Marc Jacobs Oui! (118) Enamored Hi-Shine Lacquer Review, Photos, Swatches

Marc Jacobs Oui! (118) Enamored Hi-Shine Lacquer
Marc Jacobs Oui! (118) Enamored Hi-Shine Lacquer

Marc Jacobs Oui! (118) Enamored Hi-Shine Lacquer ($18.00 for 0.43 fl. oz.) is a metallic, fuchsia-magenta pink with cool undertones. Illamasqua Stance and Illamasqua Obsess are both similar in color but have cream finishes. China Glaze Senorita Bonita is purpler, less shimmery. Deborah Lippmann Makin’ Whoopee is more fuchsia–brighter. See comparison swatches.

Launching August 9th exclusively at Sephora (looks like midnight PST for online; some local stores are opening an hour early for the launch so you can check with your local store for times), Marc Jacobs’ Enamored Hi-Shine Lacquer will be available in 24 shades, and the major selling point of the polish is the high-shine finish. It comes in a flat, glass bottle with a glossy black cap that gets removed and reveals a ridged, rounded interior cap (like Chanel and Dior polishes). I’ve been wearing and testing Oui! in anticipation of the launch. Hopefully, I’ll be able to try and share more shades with you once the full line launches.

The consistency wasn’t too thick or too thin, and it didn’t bubble, pool, or streak when I applied it to the nail. It was very nearly opaque after two coats–there is very slight visible nail line apparent if a lot of light is coming through underneath the nail in close-ups, but I couldn’t see it in person. The finish is quite metallic, and there are somewhat visible brush strokes, which may or may not bother you. They applied fairy straight and are fine threads, so from afar, they didn’t stand out, but those super sensitive to them might want to try a cream finish instead. It dried down slightly faster than average, and the resulting finish was naturally shiny. I wore this shade, and it lasted well with minor tip wear but no chipping for seven days, and I was able to keep it going for as long as ten days with more noticeable tip wear but still no chipping.

lol! Well, it’s all permanent, so there is that.

When I went to the MJB section on Sephora’s website, it showed 13 hours, which would be midnight my time (PST). Would make sense since Sephora usually does their midnight launches on PST!

It’s just a bottle to me 🙂 I don’t have any preference on polish bottles as long as they’re functional, as I store them in opaque drawers so I don’t see them! For whatever reason, nail polish packaging tends not to inspire a lot feelings, LOL!

The only downside I can see to the bottle (from personal experience), is that it’s wider than it is tall, so as you use the polish, you will have to angle the bottle to get polish out sooner with this design than taller or more sloped-base bottles, if that makes sense. The overcap clicks on and off really easily, and the brush cap functions so that you can feel when it’s closed completely. Very stable base, and a great brush (one of my favorites).

I found this dried with no brushstrokes and was opaque at 2 thin coats (a 3rd added depth). The color is much more glowing than shown and with a bit more depth (no insult meant – it’s hard to capture colors/finishes perfectly) – it’s like a more pink version of Nubar in Pasadena Purple, which is one of my favorite polishes. You can find my swatch of Oui! on my profile!

I just don’t see what all of the fuss surrounding this launch is. I was in Sephora earlier this week and the sales people were so excited, which I’m happy for them, but I don’t see how Marc Jacobs’ background lends itself to beauty products other than it’s another place to create revenue. I mean, he’s not Nars, he was never a make-up artist. I hate to be cynical and maybe I’ll be proven wrong but I don’t see anything remarkable out of this line that’s not done many times over by other brands and in most cases it looks like other brands are doing it better.

Why is there excitement over any new brand? Because it’s more makeup! And Marc isn’t just any random designer, he’s a designer that’s unafraid to take risks, one who’s very involved in his brand, and probably one of the top 20 designers of this century. I don’t really know how you can say it looks like other brands are doing it better, given the mostly favorable reviews, and the limited amount of product we’ve seen reviewed so far. But we’ll all have a chance to check it out for ourselves tomorrow. Personally, I’m very excited by this launch.

Hi Jennifer – I definitely didn’t mean to quell your enthusiasm, and as a fellow makeup lover with multiple overflowing drawers of makeup I share your excitement for new launches. However, I’m just not impressed by his move into cosmetics. I love his bags and own a few, and I covet much of his clothing but I do believe there are other beauty lines that are already treading on this ground and yes more successfully.

Very pretty, but we get no Marc Jacobs makeup in my country, no China Glaze, Deborah Lippmann or Illamasqua here either so will have to find another dupe.
