ($14.50 each for 0.12 oz.). There are twenty-one shades currently available and that are part of the permanent range. All except Zen Rose, which is described officially as a “bright mid-tone fuchsia.” For the other shades being repromoted in this collection, check out the Sheen Supreme Lipstick tag for previous reviews. ¬†I will review the new glosses tomorrow as I’m still testing out the wear.

Zen Rose is a brightened, medium-dark fuchsia-pink with semi-opaque color coverage (you can just see my lip freckle peeking through). It has a creamy finish but doesn’t settle into lip lines, which is absolutely fantastic. Shades like MAC Quick Sizzle and MAC Pink Pigeon are similar but are noticeably brighter and look more intense when worn. MAC Love Forever is purpler. MAC Show Orchid is irridescent and brighter. MAC Rare Exotic is pinker. MAC Something New is just slightly pinker. NARS Schiap is a smidgen brighter.

Overall, I like but don’t love the formula. The way I feel about it largely depends on the shade, so in the case of Zen Rose, I really do like both the formula and the shade. It’s creamy and slick enough that it glides onto lips with ease but doesn’t slip and slide when worn. The wear is good, too, coming in at four hours (and for something with as much “wetness” as Sheen Supreme, that’s pretty good). I do not find the formula particular hydrating, though it is not drying.
