NYX Apple Crisp Intense Butter Gloss
NYX Apple Crisp Intense Butter Gloss ($5.99 for 0.27 fl. oz.) is a bold, bright, medium red with cool, blue undertones and a creamy, glossy finish. It had rich, opaque color coverage that applied smoothly and evenly without pulling into lip lines. The consistency wasn’t too thick or too thin, but it is heavier than the original formula of Butter Glosses. It developes light tackiness over time and lasts four hours on me. It was neither drying nor hydrating over time. There is a faint smell of vanilla but no discernible taste, but the scent seemed off in some way to me. MAC Victoriana (LE, $15.00) is lighter. MAC Opera (LE, $15.00) is similar. MAC Ruby Woo (LE, $15.00) is similar. Guerlain Rouge Parade (920) (LE, $30.00) is more muted. MAC RiRi Woo (LE, $15.00) is similar. MAC Driven by Love (P, $19.50) MAC Russian Red (P, $15.00) is darker. Get comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
NYX Banana Split Intense Butter Gloss ($5.99 for 0.27 fl. oz.) is a brightened, light-medium peach-orange with warm undertones and a creamy, high-shine finish. While it had nearly full color coverage, the thicker consistency seemed to make very prone to settling into lip lines from the get-go. Even when I would try to smooth out the color, the color would sink right back into those lip lines. The gloss lasted for four hours, and the settling just worsened as I wore it. MAC Grand Pumpkin (LE, $15.00) is sheerer, darker. MAC Live It Up (LE, $15.00) is lighter. Marc Jacobs Beauty Gypsy (204) (P, $28.00) is darker. Get comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
NYX Berry Strudel Intense Butter Gloss ($5.99 for 0.27 fl. oz.) is a brightened, violet purple with a hint of pink and fairly cool undertones. It had a creamy, glossy finish. The texture was thinner, so it felt more like the original formula, but it was prone to streaking. It was really hard to get the color to look even, and as it wore away, it settled into lip lines. The gloss wore well for four hours on me. It’s a cool color, and it is hard to dupe, so it might be worth the extra effort to make it work if you really have been wanting a purple lipgloss. NYX Violet (P, $6.00) is lighter and a lipstick, so it isn’t as glossy. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Rollergirl (P, $18.00) is lighter and a lipstick, and again, lacks that glossy finish. Illamasqua Fierce (P, $22.00) is lighter. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Belladonna (DC, $18.00) is darker, cooler-toned. Get comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

Maybe I could make Banana Split and Berry Strudel work if I apply Mac lip prep and prime beforehand, these are just too beautiful to ignore 😉
Maybe! Or a lip liner.
Christine you forgot to add the right names to the reviews! Nevertheless, they look really good and very pigmented for lip glosses but I hate tackiness on my lips so I think I’ll pass on these.
Sorry, fixed!
You accidentally named them all Apple Crisp in the description! They’re all beautiful colors. It’s a shame Banana Split and Berry Strudel didn’t perform as well. Apple Crisp is my favorite!
Fixed! Sorry – such a dummy.
Banana split is so cool!
It’s an interesting color!
Christine, I think there’s a labeling issue – all three seemed to be called Apple Crisp?
I skipped out on Banana Split and Sorbet, the two colors that seemed to have issues with them. I didn’t know Berry Strudel had the same problems! I might just pick it up because, well – purple! Any suggestions as to how to get it to work better?
Fixed! Sorry!
You could try a lip liner.
Banana Split looked promising but turns out it’s not what I had hoped it would be. The color just looks off.
I wish it applied better!
Apple Crisp is totally stunning, but I already have MAC Opera, so I’m good. I think I’m going to grab Berry Strudel, such a fun color and only $ 6! I have Spice Cake, and it is an awesome shade.
Berry Strudel is a fun shade!
This formula look really nice, I hope my Rexall expands to include these.
Fingers crossed! 🙂
Wow, Berry Strudel is a neat color! It actually looks like it might be more wearable than a lot of similar purples.
(Also FYI, all three colors are currently labeled “Apple Crisp” in the text portion of the review!)
Fixed, sorry again!
Banana split looks great on u all of them look good on u
Thanks, Nat!
I really like Apple Crisp as an affordable red lip gloss option since I almost always wear my reds matte. But during these super dry AZ spring into summer months it would be nice having something for those times when a bit of gloss on top would certainly be welcome!
I was happy to see a blue-based red!
I love Berry Strudel. It was the first shade I bought. I think I need Apple Crisp in my life. Banana Split looks better than I thought it would, but it’s too yellow.
Nice! 🙂
Banana Split is such a fun color, but the application just looks odd! Like it’s not really attached to your lips (if that makes sense? it’s just strange). I do think this is a cool line in general and would love to see these in stock near me! It’s so hard to make myself put in the order at Ulta for NYX products because I know I either have to order a ton or *gasp!* pay for shipping!
I totally get what you mean, Katie!
Can you apply these sheer? I think Berry Strudel would be cool to layer over black or purple lipsticks.
They’re pretty hard to apply sheer, IMO!
Maybelline’s Vision in Violet Color Elixir seems super similar to Berry Strudel. I have that one and love it a lot! It applies more evenly than Berry Strudel, staying power is great and it doesn’t settle into lip lines (which is a problem I perpetually have to deal with – lip products settling into my lip lines!) Definitely recommend checking that out if you like a better, more low maintenance version of Berry Strudel.
Thanks for the tip!
Oh, these are some intense glosses. And Berry Strudel is pretty unique. I know it is a year of Marsala color, but I feel drawn to lavender shades for some reason lately.
There seems to be a lot of lavender this year, though!
Is the Berry Strudel similar to Too Faced Melted Violet at all? Seems pretty close…
Nope, not at all to me at least! http://www.temptalia.com/submit-dupe?sbs=1&pid=163981&dupe=192268
Whoa! You’re right lol. Consider me colorblind 😉
I’m sorry Berry Strudel didn’t work out for you! I don’t have many lines on my lips so I didn’t have the problem with the product settling into creases, but that’s just me. If anyone is looking for a ridiculously intense bright purple, layering it over NYX High Voltage Lipstick in Twisted is the way to go.
After seeing these swatches, I think I’m going to go back and get Apple Crisp as well!
Happy to hear you’re loving yours, Gabrielle!
I’m not a bold lipstick person, but APPLE CRISP is gorgeous! It just totally really surprised me.
It is pretty!
I really like Apple Crisp!
Yay!
More purpely lip products, I like!
These looks fun, pity they didn’t perform all that well.
Always room for more purples!
The Streudel is really awesome. I wish these all worked like the first!
*Strudel..sorry
I wish!!
Question! What is the average shelf life of lip gloss?
I believe most glosses list 6 months to a year.
Maybe zit’s because Im pushing 40 in a couple months, but these colors do not do anything for me. I just don’t understand all the hype! The red is pretty, but the purple and orange? No thanks…
Just different strokes for different folks 🙂 Some people hate red!
I love Banana Split! But I own Grand Pumpkin. I just love the name and the colour & it looks vibrant! 😀 The rating isn’t great though… But for a few bucks, maybe that’s alright.
If you want an even GRANDER version of Grand Pumpkin… maybe this would do it 😉
LOL! 😛
Oooo surprisingly (to me) I like Banana Split. I may pick it up to use to warm up and lighten other colors. The pigmentation on these is awesome.
Hope it works for you, Diana!
Apple Crisp and Banana Split are nice 😀 I don’t think they settle that much into lip lines :/ I’ve seen way worse from other brands (like mac, lol). Idk how often I’d wear orange but since it.s summer….:D who knows, maybe I’ll get it. I’ll def get Chocolate Crepe and Tres Leches.
It could be worse for sure!
Indeed :))
Christine, just letting you know that the review portion for Apple Crisp on the product page contains the review and dupe list for Berry Strudel instead.
Fixed!
