Bobbi Brown Midnight Violet High Shimmer Lipgloss

Bobbi Brown Midnight Violet High Shimmer Lipgloss
Bobbi Brown Midnight Violet High Shimmer Lipgloss

Bobbi Brown Midnight Violet High Shimmer Lipgloss ($23.00 for 0.24 fl. oz.) is described as a “black orchid with pearl.” It’s a dark brown-red with burgundy, copper, and violet shimmer. MAC Lasting Achievement is redder, more burgundy. MAC Lap of Luxury is more plum. MAC Black Tea is browner, lighter. NYX Vixen is very close, though a little more metallic. MAC RIchly Revered is less brown and doesn’t have shimmer. Illamasqua Hermetic is more metallic, more opaque, and a little browner.

This applies much better than Plum Gold, which is a color I totally love, but it doesn’t apply as evenly. For such a dark gloss that’s not opaque, it really does apply rather evenly. It has semi-opaque color–there’s still some translucency where my natural lip color peeks through, but it adds significant color to my lips. This is a gloss range that seems to go anywhere from ultra sheer to more opaque, and Midnight Violet is on the more opaque end of the spectrum.

What makes this gloss a standout for me is the high shimmer aspect; it’s ultra glossy but so sparkling, dazzling, and gorgeous on. I love that you don’t feel the shimmer; it never feels gritty, and it doesn’t travel while you wear it. The formula is lightweight, moisturizing, and wears well–this particular shade stayed on for five hours. Like other Bobbi Brown glosses, the High Shimmer Lipglosses are scented with mint but have no taste. They’re also non-sticky and come with a tapered doe-foot applicator.

Beautiful Beginnings with Chanel

Beautiful Beginnings with Chanel

What was the first Chanel product you ever tried?  Did it pave way for a real romance or did it put you off the brand entirely?  What was the first Chanel product you purchased?  Did you love it? Hate it? Still own it?

my answer:  The very first Chanel products I ever tried and purchased were their Glossimers.  It took me many, many wears before I got the appeal of Glossimers, but eventually I did.  Chanel and I have a hit and miss relationship; sometimes I’m really unimpressed and other times I’m really in love.

Share your first time experiences with Chanel in the comments! 🙂

NARS Kutki Nail Lacquer

Thakoon for NARS will debut on May 1st at NARS’ website, and the collection features six shades.   NARS Kutki Nail Lacquer ($18.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “powder blue.” It’s a pale, pastel sky blue–a little more muted than the perfect sky blue, I’d say–it does have a powdery/dusty quality to it. Nubar Blue Hydrangea is a richer blue, less white in its base. Chanel Riva is very similar in color, but it is more translucent and has shimmer.

Kutki is mostly opaque after two coats, but it is streaky, and even after two coats, it’s still noticeable in places, so I would recommend a third coat or ensuring your second coat was on the thicker side.  For me, it was one of the worst performers in the six-shade collection.  The consistency was just a smidgen on the thicker side, but I wouldn’t describe as thick.  It flowed easily across the nail and didn’t pool–just streaked.  The drying time was about average.  NARS nail polishes typically last a week on my nails with minor tip wear but no chipping.
