MAC Mickey Contractor: Lipsticks

MAC Lipstick ($14.50 for 0.10 oz.) has three new and one permanent shade launching with MAC’s Mickey Contractor. These include: Gulabi (bright fuchsia), Mehr (dirty blue pink), Mocha (peachy yellow brown), and Yash (deep neutral).  These lipsticks are vanilla-scented.  All four of these happen to be opaque and creamy without being drying at all, despite some of the matte finishes seen here.

  • Gulabi is a medium-dark fuchsia pink with subtle blue undertones. It has an amplified finish and goes on opaque. It’s incredibly similar to Girl About Town — I can’t really make any differences out; possibly this is lighter.
  • Mehr is a neutral pink and applies opaquely. It has a matte finish, but it is incredibly creamy and not at all drying (it’s nothing like Ruby Woo, one of the driest lipsticks of all time). It feels much more like a satin or amplified finish, actually. It seems similar to Cosmo, which I think I have, and will include in the comparison post (possibly this is pinker). I’ll have to check to see if I have them in my stash, but Brave and Twig may also be comparable to this. For me, it’s very much my-lips-but-better (if you want my lip color, this sure gets you close, ha).
  • Mocha is a medium-dark peachy brown. It has a satin finish, so it has a creamy consistency with opaque color coverage. This is a permanent shade.
  • Yash is a paled, neutral peachy beige. It has a matte finish. Like Mehr, this is not a drying matte finish at all; it’s creamy and opaque. It’s a touch peachier than Peachstock.

P.S. — On eyes, I am wearing Jaan eyeshadow on the lid, Vivah eyeshadow on the outer lid/crease, Folie in the crease, Burberry Trench to highlight, Ivy fluidline on upper lash line, Urban Decay Perversion on lower water line, Jaan eyeshadow on lower lash line. On cheeks, I am wearing Sur Blush.

MAC Mickey Contractor will be available on January 6th at select North American stores and January 2011 for select international stores. It will be available online on approximately January 4th but may not be available until the 6th.

  • Product: 29/30
  • Value: 8/10
  • Ease of Use: 4/5
  • Packaging: 4/5

FINAL THOUGHTS: I love the consistency, texture, and color pay off of all four shades–they really are lovely. They are, however, very dupeable, so depending on what your MAC stash looks like, you may not find yourself with anything new to look at here.

I have been trying to make Brave work for so long, but it’s just sooo dry and icky looking on me. I think I’m going to give Mehr a go! THANK YOU!

Lizz M. Avatar

All these shades are to die for, especially the three nudes, but I think Mehr is going on my list immediately….

Oh, but the more I look at Yash, the more I want to splurge, ha!

Valerie Avatar

I bought Gulabi, Mehr and Mocha. I am thrilled that MAC is allowing people to use a PRO discount on this line!! I hate it when they don’t allow the PRO discount on special lines, and I won’t buy MAC products without my discount.

Kat Avatar

I was hoping to skip this collection but these lipsticks are seriously giving my willpower a run for its money.

Thanks for mentioning the dupes, I’ll wait for your comparison post before I make any final decisions.

Deb Avatar

Ooh, I am loving Mehr and Yash! I don’t know if I can pull Yash off as I have very pale, cool-leaning skin, but I think I will get Mehr! I could use a new neutral pink!

Pam Avatar

Thanks for the review. I really like Mehr! Not sure if it almost looks like Faux lipstick. I used to have that one and when i saw your swatch, i thought that maybe it looked almost similar? Either way, i still plan to get this 🙂

All 4 of these colors are just beautiful! I love the eye look you put together here and will definitely be copying it (as I often do!lol). Cant wait for this collection to launch, its one of the prettiest I have seen to date!

Marcela Avatar

Gulabi and Mehr are so pretty! I think i’ll be picking up Mehr… it reminds me of my fave lipstick (Plumful) but with a matta finish (which i’m kinda scared of).

Christina Avatar

Like everyone else here hahaha I love Mehr! It looks really similar to a Viva Glam (VI I think?) with Fergie. That’s my MBB shade and I didn’t stock up on enough before it disappeared. This might be my replacement, if you have the Viva Glam, could you do a comparison swatch? THANK YOU!

Mehr is so nice. I like gulabi but I can get Girl About Town at any time if it is that similar, plus I have Show Orchid and Full Fushia so some similar shades already.

Patty Avatar

“if you want my lip color, this sure gets you close, ha”

I got a nice laugh out of this one.

As far as the lippies go, I love Gulabi probably because Girl About Town might be my favorite lipstick right now. Yash and Mehr look like they would be really fun nudes to rock, but Mocha might look kind of funky on my really pale skin. LOVE how pigmented and smooth they all seem to be!

Nadine Avatar

How does Mehr compare to Pink Plaid, colour- and texturewise? I just got it recently, it’s my first matte MAC l/s and I find it kind of dry on my lips. I’d like to get Mehr, but if it’s the same texture as Pink Plaid, I’d pass.

Carrie Ann Avatar

Mehr is really pretty. Mocha is permanent, so I can skip that. Yash is also nice, but looks a lot like lipsticks I already have. I’m glad there aren’t many things I want from this collection. MAC is driving me a little nuts with all of these new, limited edition colors/products.

Altea Avatar

I was wondering how similar Gulabi is to Full Fuchsia.
They look pretty close in your pictures, Gulabi being maybe a bit more blue?
I’m especially curious about the difference in pigmentation…Full Fuchsia is very pigmented and very long-lasting on me, but it bleeds a lot leaving a pinky stain on my chin if I can’t use a proper remover for touch-ups..

Gulabi was on my list when I saw the promo pics that were published, but seeing a swatch of it here has turned me off….way too bright for me 🙁 no lipstick has me drooling yet…really sad as I was looking forward to this..

I bought Mehr and I bought the Flesh lipglass but I wanted Yash to be a lot darker than it was and I’m sorry that it isn’t so I left it alone. I left Gulabi alone too because I just bought Girl About Town and yeah they do look the same.

Most of the Mickey Contractor line looked great and yeah I finally bought a Feline Kohl Power pencil from the Cham Pale range YAY!!!

ak Avatar

I bought a back up of Mehr and one of the Feline Kohl Power pencils just in case. I’m an NC45 and Mehr is one of the prettiest easy to wear pink lipsticks that has ever been made!

lia Avatar

so glad you said this! There isn’t a pro store near me, so I just placed my order over the phone and I’ve been going back and forth about whether getting Mehr was the right choice… It looks great on Christine, but I hope it looks good on my NC45 skin too!

Hi C!

Was wondering whether to get Yash (definitely getting Mehr – which is also the name of my friend haha!). I have so many neutral lippies. I don’t own freckletone nor Peachstock but was wondering if you knew if these other ones come close to Yash:

Creme d’ Nude
Innocence Beware
Marquise D
The Faerie Glen
Warm Me Up

Those are the ones I currently have and if Yash is close to any of those then I won’t get it. Thank you so much for your input!

Hi Christine! How would you compare Mehr to viva glam vi special edition. I’m really tempted to buy it on e-bay because I missed out on it but I’d much prefer buy in-store if Mehr is similar. Thanks so much!

Amrita Avatar

Christine, I was wondering, how would Yash compare to Velvet Teddy? Cause I have Velvet Teddy, and I want Yash 😛 But there’s no sense in getting Yash, if they’re both quite similar.

Ingrid Avatar

I got both Mehr and Yash and I like them a lot!
I have Honeylove side by side with Yash. What I can tell is that Honeylove definitely has more pink into it than Yash. Yash is certainly more neutral, and thus true to the website description. And at the same time Yash is not as close to yellow on me as Peachstock, thank God! 🙂
Thanks a lot, Christine!

Lidalgirl Avatar

ok, i can definitely say that Mehr is 95% similar to Brave -a bit less intense, in my opinion-. Faux is lighter and rosier than Mehr.
Gulabi, instead, looks pretty different on me than Girl About Town: slightly warmer (it reminds me OCC Pageant, but non as shiny) and lighter. on my NW10 skin looks much better than Girl About Town, which I can’t pull off.
hope it’ll help someone 😉

I really don’t want tosay this but here goes: The Mickey Contractor line will probably be THE best collection that MAC will come up with for the whole of this year. I might as well also add that it has been one of the best in easy, yet interesting wearability that I have seen from MAC or anywhere in quite a long while.

What is the shelf life of a lipstick? And what do you do when a not yet 2 year old lipstick starts to smell bad (lose its vanilla scent)? Toss it? Or is there a way to salvage it? My fav mocha has started to smell!
