Kat Von D The Saint Everlasting Flash Lip Set ($38.00 for 0.29 oz.) is a limited edition set that was available for 48 hours. Now, normally the Everlasting sets seem to be a way to preview shades that will be released in full later on, but per the brand’s Facebook, they stated it was “an exclusive shade that won’t be available after the flash sale is over.” It seems bizarre, since the set was to celebrate the relaunch of the brand’s Saint and Sinner fragrances, and it would seem fitting to have coordinating liquid lipsticks. I thought it was going to come back, so I tested it as soon as my order arrived, but I guess this post just serves to provide dupes…

The set also came with samples of Saint and Sinner fragrances, but I’ve excluded them from the set for review purposes (fragrance doesn’t get rated on a rubric like lip colors are!).

Saint (Everlasting Liquid Lipstick) is a brighter, medium pink with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had opaque color coverage in a single layer, which applied evenly but a bit of product pulled into my lip lines as it was drying down. I suspect the runnier quality of the formula made it more prone to pooling in my lines, and it did seem to take longer to dry down than the average shade in this formula. It lasted for seven hours and was non-drying.

It is supposed to be a “long-wear, full coverage liquid lipstick with a smooth, matte finish.” Of the liquid lipsticks on the market that go and have a full dry-down, Kat Von D’s formula remains my favorite, as it is the easiest to apply with the kindest learning curve and lasts awhile.

Some shades are more drying than others, but typically they don’t get drying until after five to six hours of wear. They often wear anywhere from six to ten hours, depending on what you’ve had to eat or drink during the day. This formula is thin but not watery, has a longer dry down than most liquid lipsticks (but I noticed some of the newer shades dried to a mostly dry finish faster), and layers better than most (you can touch-up or add a second layer for more coverage).

It takes about a minute for it to mostly set, but it will remain a little tacky in places for up to three minutes so you’ll want to avoid pressing your lips together if it doesn’t seem totally dry initially. There isn’t a noticeable scent or taste. If you don’t mind the trade-off between very long, near-pristine wear and being drying, it’s worth checking out. As a bonus, these also come with one of the most generous amounts of products within the realm of liquid lipsticks!

Saint (Everlasting Lip Liner) is a medium pink with warm, yellow undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was creamy and smooth, and despite being a twist-up liner, it was pretty comfortable to apply all over the lips as well as getting sharp edges for just lining along the lips (rather than filling in). The liner seemed to be warmer and not as bright compared to the liquid lipstick. It did emphasize imperfections on my lips a bit, but it went on quite evenly and lasted for five hours. I noticed that it seemed to shorten the wear of the liquid lipstick when I wore it under–instead of seven hours it was noticeably more faded after six hours of wear. Oh, and no, it was nowhere close to the 24-hour wear promised by this formula.

The Everlasting Lip Liner is supposed to have “24-hour wear” with “water-resistant wear and weightless color” that has the “ultimate pigmentation.” It was created to be paired with Kat Von D’s liquid and regular lipstick ranges but also “worn on its own.” The formula has been fairly creamy, which made it easy to line the edges of my lips, but the skinnier pencil made it less practical for really filling in the lips.

I also felt like that, while creamy, some shades still skipped when I attempted to fill in my lips. The texture was more of a soft matte initially, which enabled me to press my lips together and even out some of the product before it fully dried down. It was water-resistant, and I had no trouble drinking water or coffee, but I’ve yet to try one that actually made it through a meal particularly well–they all wore substantially away from the center of the lips and turn patchy by the end of a meal. The Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks tend to wear longer on me, actually. The formula was neither drying nor hydrating. Some were more wearable (in terms of evenness) on their own than others.
